I believe this is a single movement from a Prokofiev piano sonata - broken up (or doubled on bass and flute) for this instrumentation. An earlier studio recording of the group "Free Flight" in the early 90's (or 80's) that was perhaps a little faster was what tuned me in to Ralph Humphrie's drumming. That's an intense recording.
@@dbindle This is an adaptation of Prokofiev's Piano Sonata No. 7,3rd movement.Amazing piano piece,I highly recommend Grigory Sokolov's version played in Paris(2002)
that was absolutely intense.
Bowie's best pianist, with his excellent quartet.
What's the name of this piece ?
