as far as I saw, the manga is quite different from the anime and even more, the light novel is way splitted from the manga so... better expect something out of the light novel as next rather than manga. the prime example of that is the fact that at the end of season 2, shadow saves Akane same way as episode 1 from so1.... there was no beta there. The anime takes a way different path and that's for the better I think, at least for what regards the manga as I'm not sure about the light novel.
The manga and LN both do the same things story wise, the only things the manga does differently is just the jokes mainly due to the manga focusing more on comedy than anything else

Every time they release the main episode, it follows up by the chibi episode called "Kagejitsu." The clue was given there in the last episode of kagejitsu. The chibi episose was some kind of add-on to what the main episode was. Kind of elaborated on what happend and so on. Most anime watcher overlook this follows up episode.
