  • What's a Volcanic Bomb!? Kingman Arizona is the HEART of Historic Route 66, with tons of surviving Motels, historic buildings, Wall murals, and other amazing Route 66 wonders. But because of the wonderful 110°F heat, and because of a case of mild heat exhaustion, I thought we'd take a look at Kingman's Route 66 museum AND the Mojave Museum of History and the Arts, which talks about Ghost Towns, Native Americans, and Volcanic Bombs!
    Join me for a tour of Kingman Arizona, Route 66, Old West, and AMERICAN History, on the Mother road!

    Justin, thanks for the opportunity to vicariously wander the world.
    The guy who called you a loser? Dude, stop watching or sit in Justin's passenger seat and enjoy the ride. He actually provides a service. It's like PBS, but more specific and funnier!
    Guys like you and Adam provide us with the opportunity to either see what we might never have the chance to or inspire us to go check it out ourselves.

    Grew up in Tucson lived there for 27 years, I also played shows at the Skrappys, and toured through the southwest ect, I truly miss the road and seeing all this serious nostalgic history. Hoping to move back to Tucson next year in an airstream fulltime.

    The little electric car was sold at least into the early 1980s. My Troop Commander at Fort Knox, KY purchased one new in 1980 and was still driving it (due to it's short range only on Post to and from his quarters and our barracks) in late 1982 when he PCSd to West Point as an instructor there. He took the car with him and I assume he used it for the same purpose, short range commuting, while he was assigned to West Point.

    Some great cars on that lot. From left, a 1941 Oldsmobile, two '41 DeSoto sedans, a '56 Ford F100 pickup, a '66 Mustang notchback and a '57 Chevy sedan. Considering they only want $3500 for the Chevy I'm guessing it's a mid-range 210 model and not a Bel Air.

    • @daveogarf
      @daveogarf 8 лет назад

      Hiram, you're essentially correct. That model is the Sebring-Vanguard Comuta Car, which did have the extra batteries added front and rear for greater range. They were built in Sebring, FL (USA) from 1977 to 1982. There was also a Comuta Van, which was used by the US Post Office for mail delivery. They had all of 6 horsepower, but remember, electric motors have maximum torque from zero RPM. They had a 40-mile range, and a top speed of about 35-40 MPH.

    It's kinda cool seeing this place again, as my early childhood was spent growing up there. My best/worst memory was at the home depot around 1990 there was a shopping cart full of old comics for sale dirt cheap. On top was a copy of Action Comics #1, and I knew even if it was a reprint it was worth money, but my dad didn't believe me. I must of made a big enough scene about it because the next day when my dad decided to let me get it, the whole cart was bought out, and not even a month later a comic shop was opened up in town.
