    Interesting test.
    Currently looking around in the EV-World and was interested in the 'real range' of cars like this.
    5.6 Km per Kw is not bad if you compare it with the ICE, where even a modern Diesel in a car like this would hardly reach half of that.

      The problem is about the usable battery capacity. It's 50 kwh on paper but according to my calculations the reviewer had to bail out after 34 kwh of consumption, within the same efficiency numbers, remaining 20 miles means 7 kwh more energy remaining so it's around 40 kwh usable battery in total, in this case? Practically usable 34 kwh, total usable for driving 40kwh.. How much did the air conditioning consumed I am curious?

    Very helpful review. Great shame about the lack of range, as it ticks every other box on my list. However, my current Zoe 50 could have done that journey on one charge with ease. ( but less comfort)

    • @wojciechmuras553
      @wojciechmuras553 3 года назад

      He would've done it. As he said, he had 21 miles to go and 21 miles of range when he decided to charge. Besides, PSA cars can still do a few miles with no range left. ë-C4 is rather inefficient, and the range isn't the best it could be, but 150 miles is entirely possible. In my books, that's enough (even if noticably less than Zoe).

    I wonder if the hilly landscape caused a problem? I don’t think legacy OEMs have got the regen sorted and wonder how a bmw i3 (an exception to the previous comment) as it would generate more energy going down the hills than this car. Worth testing?

    If you were averaging 3.5m per kWh in theory you had a max range of 157 miles, based on the usable capacity of 45kwh. You had enough range left to climb Telegraph hill and get onto the A380. It’s a shame there is no CCS charging in Newton Abbot as had there been, you could have pushed it a bit more. But the test route was good and you could argue realistic range of around 150 / 160 miles.

    • @chargeelectric9905
      @chargeelectric9905  3 года назад

      I was tempted to push on and go back via Dawlish, Teignmouth, Shaldon to avoid telegraph. I’m sure it would have made it going that way, but I wasn’t feeling that adventurous that day.

    The range is more than good enough! Will surely go for a test drive! My friend has one and in Eco mode it is great and that is the mode you should be in when maximising the range. Of course if it is cold you might to go back to Normal now and then. 3.5 miles / kWh is like under 18 kWh / 100 km which sound completely normal for EV’s.

    • @chargeelectric9905
      @chargeelectric9905  3 года назад +2

      I agree, the range won’t be a problem for 90% of owners, but as you know, people tend to be obsessed with total range even though they probably will hardly ever need anything more.
      What range is your friend getting?
      If I had more time with the car I would’ve repeated the journey in eco, with climate off.

      @@chargeelectric9905 this is true, but a lack of confidence in ability to get somewhere in a predicable time ( given the shortcomings in en route charging infrastructure at present) can be a significant turn off for potential EV users. Given that your review of the car was otherwise so positive, and test route very appropriate, I wonder if the supplier might lend it to you again to repeat the test in eco mode only?

    I dont see nothing wrong to stop more often if available range is not enough. Some of us can take cofee, a cigarette, or have a rest for next trip. During charging you can have a also some break with your partner on back seats😊 but in this case it depends on your stamina or car should have pretty fast charging available😂 we own this car and we can recommend! If you like comfort ride, you should buy this or look for something better in much more expensive tier.

    The problem with this car is that it's got the same battery as the Peugeot e208 and the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa e, 50 kWh gross, 45 kWh net. That's too small for this car, it needs at least 60 kWh.
    PSA/Stellantis has got good electric cars but it seems they're too shy to experiment with other batteries, as well as the limitations of sharing same platform and structure with ICE cars.
    Better to take an Opel/Vauxhall Corsa e that it did 167 miles with carwow on motorway (same battery, smaller car = more range).

    I have the Peugeot e-208 which is the brother of the e-c4 , same battery etc. I have found it is probably the least efficient ev out there. I've had a Nissan Leaf 24kw before the pug and it was way more efficient.

      @happykarmaman34 3 года назад +1

      @@chargeelectric9905 The same as the e-c4 at 4 degrees. I drive fairly efficiently with hardly any motorway use.. From about 18 degrees I get 5kwh and below 5 degrees get about 3-3.5khw. So mid winter 130 miles and summer 190-200.Nice car but as it's not a dedicated ev it lacks that quietness and efficiency. From 10 degrees the efficiency jumps, guessing to do with the battery chemistry. Vauxhall , pug, Citroen and DS are all part of the PSA group so share all the ev tech. If you want efficiency you need to get Hyundai, Kia or Tesla at the moment but they tend to be more expensive.

    • @brianstevenson9967
      @brianstevenson9967 3 года назад +1

      @@chargeelectric9905 If that is what you normally do then fair enough but I think most EV drivers would not drive that type of journey in normal mode all the way, your vehicle has an eco mode for a reason, it makes no sense to not make use of it on that type of journey as normal mode is not required for a good proportion of the journey, personally my car runs in eco mode for probably 75% of a long journey, it doesn’t add a huge amount but as you stated in that video, you topped up because you thought it was a close call on the range to reach home. Do you not think that had you you used the eco mode for a good proportion of that journey you would have got home without a stop, we all drive to the capability of the vehicle we are driving. If I drove a vehicle that I knew had more than enough range thru past experience then I might make use of the extra pace on the vehicle even if I knew it was not necessary. On the other hand if I was driving another vehicle I had no experience of I would tend to drive it to its best potential, that gives me a realistic idea of the cars range on an average journey,this does not mean switching everything off and freezing to death inside, I mean driving the car to its full potential, that to me is real world driving.
