Roy Scheider was amazing in this. He’s such an underrated actor, deserves way more attention. Now and when he was alive. He had a quality about that made him so enjoyable to watch.

I first saw this movie when I was seventeen, twenty-five years ago. It certainly left an impression then, as it did again tonight. Roy Sheider was a great actor, a real actor. His last line in the movie: "How about that!" could have been said in so many nuanced ways, but, it is an exceptional actor who can deliver so much with those last three words. Wow!.....Baldwin was very good, also. I think if Eric Red, the writer/director, had produced the film with a more seasoned director, it may have been even better? Eric Red also wrote the screenplay for, "The Hitcher": my favourite film. Thanx for the upload Michael, great film.....

In my country "How about that?" has 3 translations (i know 2). First is "Chyba żartujesz" (in english: "You've gotta be kidding"), the second one is "To na mnie już czas" ("So it's time for me" - read: to be gone). The most correct will be "A co powiesz na to?" - "What are You gonna say about that?". See that this boy was still holding his forearm, so after all that game with tittle antiheroes it would mean in the head of the one living so far "What are You gonna say about killing me?". I think that's a good point.

@calo10able Yes. The 1986, original version, with, Rutger Hauer. It was the end of my first year in high-school when I saw it for the first time in, '86. It didn't have a great release on the big screen in Australia; this, possibly due to the film having an (R-18) tag. Although, back then, as a teenager you could almost always walk in to an R-rated film as long as you carried a ticket. Hey, I love (The Hitcher) even more than I do, Cohen and Tate........ Good luck, mate..

And that last line - especially the way , Sheider delivers it , in just those 3 words ; it's like , "I've been a hitman for decades ; I've killed so many people I've lost count - and the one that finally got the better of me is a 9 year old kid -:how about that !"

I'm in my 50s.. I was a fan of Roy from the time I was seven and was fortunate to see many of his films in the theater. Roy was in the same category as all the other big actors who came up in the 70s unfortunately for some reason or another the big studios seemed to cast him aside in the later 80's and he was forced to do lots of B films.
Cohen & Tate was one of those films that had the potential to be a memorable film. The groundwork was there and it had Roy Scheider, but the script itself never really came together. It's one thing to be simplistic but it's another to leave empty space without much meaning.
The sad part for Roy's Legacy is he was a caliber actor and he never really got his final hooray. His last film that he was working on during the final year of his life was called Iron Cross. I was one of a handful of people who actually got to see it when played in a film festival but guess what it never found distribution and will never be released.

One of the great B movies and I mean that in a good way. I was first saw this as a kid late night on cable and have been looking for it ever since. Just a really tight thriller. The mutual loathing between the hit men added a unique layer of tension. It’s a shame Eric Red didn’t have a longer career. FYI I live Oklahoma. Not even close to how protective custody was in the 60s, let alone late 80s post cartel wars. Yes, I know its a movie, but I think it would have been so much better had they started with "the mob shooting" they described at the beginning of the film. Start with him witnessessing it and the FBI getting to the Knights' home to pick them up.
Sometimes thats what makes the movie great, just how unintentionally Fargoesque it is, like a bad B film knock off of Fargo, yet comes off worse than a parody.
"Grab a quick change of clothes and let's go... You got 2 minutes..."
Mrs. Knight, "But... But my pictures, father's ashes... My goddamn wedding photos, who is gonna take care of my mother...."
FBI agent # 2 himself is scared to death, (perhaps too scared based on the current situation and typically the mob would never attack the FBI) grabs her and shakes her, gritting his teeth shouting, "Listen... Listen to me.... These people will kill you, us and your fucking son... You got it? They don't care about you, me, them anybody...." FBI agent # 1 puts an arm between them and shoves FBI agent # 2 back... "George... Cool it. Take a break. We all are a bit on edge. But the mob ain't gonna kill FBI agents, we need to be prepared but these people's lives are upended, they know nothing about this...."
George, lip twitching- as he exhales his breath trembles storms out the room...
FBI agent # 1, Looking at everyone in the room, "It's fine guys. It's fine. Everything is gonna be okay. Relax. Grab your stuff, sure! You know whag??? Grab a few personal affects and we will get the rest, okay ma'am?""
    Now it begins...

Agreed. That was the only drawback of this very dark and twisted film. Baldwin's portrayal of a "crazy killer" was almost cartoonish. Scheider (under-)played his role perfectly, but Baldwin's presence made the film look cheap and amateurish, even by B-movie standards.

Baldwins character Tate is so way over the top it ruins the film to a point. His bloodlust is taken to a comical level. Makes the movie almost a comedy parody of a mob oriented film. Scheider played it as well as he could given the horrible script but at least he played it serious and not over the top. Cross' also wasn't bad with what he was given to work with.

Franchi Spas 12.. It's actually an autoloader or pump. It was actually used in both Terminator films (I only consider 1 & 2 real Terminator films).
In Terminator 1, it's the autoloader version he uses to kill the clerk and then featured predominantly during the police station assault. Some incorrectly think it is in error that the Terminator is using the Spas 12 during the Parking Garage Chase. Rather, he hijacked the police cruiser after being tossed from Reese's car at Tech Noir. He gets the Spas from under the mattress after he self repairs before he raids the PD.
In T2 its in the surveillance photos
