Lyrics
Well, I'm running
Police on my back
I've been hiding
Police on my back
There was a shooting
Police on my back
And the victim
Well, he won't come back
I been running Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Runnin' Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
What have I done?
What have I done?
Yes, I'm running
Down the railway track
Could you help me?
Police on my back
They will catch me
If I dare drop back
Won't you give me
All the speed I lack?
I been running Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Runnin' Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
What have I done?
What have I done?
Yes, I'm running
I am running
I'm running
Yes, I'm running
Down the railway track
Could you help me?
Police on my back
They will catch me
If I dare drop back
Won't you help me
Find the speed I lack?
I been running Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Runnin' Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
What have I done?
What have I done?
And I'm running
Police on my back

@@michaeljohnston9552 Thanks Michael, of course original is great too but I like Clash version better. It perfectly suits the album and whole punk movement.

The only band that matters
This song is never old. It sounds like an eternal youth.
the Clash were the Beatles of punk. Awesome band with songs that still resonate

The Beatlles? Who the fuck are they, Terry?
@@silverfox8615 Is exalted, you know, love the Beatles too but listen them in another mood
Please delete this comment. The Clash should NEVER be placed in the same sentence as those phoneys.
I didn't listen to the clash for so long because they trash talked the fabs. Just learning to forgive them now

enjoy this beautiful music and these words peace people ✌️🙂
Gracias✌️
Their songs made my life a little better when I was younger.
Cool at 64 too.
I taught my son the days of the week with this song. Gotta raise 'em right!
badass!
Most excellent!! 👌
The Clash
THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERS!!!
✊❤️❤️✊
True back in 82 and still today my Brother...And Rolling Stones' fans still suck!!
This is absolutely amazing. Everything about this song takes me to a en energetic, motivated, driven and youthful headspace. I'm still young, but now dealing with chronic pain and mobility problems, I feel a lot older than I am. I miss walking on foot for hours without feeling tired, stopping at the pub, eating and drinking, continuing on my way with no specific destination in sight. Get high, continue on and see where the day takes me. My best adventures have come from days like this, with The Clash blaring in my ears to keep me going.
We have an elastic heart .. i feel you!
Keep on keeping on man ! Bless this mess
Hey man, i skate and am energetic person, last winter i got diagnosed with 2 herniated discs. At first i couldn't even walk. I was broken. Then i started exercising and got better diet. I lost 25 kg and i skate hard as before. Still the pain is there but much less, and i can do the same stuff as before. I felt old as hell, but now i feel young and strong. Just keep on pushing!
I love your story man. Wish it was a little different in ur favor but isn't it Amazing that people you'll never meet recorded some sounds years ago and it energizes you in a way far beyond just "liking the song". A good song written with a lot of love n genius can propel us to higher boundaries than what our minds n bodies would ordinarily do.
@@vuckomarsenic2047 clash of songs were mostly political and I bet Joe Strummer never thought that his songs would be motivational workout songs lol
My favorite Clash song along with at least 3 others.
It’s originally an Eddy Grant song from the 60,s The Clash version is faster and better
Everytime I here the guitar/sirens in the beginning 🥲 God this music always brings back good memories 🖤 long live the clash
Joe Strummer was a genius. Sandinista gets better every time I listen. Best album ever.
Sandinista indeed is a beautiful treasure!! The Clash were soooo wonderful! They could play every style!
Mick Jones was the real musical talent, but yeah Joe was the passion
@@spm_hcmcAnd the lyrics, which were amazing and not the generic cringy punk fuck the system shit. He was also an awesome rhythm guitar player
The best Clash album
The band of my youth, the band of my old days, the band!
Me too
I’m 24 this is also the band of my youth thanks to my mom
I was a junior in HS when this song was being played on WBCN in Boston. It took a while, but I was at the ready with the tape recorder with the pause and record buttons depressed and a fresh Memorex cassette. My favorite song then....finally captured for endless repeat. I believe it was a level of anticipation, patience and joy that young people today can't comprehend and wouldn't understand.
4 words in this incredible song say it all. WHAT HAVE I DONE?
Police On My Back was originally released by The Equals in 1968. It was a relevant song then.
The Clash released their fantastic version in 1980. It was still relevant.
Now it's 2022 and if a band released a version of this song today, guess what? It would be more f*cking relevant than ever.
The cops whine and complain that they get no respect. When they treat people like citizens with rights and dignity instead of victims with targets on their backs only then will they get some respect. Respect is earned not casually given out.
We need a 2022 version of The Clash to inspire the youth of today. Long Live Social Justice!! VENCEREMOS!!
No we don't.
This album could have been recorded yesterday. The Clash are timeless, ageless and their music spans the generations as immortal artists do. Because The Clash are STILL the only band that matters.
You do realize the song is about someone murdering someone and then the police on their back to arrest them. Lmao
Dear Joe 40 years have gone and still Police is on my back...WHY?...what have I done?...and I have never been a Sandinista...but only a fan of Clash...Thanks a lot for your magnificent music...cheerio...
This album changed my life, when I was 15. Now 58 Ha!
57. Unfortunately I my only concert was Combat Rock
One of those ‘Wow that’s awesome, wait, it’s a cover?’ songs.
Best one on the lp
Best hi energy rock song ever. You wanna go running go run like the clash from the bobbies. They cant catch you
Great song to do a little cardio 🏃
ONLY THE CLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD I MISS THEM! RIP JOE, you were a GOD! sgl.
Fantastic. Energy galore.
So goood...
Any real band of the last 30 years and worth their weight in gold were forced to pass thru The Clash's gates
You got that fucking RIGHT !!!!!!
Maybe so, but any band that even entered the genre, including the clash owe it to the ones that started it all. That band is the Ramones.
Actually Iggy and the Stooges were the proto punk band. Iggy is still considered the godfather of punk. But yeah, the Ramones are tops!
@@draganglumac True, if you wanna get farther in The Who are considered the godfathers of punk.
I'll never forget the first time I listened to the clash
Always in my heart!
I love this song every time i kick up the volume to high !! Just love it

Saw them live 3 times in my you her days in London. Fantastic band.
Sounds as good today as the first time I heard this all those years ago - timeless classic!!

If someone is a kindergarten teacher this is how they should teach the kid show to learn there days of the week, if I have kids it’s how I’ll teach my kids
Smoke another joint
Don't forget to highlight that there was a shooting and the victim won't come back so they can learn about death at the same time 🙄
It’s how my kids learned.
That’s exactly how my son learned his days of the week when he was a toddler, by listening to this song! 😂
Legit why I'm here. Great minds.
After listening to the original version by the Equals, I find this version much more energetic, thanks to Topper's drumming and Mick's riffs.
By the way, I've been listening to this for 40 years and never get bored with it
Agreeing 100%!
19 years for me! Good for us for being so clever so, so long ago!
Did you know that it was written by Eddie Grant?
Yes. We all did.
And it's 'Eddy'

What a song ,a cover of the equals song
The Equals, by the fabulous Eddie Grant, wrote and played Police on my back. The band's pop sound at the time does not "cheat". They were the most provocative thing of their time.
Originally sang by The Equals (1967)
this is possibly the most nostalgic song in existence to me
Outer banks baby 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
This song would be great on a Grand Theft Auto soundtrack .😊
Anyone else hypnotised by the bassline
Me totally
Paul is a great bassist, much more to his playing then what meets the ears...try learning the bass line to Stay Free.
This is my best song of Clash.
40 yrs ago I heard this first and still listening. Class.
This and brain hanging upside down by ramones are 2 of the best songs ever written.
I'm right back in College today!! Waay back for me. But the music..miss it.🎵🎵

It’s a cover as the original was done by the Equals in 67

Better than anything I've heard, gimme aggressive punk over any other
Joe Strummer? The most passive man ever.
@@username0754 what's that got to do with aggressive punk...???... I know its a pointless fact to some and a little bit wordplay but I was merely pointing out that Strummer was the most anti-aggresive human being on the planet...love u...x

The most dangerous band in the world #TheClash
Amazing song, rediscovered thanks to an old audio recording we made found from the 80s.
The Only Band That Matters 👍🎶
@steveadams2576
I’ve never heard an x plantation of this; but my guess is that they were called this because they were great musically, lyrically, AND they wrote about issues and considered justice, injustice, and societal, and other issues that went beyond just relationship/ love songs.
🎶
God Loves You All❤️❤️❤️
A truly excellent cover of the late 1960s song by The Equals.
The end credits of Man on a ledge been Shazamed brought me here!
"What have I done"......
It's criminal that this song was never on any MLB the Show soundtrack 🤦
How so?
Guitar "sirens" were an inspired touch.
Great song and did you catch how they make the siren sound with their guitars

Shred Central PodCast BROUGHT ME HERE.
I'm a teacher of English and I've always used this song to make my young students learn the days of the week and ...WHAT I HAVE DONE?
The Equals' cover song (with Eddy Grant of "Electric Avenue" fame)... Grant had created the "Killer On The Rampage" album (in the 1980's)
found out this was written by Eddy Grant, the guy who had a hit with “electric Avenue” in the 80s. He wrote it in the late 60s when he was part of the group the equals, and they had a minor hit with it.
Totally makes sense now.. this has eddy written all over it. Sounds very similar to electric Avenue
Wowzers!!!! I never knew, cheers for that! 🍻
