Hey you legends! If you haven‘t seen it yet, I‘ve uploaded a Tutorial how to easily master driving without the racing line:) ruclips.net/video/9g9cu0KgRQc/видео.html
I wish there was an option for racing line "braking zone only", because my limitation is that i always mess up braking points by 10 or even 20 meters on some corners where i don't even confidence like the hairpins on Shangai. With corners only i know where the correct spot is and i can manage to brake much further into the line suggest by the game
I used to use it as well, but after some time i stopped using it and i don't even remember why. With the cars i use the most i can more or less brake at the right spot in weird conditions or in an unknown track, and from there i see if i braked too early or too late, and adjust it You just have to get your eyes used to the space needed for braking. I usually tend to need 10-15 laps to get some good braking references when i don't know the car or the track
Sometimes the setup matters, because if you are using a default setup there is a lot of understeer and maybe you can't do the tight corners flat out like turn 7 Edit: and turn 8, also the braking you can't brake as late, at least the rear end is stable.
I remember James Baldwin said that he tried the sim racing line in his GT3 (probably the one when you keep the inside line in last corner to get more tenths), and his engineer asked him to stop doing that.. :D And now I get that confirmation from you as a pro. The developer need to do something on this.
This line it good for learning new tracks, it gives you a bit of a heads up as to what corner is coming up rather than looking at the map. Apart from that I used it for breaking rather than cornering and I noticed the A.I ignored it in F1 2020 going through the Castle Section on the Azerbaijan track, they took completely different line. :) Edit: I forgot about the full racing line, I never used that as it was just the corner line I used. :D
Started playing f1 few months ago, currently on 90 ai with no assists except corner line, think next step is to turn it off, thanks for these videos! really helpful
@@OBJ3_13 When you turn traction off you will feel it on corners and on paint, definitely requires some time to get used too but makes the game really enjoyable

Getting the braking right is so difficult. Guys please tell me things improve with time. I was so pumped to get my wheel and I’m getting frustrated after 2 weeks. A turning the racing line off tutorial would be great. A lot of videos tell you what to do but don't explain it to where people can understand, Jarno did a video like this except he did not turn the racing line on and followed it like you did. Great video!
As a new person into racing, playing without racing line is very hard but more satisfying when I play without it.It's much better to depend on my own skills rather than on a green line.Of course,it takes time to get better and better but the outcome is surely satisfying.
The racing line stops you from learning the track. You just learn to follow that whereas if you drive without the racing line, you will be slower initially but will eventually know the track well.
It's funny because max actually takes his own line. I've found he doesn't stick to the normal line even on real life and I believe that's what makes him so quick he races in real life like he does in a sim. It's why he kisses walls and stays so tight compared to other f1 drivers. He won't go wide if he doesn't have to he will cut. People are so worried about what is technically right or wrong they get stuck. Like them saying you want ro make the line as straight as possible. No because then you are under turning in you are staying to wide many times and you arnet going to be on the limits of grip which is what makes you much faster. I see so many sim racers turning in so little and wondering why they are slower. Instead of reslly throwing the car in and really feeling the edge of grip you want the car to rotate if you can you don't want to leave it wide. Then what happens is they are holding a straighter line and it pulls them iut wide and they give Gas and it brings them out wide again because they aren't actually turning in the inside line. Remember guys the shortest line will always be the fastest! It's that simple.
I use the racing line as a refrence only since i can't play enough to have every turn memorized. Throughout using it on each track i can usually figure out, ok, don't follow it here, and i also use it as my refrence point for braking, again, as i do more laps, i push harder and figure out where my preferred braking point is or if i only need to lift instead of brake, and usually use the line instead of on track markers to remember my braking points etc. I've been doing it that way since i started sim racing with Gran Turismo 4. Of course, I've never done e racing leagues either. Just don't have enough time. Love your videos though mate, i do learn a lot from you
I started practicing without it today so this video is good confirmation on that I'm doing the right thing. For me the problem isn't finding the breaking points, for me the problem is not knowing how much speed I can carry through the corners. But practice makes perfect!

Low-key true. Like I'm not new to codemasters F1 games and usually I played the games before like F1 2012,2013-2016 with almost all assists on, meaning ABS, Traction control, Breaking assists, steering assist, drs assists, overtake assist.. you get the point, basically everything when you pick experience level "novice". And recently I turned them all off and tried how it is and to my suprise.. yeah took some time, some crashes, some spins, some nerves.. but I finally for once set the fastest qualifying lap on GP mode on AI difficulty 50 to 60. So it kinda made me realise that the assists, especially the breaking assist never let me do that because it would brake unnecessarily early and not allow me to even cut a corner or hit the apex of a corner.. and make me lose a lot of pace, also automatic transmission is very much not any easier than Manual, because even if you misshift you can always shift up or down in every second and the car doesn't stall the engine like it does in actual cars so it really isn't that much extra work at all. So far I've only kept the ABS on because it's quite difficult to dose the gas and breaks properly with a controller, because even when I think I didn't press the shoulder buttons (L2 and R2) too hard I still end up either locking up (braking to hard) or Drifting or spinning (accelerating too quick). Either way, many assists in codemasters f1 games aren't really assists but limitations, and I noticed this especially in F1 2018 and onward.😂
The problem I have was with racing line on I could just jump into multiplayer and do semi decently without learning every single track while without it would be a disaster on tracks I never raced/very little practice on. But now I know the problem with having it on is not just you keep your eyes where you aren't supposed to look (on the line instead of the apex/exit/other cars), but it is also not optimum. I am usually +2 seconds from the WR but with this I think I can cut down at least another 5 tenths if I drive without it properly. Problem is how do you "know" the optimal braking point without the lines tho? I always find myself braking too early so I ended cruising too much or too late that I miss the apex if not complete run myself out of the track, and those changes depending on your tire conditions. I also can't differentiate if it's because of my lack of control of the car or it is plain not possible to take the corner at x speed and usually ended up just looking at videos of track guide and follow them because then for sure I know you can make it braking here and carry this speed out of it (and practice until I got it), but I feel there should be a way where you can find that yourself instead of relying on videos (I feel like I am just copying others instead of learning.. how to be faster on a track without reference, and will have trouble with lesser known sims/tracks where a WR video is not easily found)
Agree. When on a league and have accident with the driver who are still using the racing line, their argument always the same, they are just following racing line. And the investigation always have the same result that they are wrong and get penalized. When we have a battle, the racing line become irrelevant for a moment. I kinda understand that they were not ready to race without those line but it's sad that they can't enjoy the battle situation. It feels a lot different and more immerse if you battle without those line. My pace are not good really and it shown in the race result, from 20-ish tracks I may have good pace only in 6 or 7 tracks, the rest are just pain😆. But racing without racing line is something that I will highly suggest, it gives me more sensitivity to the other car's movement and it really help me on battle situation.
I was wondering why i was so slow, even though i have every assist off, i control the car perfectly etc. The only downside is corner racing line, and that maybe throws me off. Thanks Marcel!
I use racing line because I don't know the braking points. I tried it without racing line but then I was really really slow and missed some braking points.
Ive only been playing on elite settings for a short time, i find i dont spin and dont overbrake/throttle anymore. Going off of your instinct is much faster than the line
Hey Marcel! As I already mentioned before, you really do help me with your videos in my friends racing season. Personally, I use the racing line in corners only because i dont know every braking point, but sometimes i do adapt because i can see the faster line Would appreciate to watch a video from you, so i can learn to turn it of and maybe to learn how to switch by myself, although i am on a controller
I didn't use racing line but when I started league racing a bit I turned it corners only so I can focus on other people and I can think less about braking points. In quali it loses time if you follow it but in the race it doesn't matter that much if it's not like eSports pace league.
My main problem is braking zones. Im a fan of late apex's myself and I play on controller, tho if anyone was to see any of my gameplay you would think I was on a wheel. I get much faster than average lap times than the normal controller player, but I only have the racing line on for braking zones, just because 1, its incredibly hard to have a sense of speed in the controller and 2, because I can never memorize the braking zones for all these different tracks and their corners. In some cases I dont take the sim racing line "personal lack with regards to not realizing its there" and only really doing it somewhere around the last corner like at Imola and the final turns before the start/finish straight at Azerbaizan, and having a hardware disadvantage I could get a fair bit faster without the line.
@@MarcelKiefer absolutely! I think I'll try it around monza and Austria, my two tracks with the most practice and see how big the deficit is. Will Def be looking for a tutorial on how to improve braking points without the racing line! 💪
i played my first race on f1 2021 , without the racing line , for sure i struggled for the first 5-6 times , i have not played any previous f1 games except on mobile , the racing line tells you the braking points for sure but , without it , the curbs can be attacked more , which results in more speed , im using ps5 controller and its a better experience to drive without the racing line rather than with the line
The biggest problem i have is to stay consistent. I am using the sim racing line but only got the corner lines on to see the braking points because in f1 its hard to learn.
@@MarcelKiefer Thanks a lot man! Any tips for staying consistent during longer races? Because sometimes i am starting to miss apexes or take wrong racing lines. :/
I use the 2d racing line but never 100% follow it. Some sim lines you'll learn from others or doing leagues. Racing line is fine to use for braking points. Spain T3 for example don't follow the line there or Portimao S2/S3
I use corner line for braking points only and I never follow it exactly either. I only pay attention to the line at the start of a braking zone but going through the corner I ignore or completely. Stuck with corner line on for now because I cannot memorise the braking point for every corner on every track and I'm also just like a second slower for whatever reason. I'll have to wait to the end of the League season before I can practice because I don't want to lose a second in a tier in which the slowest guy is only 0.500 off the pole time.
Only reason I use racing line is because it gives be a rough guidance of wear to break, I practice on time trial to see the limit of every braking point, but using reference points is just overly complicated than looking at bright lines
I can't do sim racing lines because I use controller and I just can't get the car turned like I would be able to on a wheel :/ and having the racing line off at France for me is impossible because of all the different track veriants
I’ll mostly play with out racing line but if I need to find extra pace I will use it as a reference i still know the apex of each Turk but it’s definitely makes me faster with a reference there
I only use the racing line because I've been going from F1 2013 to F1 2021 and the 2021 cars seem to be way less predictable and more likely to spin than the 2013 cars I'm used to - in 2013 I can play without the racing line just fine lmao
Racing lines are good to learn circuits if it's the first time you play them, but when you think you know where the corners are and when to approximately brake/accelerate, you should deactivate it
it would be awesome really to make anther video to turn i use but as reference in braking but in line i usually dont stick to it cause i saw from pros like you that you change it very informative
Thanks a lot. Your videos are great. I would love to see another video as you mentioned explaining how to drive without the racing line. I'm still dependent on the racing line but I feel that with more practice I can finally get rid of it.
I don’t play all that often on 2020 I could race with no assist the curbs really messed me up on 2021 so I turned tc on medium I wish they’d have a low setting and because I was spinning on the curbs so much I have to turn on RL I hate to admit it but flashbacks are a big problem aswell I spin so much it’s ruins the game in a 22 race career I’m on season to full race settings only in season two just got to Singapore and I’ve used 5,000+ flashbacks in races FP’s and Qualifying
Just turn your flashbacks to high (6) and it really does force you, also play a lot of multiplayer (as they are no flashbacks ofc.) I've only been doing this for a short amount of time and my consistency has gone up exponentially
@@MarcelKiefer and the same issue with the braking point. A lot of people try to dive on you, without actually braking later than you. Most are used to the AI just backing off bit in online racing, oh oh oh…
"oh dear." ;)
Strangely I being winning races without using the racing line I just race and slipstream of other racers and then intercept the player to prevent them getting past me, that's my tactic and it's so much easier
Very good video and very good advice! I usually race without the racing line anyway but despite that, i tended to use the "real" racing line. I'll give this one a shot soon!
I got the game less than a month ago and within the first week of playing i knew the in game racing line was costing me time. Once I can learn how to race without the corner line I'm turning it off
Need to learn it soon but just got My first wheel and still struggle with setups tho i dont know why but I always been a brake later Even when its red sometimes i got a good exit
I really need to learn how to turn the racing line off. I stopped racing for 6 months or so, and now I can't do without it even though I know that I was doing without it.
Hello Marcel! First of all thank you for your Content! I Love it and im looking Every Video…a question: can you please make a totorial Video of how to Drive without Traction control? I know so much guys who looking for such a Video because it es so difficult without traction control! Traction control with medium Traction control is no Problem. I would love to hear a answer From you! Thank you and have a Nice day :)
Any time I try to use all the track with the kerbs and everything to get a good time my lap is invalidated cause the track limit ends half a meter before the end of the track.
Can you teach us quick ways of learning how to drive without it because I have used it for many years for my braking points and taking it off now would be a massive struggle to learn without the line since I am so used to the line being there.
Do you do one on one coaching sessions? Paid of course, im a good driver but i want to get even better, always 1-2 seconds slower than e-sports, and 7-9 tenths slower than the fastest people in my league. I just want to understand what im doing wrong
Btw even if you know the braking points perfectly and then turn off the racing line you wouldn’t know HOW MUCH braking is required. You probably should learn how to drive manual and then turn off the racing line. Because you’ll know what gear for each turn and then brake accordingly.
In my league we have a Sim league now so also no racing line and since I drove there I saw how much later I can brake without abs and racing line but I am not realy faster with sim but this come with time
The racing line also limits your skills overall, I turned it off a month ago in raceroom, I crashed my way through every map, didn't know where to brake at all.... Now when I have it off, I am way faster, having competitive lap times and much more consistency. Now I am racing myself, improving my brake references and lines and not racing the stupid racing line.
I don't think i'm a really good driver in games but i always hated to use the racing line, i feel uncomfortable and it put me nervous. So i always preferred to do as many laps to figure the track. Got sense?

But racing without racing line is something that I will highly suggest, it gives me more sensitivity to the other car's movement and it really help me on battle situation.
Bro you have written an essay 😂
I learned this the first month of playing F1. I've been preaching it to F1 friends ever since
You are a great friend to have then 🤝
@@MarcelKiefer haha thanks! That's huge coming from you. I finally have a pro to back me up
I was wondering why i was so slow, even though i have every assist off, i control the car perfectly etc. The only downside is corner racing line, and that maybe throws me off. Thanks Marcel!
Thank you! Great content as always.
Dude you are so awesome, loved your video man!
Personally, I use the racing line in corners only because i dont know every braking point, but sometimes i do adapt because i can see the faster line
Would appreciate to watch a video from you, so i can learn to turn it of and maybe to learn how to switch by myself, although i am on a controller
Sounds like you are very quick on the controller, give it a go anyways for a while!
@@MarcelKiefer absolutely! I think I'll try it around monza and Austria, my two tracks with the most practice and see how big the deficit is.
Will Def be looking for a tutorial on how to improve braking points without the racing line! 💪
A buddy of mine uses the racing line on corners and is super rapid!! He’s had a few no 1 spots on the TT leaderboard
Can you make a vid on how to brake perfectly on corners and how to make use of the curbs perfectly so the car doesn't slow down ?
I really like these kind of videos
Thank you for this video Marcel, I needed this 🙏
You are welcome, glad it helped :)
Thanks so much for sharing your in-depth knowledge and great tips with us. Looking forward to watching your next video! :)
Gday Marcel, i have to admit its a pleasure to listen and learn from you.. THANKYOU>>
You are a hero to sim racers with your tips marcel 😁
Please do make another racing line video.
I love all this help and information.
Btw. You were brilliant in the Brazil race.
Man thank you for this video 5/5
You are welcome!
i played my first race on f1 2021 , without the racing line , for sure i struggled for the first 5-6 times , i have not played any previous f1 games except on mobile , the racing line tells you the braking points for sure but , without it , the curbs can be attacked more , which results in more speed , im using ps5 controller and its a better experience to drive without the racing line rather than with the line
The biggest problem i have is to stay consistent. I am using the sim racing line but only got the corner lines on to see the braking points because in f1 its hard to learn.
Watch my latest Video, you will get used to it!
Yea that also works!
Vielen Dank für diese Insides! Super wertvoll…
Only reason I use racing line is because it gives be a rough guidance of wear to break, I practice on time trial to see the limit of every braking point, but using reference points is just overly complicated than looking at bright lines
Great video, Marcel! I would love to see more tips on how to get better 😆
I use racing line for reference when i’m side by side with someone and/or not on the racing line
Thx for the explanation! Good work from a passionate driver! … nice Mercedes Start 😋😁👍🏽
i wish F1 had some sort of assist that had no Line but still had Braking Zones as that is the only thing i struggle with
Video to help out following tomorrow :)
I can't do sim racing lines because I use controller and I just can't get the car turned like I would be able to on a wheel :/ and having the racing line off at France for me is impossible because of all the different track veriants
Waiting for the video on how to turn off the racing line, thanks Marcel!
Will be uploaded tomorrow :)
I only use the braking line even tho its rly corner line, but i used to go no line but recently i just havent had the time to learn it
I use corner/ breaking line only as a reference. I brake where I think I should. But. With it turned off. I always miss my spot
makes me think they should add an option to draw your own racing lines, or like manufacture them based on your inputs
Can you do a video on how to learn my braking points without the racing line?
Thanks a lot. Your videos are great. I would love to see another video as you mentioned explaining how to drive without the racing line. I'm still dependent on the racing line but I feel that with more practice I can finally get rid of it.
Watch out for your sub box tomorrow :)
They should add Cones as an optional thing just like in Gran Turismo.
I don’t play all that often on 2020 I could race with no assist the curbs really messed me up on 2021 so I turned tc on medium I wish they’d have a low setting and because I was spinning on the curbs so much I have to turn on RL
I hate to admit it but flashbacks are a big problem aswell I spin so much it’s ruins the game in a 22 race career I’m on season to full race settings only in season two just got to Singapore and I’ve used 5,000+ flashbacks in races FP’s and Qualifying
Just turn your flashbacks to high (6) and it really does force you, also play a lot of multiplayer (as they are no flashbacks ofc.) I've only been doing this for a short amount of time and my consistency has gone up exponentially
Biggest issue battling people using the racing line- they have no feeling where to position their car when going wheel to wheel through a corner
That is true, never thought about that
@@MarcelKiefer and the same issue with the braking point. A lot of people try to dive on you, without actually braking later than you. Most are used to the AI just backing off bit in online racing, oh oh oh…
"oh dear." ;)
Yes give us videos with all the tips and tricks!
Strangely I being winning races without using the racing line I just race and slipstream of other racers and then intercept the player to prevent them getting past me, that's my tactic and it's so much easier
a happy new year to you marcel
Very good video and very good advice! I usually race without the racing line anyway but despite that, i tended to use the "real" racing line. I'll give this one a shot soon!
i'd really like to see a video on helping to turn the line off. Im currently working on it and aiming for WOR T4 on xbox so a video would really help
Marcel, could we have your updated camera settings please?
yes :) will do an updated settings video soon!
for me its just about where your braking point is and where to turn in
When is the settings video coming? And of course thank you for your videos!!
Will follow!
@@MarcelKiefer And a Video how to turn off line would be cool too 🚀
I got the game less than a month ago and within the first week of playing i knew the in game racing line was costing me time. Once I can learn how to race without the corner line I'm turning it off
Let‘s go!
I need your mic noise gate and settings for the quadcast it sounds super good
Need to learn it soon but just got My first wheel and still struggle with setups tho i dont know why but I always been a brake later Even when its red sometimes i got a good exit
Moin, Marcel. Erstmal frohes neues Jahr. Kannst du vlt noch ein paar Track Guides machen? Du machst die echt richtig gut. Mach weiter so👍👍👍
i find it easy to race without a racing line in every sim that i have, but i have NEVER been able to comfortably race without it in any f1 game lol
you will get used to it :D
I wish there was just a brake indicator on the track instead of the line, I only need it for braking now
Nice video man, would love another one with how to turn it off :)
Will be live tomorrow!
@@MarcelKiefer Absolut animal! (both for videos and Perez defense ;).)
I really need to learn how to turn the racing line off. I stopped racing for 6 months or so, and now I can't do without it even though I know that I was doing without it.
I guess a video how to drive without racing line would help many people :)
Will follow soon 😊
The issue is i feel like when i brake just a little later i fly off the line so thats why i follow it
I just want bta markers in the future as I only need the line for a braking point
(bta=brake turn apex)
Hello Marcel! First of all thank you for your Content! I Love it and im looking Every Video…a question: can you please make a totorial Video of how to Drive without Traction control? I know so much guys who looking for such a Video because it es so difficult without traction control! Traction control with medium Traction control is no Problem. I would love to hear a answer From you! Thank you and have a Nice day :)
I never used the line because my lap times are horrible with line in any game but tbh it's much more fun to drive without line
Nice video👍👌
Any time I try to use all the track with the kerbs and everything to get a good time my lap is invalidated cause the track limit ends half a meter before the end of the track.
Can you teach us quick ways of learning how to drive without it because I have used it for many years for my braking points and taking it off now would be a massive struggle to learn without the line since I am so used to the line being there.
Would you be able to do a video where it shows how much turning you are doing with your wheel through turns?
Do you do one on one coaching sessions? Paid of course, im a good driver but i want to get even better, always 1-2 seconds slower than e-sports, and 7-9 tenths slower than the fastest people in my league. I just want to understand what im doing wrong
I would love to see a video on how to learn driving without the racing line
Just gotta learn the track is all
Btw even if you know the braking points perfectly and then turn off the racing line you wouldn’t know HOW MUCH braking is required.
You probably should learn how to drive manual and then turn off the racing line. Because you’ll know what gear for each turn and then brake accordingly.
Great video 👏
Thank you!
Please do make that video of how to change please. Then also converting from anti locks to no anti locks please
Got sense?
I use the line for two uses 1 learning a new track or 2 for breaking points I don’t understand the barge boards
Braking *
Wdym you don’t understand them
