- This week I sort of continue rounding corners but this time with the soap skin plugin (see link below). Soap skin helps you create very smooth non-uniform rounded objects. I even show you how to make tufted fabric that you can use for sofas and mattresses! Thanks for watching guys, if you like my videos please subscribe! Happy Sketchin'!
Plugin: Soap Skin

Finally, I find somebody that makes clear modelling tutorials that are perfectly paced and well described. Many thanks.
Aeron you are indeed a gift to this generation. Keep doing the good work
I've been searching this kind of video, who teaches modelling that are easy to follow and well described. Thank you so much.
Excellent videos by Aaron. Explains everything clearly. Thanks a lot.
SketchUp users are fed up with plugins plugins plugins plugins.
Name plugins sucks. Why can't they simply put the plugins directly in the software itself?? Just like 3dsmax, blender, they should completely give all plugins so that people should not search download everytime.
Big headache.
Glad you liked it, and thanks for the advice, I will certainly try!
Thanks for explaining how to use this extension! I watch a half-dozen completely useless videos before I found this. (I really don't know why people post so many worthless "demo with background music" videos for SketchUp tools, with no explanation of what they're doing. It just makes it harder to find useful stuff like this.)
Hey Jamie, it's certainly a difficult shape to create but I think I have a way of going about it. You can do it with soapskin but if you have a smoothing brush it would help out as well; check out the Artisan plugin.
Check out the link in the description, in the first picture, try a quarter of the tent spike. Next, select the shape and fill it with the soapskin plugin. Then mirror that shape into a circle and if you have it, use the Artisan plugin to smooth the join line. Hope that helps!
appreciate it, man, so far you are the best tutor on line that I feel like. really thanks.
Thank you very much! And yes, I do plan on posting a few more when I get the chance.
Hello Aaron and thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. I had seen a similar explanation of the plug-in from Sketch Up School. Not judging but two explanations are better then one and your version is a little quicker. I have been using it for boat hulls and seeing you explode it adds another element I did not think of. Been at this for 8 months and learn a new use or function every day. Just to say thanks and looking forward to more wisdom!!
Glad I could help! I'm looking forward to getting back into making tutorials when the time is right. But hopefully they'll be up sooner rather than later!
Thanks a lot for this tutorial! Very nice, simple and clearly explained.
Hey Aaron, I can't thank you enough for this tutorial, man! I finally got it. Yay!
It's possible that it's an older version of the plugin. I know the current version is set to expire April 10th, but they usually extend the time limit by a year or so once it starts getting close.
I've never encountered that problem before so all I can say is to try and find another source to download the plugin, or delete the plugin files and try putting them back in. Good luck with it.
You should do a tutorial building out the rest of the tuft material going down the sides. Great tutorials thanks!
Thanks, glad you like it!
Thank you so much for sharing with so much clarity!!!!
Hey Aaron, your tutorials are absolutely amazing ! I really hope you plan to post more of them, especially about the use of V-Ray ;)
Thank you for these, Aaron. Keep the *off the radar* tips flowing. Maybe some more woodworking-centric vidz as well? peace
Quite possibly! Been very busy as of late but I'm looking at getting back into this soon!
There might be a way to do this, I'll have to look into it to find out for sure, probably with the aid other another plugin you could do it. If I find out I'll let you know.
Thank you great tutorial
Thanks for watching!
Cool tutorial bro! very helpful. thankyou!
Hi, It was so good tutorial.well done.
Is there any way to apply this deep button fabrici pattern on a curvy surface such as a round chair or cuddler?
Thanks dude
This was super, but when I try to apply a material to it, due to the grid I am not getting a smooth pattern on my surface, but a serious of applied patterns to each square. Is there any way get around this please?
EXCELENTE TUTORIAL!
Interesting. I have never used this program. I did see it long ago but it appeared to be a bit lacking at that time. I wonder If I can make use of this . I typically use blender . modeling for games is what I do . not experienced in sketchup
Awesome. Thank you so much for your help.
What did you use to round the edges of the button?

Hello !
I like your video tuts ,its amazing :-).
I like this plugin alot and want to get the trial version of SketchUp and use this and some other plugins as well but I ve heard lots of people complaining that this and some other plugins are not working or lot of problems with 2017 pro version .
so I am asking you as an expert which version you think this plugins are working better and I will purchase that one ,,2015 ,2016,or maybe you know how it works with 2017 ?
thank you
appreciate !
There's a link in the description, and yes it's free (:
Hi Aaron. Thank you for this tutorial. I downloaded the plugin but, it does not appear under the plugin menu. At the same time, the icon for my sketchup models has changed. (model is working fine, though.) Can anyone tell me how to solve this? Would love to use this plugin! Thank you!
Great video, really useful! I'd been struggling with trying to find a plugin that would do this- I have the skin.rb plugin but it doesn't seem to work for me.
I will just say though, as a bit of advice- for future videos, try to avoid breathing into the microphone... if you want to continue making videos but the mic won't pick up your voice from further away, then maybe it's worthwhile investing in a better one you can have further away from your mouth.
There's a link in the description, hope that helps!
How can I apply thickness to the smooth surfaces as I find the push/pull tool is not working on it.
what is the size of the rec 6 by 6,is it 6' by 6'?and the circle is 50''?but that doesn't match.
Hi Aaron thanks for the tutorial.
I am trying to make a spike once I have made my skin. I work for a stretch tent company and I am trying to create the tents in sketchup but can't figure out how to make a nice "tent spike" in the center of the skin. As if a pole had been pushed in. You can see an example on our profile pic or in some of our videos. Do you have any ideas how to do this?
I am using curviloft and soap, bubble, plugins
Many Thanks!
Jamie
Aaron. Great RUclips 'Soap Skin' plugin tutorial. Best on RUclips. But I have a glitch. I can follow and do everything you show, but the 'Divisions' box never appears. Reloaded the latest 2016 version from Extensions Warehouse, but no go. So a cry for help? Any ideas? Many thanks. John
i think i found a way to activate it. just want to share with you what i did (and it's very simple), i changed my computer date back to 2009 and guess what, it just start working (including those expired plug ins of mine).
hope it'll help others with the same problem.
Thanks. I always wondered how it is made.
Thanks you so much!!!!
Glad you liked it!
The Round Corner plugin. I can't post a link here but it's the first one on Google.
how did you make the button that was cool
Does Soapskin work with the new online Sketchup free? Is it still supported by Trimble?
Question: I downloaded the plugin and installed it in my SketchUp plugins folder. I have then closed and reopened the SketchUp program as to refresh it but could not find the plugin in the plugins section. How can I use it?
You might need to unzip and copy the separate files into the plugins folder. Some plugins are different are required different links to the program itself.
That's true!
why i can't download the soap skin,it said authentication problem.
THANK YOU
please Aaron, how do i get items/objects to use for ma sketch up.... the plug-in tools and all other helpful tools.
solomon momoh If you're using the newer versions of Sketchup (2014, 2015) you can get most of them easily from the extension warehouse under the window tab.
you could also have put the button inside the component to save time
Thanks Aaron!
When I tried to use the soap skill tool after selecting the outlines, it showed a 'timelimit finished' message.
wen i select the model and click on the skin button, a screen pop up, were they say;
Timelimit finished.
Wat can that be?
Thanks, Ron from Holland
Thank You!
Very Good!
You move so extremely fast through all of this that I've had to watch the video ~20 times to catch the nuances and various multiple clicks of what you are doing. Cool plugin but your tutorial really leaves a lot to be desired / explained. About half way through you Reverse Face (and don't explain why that matters) and then separate the skin from the original curves. I've tried that 10 times and still don't know how to do it...(Im using SKM 2015 and fresh install of plugin)
OMG how you help me thanks
I m brasilian and like your work
Hi Aaron, what is the tool you use to copy the buttons in a matrix form?
Cristinalsa Alvaro - select objects, move copy (press control), then type "x5", enter
Hello, wht's the plugin you use to create curves like this ?!
Thank you
Hey man you should start making more videos
Yeah sorry about that, haha. I do have plans on getting back into this, big plans actually. I'm hoping to get everything organized soon. Stay tuned!
Help, I can't find the round corner thing!!!!!!! don't know how to get it!
i install soap skin plugin but now not working need regesterion key . time limit out
Thank you
Is there a plugin that acts like soapskin but creates geometric faces instead if organic?
You could probably achieve this by using only a few divisions and them exploding the geometry without smoothing it.
That's a really good idea thanks.
Thanks alot!
Where did u get all the toolbars at the top of your sketchup?
thank you!
Ok, so I commented 4 years ago that I'd finally gotten it. Well, I did not wind up using the extension as much as I intended and just now, March 2020, I tried again and I have been struggling for 2 freakin' days - just in time to lose the extension this coming April. I sure hope there is a similar extension that creates the same effect. Anyone know of one?
The creator of this particular plugin has a timer on it rather annoyingly. They release new versions of it every year, at least they have been. A work around I've used in the past when I've needed it for a job and the new plugin wasn't available yet, was to set the clock on my computer back before it expired. Hope that helps.
Ok, this time I really got it! Thank you, Aaron!
@@AaronBishopDesign YES! Thank you so much!
anyone can tell what plugin he use when he make curve lines please..
what plugin did you use for the making the button?
HOW DO YOU MAKE THE MIDDLE COME OUT LIKE THAT?
i downloaded the plug in but it says 'timelimit finished" :(
do you have any advice about this?
hey can u post the link for this plugin n off course i need it for free....
They're different plugins I've collected over the years.
Coooooooooool
where can I get these plugins? thanks
www.tensile-structures.de/sb_software.html
Thanks :)
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Can someone tell me how to install/add DIBAC extension in sketch-up BUT! For Free...... :P
it is not a free plugin as you said.
It says: This Plugin is a Time-Limited Demo
Time Limit is April 10, 2015
Alexandru Dodu For some reason the plugin author has it expire every year. You can download the new version from the extension warehouse or online if you search for soap skin and bubble. Hope that helps.
Thank you
try tgi3d
hehe i didnt notice...thanks
Having a difficult time finding this one.
Go too quick to be of any use, and dont explain basic clicks, you just click away. More of a gloat, than a tutorial. By the way "Those old school sofas" are called Chesterfields - English, 19 Century.
+jblackmore2003 His earlier tutorials has the beginners video.
which plugin do you use to create the button in this video? Thanks
I used the Round Corner plugin, you can download it here: sketchupdate.blogspot.ca/2010/07/take-edge-off-roundcorners.html
