    Nice video explaining most of the compatibility related things to consider, but I would like to point out to also pay attention to CPU bottleneck, as I feel like it is a very underrated topic in general on RUclips and elsewhere. I am writing from my personal recent experience here. Recently an AMD Radeon R9 280X graphics card (stock - never overclocked) died in my personal Gaming PC build from 2014. I am still running Intel Core i5-4670K processor (stock - never overclocked - only running OC Genie on the MSI Z87-G43 ATX Motherboard for the last couple of days, which is a very mild overclock for the CPU and RAM 16GB DDR3 1600MHz), as I didn't feel the need to upgrade over the last couple of years. I would like to build a new gaming PC soon, but I am currently waiting for the big AMD Navi graphics cards to be released. Anywho, I digress. So, what happened is I have researched the current new AMD graphics card market pretty extensively and researched the "bottleneck" term and other compatibility problems related to CPU and GPU working together. I did all of this before purchasing a new graphics card that would replace my old and dead AMD Radeon R9 280X graphics card. So, in the end, after a lot of comparing and stuff, I decided to go for AMD Radeon RX 590 graphics card, as the value for money is very good in my opinion when looking at the current new market where I live (UK), and then the problems continued... Once I installed the new AMD Radeon RX 590 graphics card into my current gaming PC and launched Battlefield V (which is my main favourite game for the past few months), I started experiencing severe stuttering (unplayable for me), random crashes, freezing in game, etc. So, I monitored the CPU and GPU usage, and both were near the 100% mark, for the GPU 100% usage is good, but for CPU 100% usage is not so good as it means CPU bottleneck, which I feel is the reason for the bad experience that I am having with the new graphics card. So, in conclusion, do not purchase a graphics card that is more powerful than your CPU. I think that most RUclipsrs and other Tech people do not really mention this problem and assume that everyone is or should be using very powerful CPUs. I just felt that I should share my experience with you guys so that you can avoid this hassle. I am going to be returning the graphics card and purchasing a different one, one that is more suitable for my current CPU. I am thinking about getting AMD Radeon RX 570 graphics card from the used marked, as I found very nice deals on Ebay.co.uk for manufacturer refurbished model and therefore it is very good value for money and nice performance for what it is. Finally, remember to take your desired monitor resolution and refresh rate into account guys. I am using 1440p 144Hz. I know that my current gaming PC build is more suited for 1080p, but ohh well, I am going to upgrade soon anyway... maybe... 😂🤣 Amen. Take care and happy gaming folks! 😎😉

    This is insane, thank you so much, clearified a lot. I am so worries, I would like to upgrade my PC but as its components are very old I have no idea if it will cause some kind of chain-reaction if I were to upgrade my GPU for example, then maybe the motherboard would not support it and I would have to buy a new motherboard, and maybe then my old CPU would not fit this new modern motherboard so I would have to buy a new CPU as well and so on... and it would be superexpensive and confusion all over. But thank you so much, now I have something to go on and I will try to figure this mess out ^^
    Cheers and good video!

    Very good guide. I don't buy pre-built PC available in stores as these are running minimal specs for max amount of your hard earn money and are problem makers when it comes to upgrading. The exception to that is probably Alienware (but you need s*** load of $$$). Advice if you want one. Don't buy PC at stores (these are crap). Find small PC store and let the guys (IT students) build one for you:) You won't regret it and you have yourself a true magic box running for years to come. Mine was built 8 yrs ago and every upgrade I did so far is issue free (SSD, video card, sound card, memory, etc.)

    I wonder if you could help me out! I really hope you see this comment. So recently I bought the MSI GeForce GTX 1050 TI graphics card, and I know nothing about this stuff, and I got a refurbished pc for my birthday, nothing special but apparently it’s got awesome specs but it came with no graphics card. The specs are as follows: intel core i5, 16gb ram, and that’s pretty much all I know lol. So, on the the point, the graphics card was too big for the pc so I had to cut out some of the side to fit it on the motherboard, but when I connect it there is no display (I’m using a TV because the monitor didn’t come with an HDMI port). Is there anyway you can help? Again I have no idea what I’m doing and I don’t know if I need another cord or I installed it wrong, but the bottom line is that it won’t display on the screen when I turn my PC on. Please please please help, thanks.

    I have a MSI h410m-pro as a motherboard and thinking of upgrading my GPU from a 1650 to the new rtx 3050 that's coming out this week, im still not sure if it would work. Would somebody know ?
    This motherboard has PCI-e 3.0 and i saw that the 3050 has 4.0. But i also saw on a website saying its backwards compatible so a 3.0 would work on a 2.0, which would mean a 4.0 works on a 3.0 but im not a tech guy just a regular computer user with basic knowlegde so hence why im asking this. To simplify for everyones instead of watching the whole video a graphics card fits a slot this slot = pci express x 16 slot. Every motherboard designed for gaming will have a pci express x 16 slot.
    If you bought a pc with an amd or nvidia based gpu your motherboard will have atleast one pci express 16 slot.
    There are 3 types of pci express x 16 slots/ gpu teeth which are pci express x 16 [1.0 , 2.0 , 3.0] lower end gpus have a 2.0 pcie slot higher have a 3.0 slot.
    mother board slots are backwards compatible so a 3.0 gpu will work on a 2.0 pcie slot etc. The only negative is a 5 fps decrease using a 2.0 pcie slot on a 3.0 gpu.
    So in short you will never be able to buy an incompatible gpu or motherboard.
    The only thing you then have to worry about is size and whether your gpu will fit in your case so I recommend you get measurements and measure your case to see it fits.
    Check you also have enough vram 4GB 8GB etc

    I'm trying to be very specific here, and possible (if you could check it up) since i've been googling like a madman the past 3days and found nothing, lol.
    I just ordered a new graphics card: Asus GTX 1060 dual OC 6gb.
    My current specs are:
    i5 4440 @3.1ghz
    MSI B85M-E45 (m-atx) motherboard
    550W Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold PSU
    8gb vengeance DDR3 ram @ 666mhz dual-channel.
    My case is a Komplett Gamer i05 case, from 2013/2014. (it's a mid tower, well enough space for the card itself).
    Will this Asus GTX 1060 dual OC 6gb fit on my motherboard? What worries me is if it would touch either the ram-memory holders or the sideway SATA port at the end of the mobo.
    Quick response would be highly appreciated! thanks

    • @GoodsauceTech
      @GoodsauceTech  6 лет назад

      Hi! Judging by the images I have found of that motherboard and my general knowledge of PCs, here's what I can say:
      1. The card shouldn't interfere with the RAM slots. The way graphics cards are built means that it will only take up space below the PCI-E slot on the motherboard and not above it (where the DIMM slots are). That is because the bulk of the graphics card is the cooling system, and that is mounted on the side of your card that is facing the bottom of the case (when mounted). The back is basically flush with the PCI slot.
      2. On the other hand, when it comes to the SATA port, I have to make a sensible guess. I would say that you're most likely in the clear because of the elevation granted not only by the PCI slot on the motherboard itsself, but also by the fact that the card also has some extra clearance from the slot. If you look at an image of the card you'll notice that, above the gold plated contacts, there is almost a whole centimeter of additional space before the cooler starts. Judging by that and by the fact that I have never heard of a GPU interfering in any way with the SATA connectors on a motherboard, I would say that it should work.
      However, the worst case scenario is that it doesn't fit. In that case you should be able to simply return it, get your money back and order a "mini" version (those are usually shorter)

    • @GoodsauceTech
      @GoodsauceTech  6 лет назад +7

      +Junaid Iqbal Nope, GPU memory types don't have to match up with your RAM type. A GDDR5 GPU will have no problem running in a DDR3 Motherboard, for example.
      They're different things that just so happen to have a similar name.

      @Junaid Yes, GPUs have DDR memory. However, your GPU's DDR has *nothing* to do with your motherboard's DDR.
      So when it comes to finding compatible GPUs for your motherboard, this is one issue you don't have to worry about.

      Chozen Mallet there are not such thing as ddr5 GPUs probably you meant gddr5 which is a different thing and the answer is yes it doesn't matter if you are using a DDR3 system as long as it supports and have a pci -e2.0 lane you are good to go.The only consideration to keep in mind though is that the gpu that you are planning to use must be somehow equal with the rest systems performance if you have a very bad system and you pair it with a good gpu you will end up with a very crappy result in general. To explain what i mean by that i have a x58 platform which even today is more than capable to run any game in any resolution in any settings as long as you pair it with a Xeon x56xx serries and a very strong gpu before the Xeon my platform had an i7 920 cpu when i bought the 1050ti performance was mostly ok then i bought the gtx1080 and man it was bad the performance in general was very bad the card was holding back sooooooooo bad the gain was like 20 fps in average..then i bought the Xeon and the performance had skyrocketed in another level actually the gain was almost triple times better in a 1080p resolution then i pair it with a 1080ti but i had again a little gain in 1080p because my card was holded back by the cpu then i changed the resolution and the card was performed like a champ.

      Can I fit a DDR5 graphics card in a DDR4 motherboard?
      Yes, you can. The DDR4 motherboard refers to the RAM/memory and should not be confused with discrete graphics memory. A DDR4 motherboard can handle DDR3, DDR5, GDDR5 and GDDR5X graphics cards. ... Of course you can plug it normally in DDR4 motherboard and get it to work.
