That's not entirely true tho, you can see the pain, misery, guilt, sadness and emptiness in Damon's eyes when he says that HE killed Elena, which was the love of his life and the ONLY person he ever truly loved 😢😢😢😭😭🥺
This scene had broken my heart so much 💔😭 Stefan seemed more devastated than Damon in this episode. Stefan's heartbreak in that episode was palpable, you could see the love he still holds for Elena. I can't help but think that despite everything that has happened, the relationship between Stefan and Elena is and will always remain the deepest in the series, it's undeniable.
There's so many scenes that just show how much Stefan naturally and genuinely loves and will always love Elena. When he resisted the compulsion of an original and even left Klaus shocked to save Elena. Also, when he lost his memories. Didn't know who he was, his family/ friends, his past, species but still feel head over heals in love with Elena in less than 24 hours. On top of that we have the unlimited amount of times Stefan was ready to sacrifice himself for the safety of Elena.

Damon hallucinated burning Elena alive and he didn't know at this moment. He thought he burnt her for real. It was season 7 episode 13.
