- Hello everyone and welcome to the forge! In this week's episode, I forge a blacksmith knife from an old Nicholson file. This is a great way to repurpose something that would normally be tossed into the scrap pile. These knives make great gifts and are fairly easy to make so get out fire up the forge and give it a try! I appreciate you watching!
Video made with Movavi Video editor
Great work! I just made my first scroll knife and addicted aint the word lol. So satisfying having a block of steel and turning it into something useful.
Thanks! That's the truth, once you get hooked your hooked! Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
@@Mysticmountainforge your welcome, I was a little big on the handle but ended up with a index in the handle instead of the scroll against the blade. Worked out pretty well
That was a nice clean job. You make it look easy. I always get all tense, for fear of making a huge mistake. Practice will take care of that, I guess. But, most of all watching you will let me steal a small little bit of your experience that I can learn from. Thanks for the demo. Great job. TTYL...
Thanks! Ones of these days I need to do a video on my box of failures. I appreciate you watching! Hammer on!
That is a beautiful knife. I just learned what I'm about to do. Nice work
Looks great.. love the twist and scroll

..Gud-un Matt !! makes me want to go dull a few files...
Thanks!
Well, ya made that look quick & easy. Setting me up for disappointment. Lol
Lol, that's the great part about editing, I can remove the 10 minutes of fiddling with trying to get the handle to look right. Thanks for watching!
Sorry to her im going to make one hope its gonna be god
I'm getting ready to use a forge for the first time that I bought off Amazon and I am curious of how long I put my blade in the Forge and how long are the thermal Cycles
Great work man always want to do stuff with files and rasps but always worried the teeth with form cold shuts and cracks
Thanks! I was afraid of the same thing so usually if I'm doing a knife with them I will grind off the teeth on the edge that will become the cutting edge of the blade as well as about a 1/4 inch up the sides, that way I still get the file texture without the worry of cracking. Then I usually do an edge quench. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
@@Mysticmountainforge that's a good way to do it do you usually do oil of water with them
Awesome knife! It would be cool to see some Kydex handle work if you know how. Also what is the beniet of a blacksmith knife?
Thanks, I will look into that. I mainly make blacksmith knives to sell as novelty items, just like RR spikes, people love them. They are a much better steel being closer to 1095, I have also seen them used at western themed restaurants as steak knives. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
What did you quench in? My options at the moment are canola oil and water
I used canola oil for the quench, it worked really well. I appreciate you watching.
G'day mate. Would that be 400 degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius?
It would be Fahrenheit. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
I have about 20 old files ,maybe soon i will have 20 nifes.
that is if i don't stuff any up.
Right on, I really enjoy making these, helps clean up the shop and make a little cash as well! Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
