Personally, I have a story that I'd like to see as a movie, (since '95), and basically only told a few people over the years.
Although anyone I've told, seem to like it. with comments like, "That is the most awesome story I've ever heard..." or, "I don't ever go out to the movies but I would go to the theaters to watch that."
So currently one of my friends, (who knows people who knows people), after telling him, told me to write it up... so now I have to put my rough draft into a professional layout/copyright it/wip up a synopsis and comprise a log line.

❤ here's to realizing those unique ideas! I watch a ton of movies to get ideas for my own scripts and honestly, would love to get into it

In terms of practicing, should a beginner screenwriter start with short films and then move on to features?

Honestly, I'd start with writing what you want to write. If you want to write and direct? Yes, start with shorts. If you just want to write? Write what you want to ultimately be writing.

Hey as a fellow beginner how about this -- I am planning to try out at least one of each (a short, a TV pilot, and a feature film). So have one of each for that "I would do it this way"

So practicing is kinda like doing rough sketches by pencil...

Yep. Only get better by practice. No one is great out of the gate.
