Well your down by L & D 1 and I'm up here by L & D 15. When the river is in flood you have much more dangerous conditions. Especially floating trees and logs that are mostly submerged. Going down stream you have to go faster that the river flow to maintain steerage way and that's a little scary. But the commercial traffic pretty much moves along in a straight line and they are easy to maneuver around them. They can't move from port to starboard very easily, so it's up to you to stay out of in front of them. If they see you as a danger, they will whistle you to move.
Yes, we had to watch out for debris in the water, but probably not as bad as it would be in the spring. We had trouble with the barges on the curves. But we made it safely and all good!
Just came across your channel. Nice content and nice to see some of my old home around Chicago. Been years since I was back in Northern Indiana. Thanks....
Nice to revisit my old stomping grounds. I grew up in St. Louis, and spent time in Alton as well. The Great River Road between Alton & Grafton was one of my favorite drives, especially in Autumn . The cliffs overlooking the river on the Illinois side are beautiful, and there is a very popular bike path that runs through the trees along the river. Thanks for sharing!
I just stumbled on your videos. Getting caught up. You passed Herculaneum, you went through my neck of the woods. I'm looking forward to more videos! Thank you for posting. I'm following Michael Steen and Zoffinger who started in Florida.
Great Video, Thanks. You were certainly in with some heavy barge traffic, I know they don't recommend pleasure boats going all the way down to NO on the Mississippi river due to increasing barge traffic the closer you get to the gulf. There was sure a strong current going with you sure better then going against the current, of course once you get on the Ohio you will be fighting it for a bit
Love the videos, plan on doing the loop eventually currently just get to keep the joy of the loop alive being an NYS canal lock operator.
I always loved going through the different locks! Thanks for the Videos!
17:12 What is that?
Love this video! We have great memories when we went down the Mississippi. Looking forward to going there again. 😀
Thank you! She is interesting, that is for sure!
Loving your videos!! Please keep making them! We retire in about 13 years 😒 and this is what we are going to do!!! So exciting!

Welcome aboard!
Great information about lock protocol!
Glad you think so!
Are these locks 24/7 or are there posted times? Great vid. Thanks.
I believe the ones on the Illinois are 24/7

After watching this video, I so want to sand, stain and varnish their wooden railings... :)
LOL! Come on over! We are letting them weather and are starting to sand them down.
video is great as is the content of the video but sound quality in places is horrible
Grafton is a nice town, it's been under water many times tho. I learned to water ski not far from there at the confluence.
Shoot I discovered a bunch more videos. I started watching when you were loading up the trawler
Just imagine going down the Mississippi with the spring floods! I'm guessing this is from last year since if I remember you started late in the year.
Good memory. It was Early Nov 2020
The Great Loop St. Louis
👍
I'll say it again. Ever so often give us a shot of your GPS/Chart Plotter, zoomed in and out so we can see where you are.
These were from last fall.
