Hey Mel, I just made the 15 bean soup for my family last week. I add smoked pork neck bones that I've precooked, I made mine on the stove but will try my pressure cooker next time - thanks for that tip! I also add chopped bell pepper, carrots and celery and like to serve it over white instant rice that I added a chicken bouillon to and corn bread that I've added creamed corn and sharp cheddar to. I can hardly wait to see the new baby bunnies!!! God's continued blessings on you and your sweet family! ❤💖💕💗
You all seem to be adapting well to the freeze! Lol. Couldn’t help but notice all your connected hoses… we would disconnect all hoses in the winter and haul water directly from the gravity spigot… learned the hard way when one sub-zero winter the hose water had backed into the shut off spigot and froze and cracked internal valves and rings in the spigot. Could be you have some protection in place there at the hoses already… i just know a pretty good area of the yard was flooded before we realized we had a below ground leak and it was attributed to the attached hose over winter. I hesitate to comment because it may be something you have already accounted for, but as an old northerner I’d feel bad to see you have to replace any pumps or hoses come spring.
The weather up here in BC Canada is BRUTAL! The back door is frozen shut, the pipes are frozen, the bathtub drain is frozen, windows are iced up. Yep, I'm ready for spring...
Your yard and garden is so organized. You will be fine in the storm ya’ll are accustomed to the area now. You are the strongest very united team. Stay safe.
I hope that the rabbits and the other animals survive the coming storm as well. Glad to see momma rabbit take to her little nesting box. Sure hope things turn out differently this time around. The thing that would have set that bean/venison soup off right was a pan of cornbread. A couple boxes of Jiffy Mix, a couple eggs, a cup of sour cream (more or less), 2/3 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil and a TBSP or 2 of sugar (optional) and some butter for your pan (esp. if it's cast iron) and for topping and you got it. Bake in 350 degree oven for 25 - 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean and the cornbread is browned to your liking. No muss, no fuss. Just deliciousness.
Think about it for a second.. if we cut the hole to go upstairs from the basement, that is going to cause more problems then benefits. The benefit is we can go upstairs without having to go outside. Great. The problem with it is now not only do we lose our temporary pantry space in the basement, but we also will lose our heat in the winter as HEAT RISES, right Cholesmom? LoL! Keeping it closed keeps the basement climate controlled for now. We probably won't be opening that up and doing the stairs there until after we insulate up there at the very least. I'm not sure where you came up with the assumption that we would be doing that as soon as it was dried in, as we have never said that.
@@debdeb62065 I'm sorry if my reply came off harsh to you or like I was chewing the OP out. Not my intention. I just wanted to make sure to answer clearly our reasoning why were not doing it now. We've never said we were doing it soon.
I love 15 bean soup! The only thing I do differently is I brown my ground meat then add it to all the other ingredients 💕. Stay warm! It cold here in Idaho. 10 inches of snow in two days 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
Brrrr! I know the freeze is inconvenient to you'll...but so exciting at the same time! Be safe and warm guys...cozy scene around the dinner table Mel 🤩❤
When we had rabbits we used banner material.... it was thicker than the vinyl tarps... so they last longer. We attached to the top by staple. then the bottom we stapled to a 1'x1' board so it could roll up and the wind would not let it move when extended down. One of my first-time mommas killed her babies.... allowed her to breed again and she did great. Such a fun time for our grandchildren to see the babies grow.
hi all, just an idea, could you insulate the cage seeing it is all open, because i think those babies will freeze to death in the weather you could be getting, or even put wood half way across their inside . Foil could be wrapped around the container where the babies are going to be.😁😁
That happened to mine , they all froze , we built a big shed and put hutches inside along with the chickens , we did have a chicken coop already but we changed it to the big shed , rabbit hutches at one end and chickens at the other end , worked fine for us .
suggestion to put wire screen or fence around the base tio prevent predators from reaching the bottom of hutch would still be ventilated install so can remove for cleaning the poo as needed
Hi Gary & Mel 👋 the older I get , less I like winter 🥶 my grandson loves it , as sure your kids do ☃️ hope all goes well with Mama bunny & babies 🙏 hope your family stays safe & warm 🙏
Wisconsin going down to -45 tonight but I feel you my brother in-law lives in Arkansas and he is really roughing out no heat not electric he will probably be in his car to keep warm running it
I didn't have to comment you said it. We have eight inches of snow our low has been twelve degrees below zero, warmed up last night -4 degrees below 0 Eastern WA. That's not counting our wind chill factor -20, -30 below
I think all of the rabbits need a little den. Think about it they live underground they like to feel safe in their environment whether it’s from noise or animals or the weather. I love what you’ve done but I really think they all need a den.👊💖
The heat lamps would make the rabbits dependent on those lamps, should power fail, it would be more harmful. In addition, the heat lamps can give a false signal to the rabbits to tell them they don't need as much fur, thus, as they'd shed, they would be less protected from the cold. Also, rabbits actually do better in the cold with their fur and body heat than they do in the warmer weather months. SLR is mainly protecting them from the elements (Rain, snow, ice and excessive winds) more so from the cold itself.
Good morning how you guys doing this morning is it kind of cold out there it's cold here in California all right well you guys have a great day and be careful out there and one step at a time no rush but like you said you got to take everything eventually from downstairs all the upstairs once everything gets done upstairs all right guys have a great day and have a pleasant day🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
I don't envy y'all having to work outside in the cold. I get up early, this morning at 4:00 AM, and it was 10 degrees here just north of Dallas, with a light dusting of snow. No outside work for me today, though! Thanks, for the video, I hope that you, your children, and all your animals stay safe and warm.

Looks good. I made White Chicken Chili this weekend when the negative degree temps hit us on Friday. Today was chilly too, got to a high of 11 degrees. Starting tomorrow night (Tuesday) the snow is returning. I will be so glad when winter is gone and spring is closer.

I think you need to put hay or straw for all your bunnies to keep warm. The momma container should be larger.
Not bad ideas! Momma should have plenty of space. My brother raised rabbits when I was a kid. We thought hairless rats had gotten in her shelter!! 😂 ❤

Lot of times a rabbit will eat her babies to protect them from predators. I know it sounds crazy but that’s the way nature is.

Or you could put straw on the bottom to help insulate as well.
The next time you process a rabbit or two for food, save the skinned pelts and have them dried for any Winter babies to lay on and keep warm.😊

Winter looks so different. I always think of a pot of warm food when its cold! 💜👍
Don’t use wire on the legs of the hutch. Makes it easier for animals to crawl up. Go buy PVC pipe to cover legs. To slick for them to crawl up.
I make the 15 bean soup. I put a can or two of Rotel and a large rope of smoked sausage. Everyone seems to like it.
Rabbits love the colder weather anyway.
