I name-dropped him to a couple I once knew who came from Arizona and their eyes widened a bit (we're in Seattle now) that I knew who he was, and that he was one scary fascist.

As someone who grew up in Arizona, most of the country doesn't realize what a monster Arpaio is. This guy ran the sheriff department like an SS officer, and inspired a lot of states to do the same. Even now public opinion is disturbingly supportive.
I came into this episode thinking I already knew a lot about Joe Arpaio compared to most topics on this show. I wasn't prepared to hear about child chain gangs, which, to be fair, I probably should have been.
I had to experience Tent City for a failure to pay a fine....didnt pay the fine because I had no money. Joe tried to charge me rent and expenses, which also went unpaid. I lucked out and my stay in the tents was in March, and after 3 weeks served, my ticket went away. The ladmo bags were all "first pick of food donations to the food banks" But that was only lunch. Both breakfast and dinner were hot meals...of sorts.
I think you guys should do an Elvis episode because Disney told me he was a "model citizen" when I was twelve and I don't think they should get away with that
Is this a new episode? Or loading up an old one from the podcast, its been confusing the past few weeks since stitcher got deleted Edit: just read the description, original air date in August 2021. My bad for talking before looking and reading. I'll say it was my inner American coming out
@@Cerise4697 yeah I saw that and it helps, I just acted like a typical American and commented before reading. There's just no way I'm gonna catch up on all six hundred plus episodes X.X
wait, we do have rockets that land vertically. I did have to check the date of the recording, but we had them then too. and glendbrook wasn't far off. I know we didn't really have them when trump was elected, but they've got that tech pretty reliable.
This just kind of proves what I've been saying. If you want a-holes who are horrible on immigrants just hire another child of an immigrant. Exhibit A: Joe Arpaio. Exhibit B: Suella Braverman.
Maybe it’s just cause that’s never been a part of his persona I cared about in the first place (like so you’ve thrown down. Cool. Whatever. You’re a politician. It ain’t got shit to do with your job unless you’re voting on a war), but for all I hate Joe and knew I’d be learning more about him that I’d hate, I confess I wasn’t expecting this to involve so much stolen valor? Like no wonder he gets along with Steven Segal, I guess, they’ve both made such a point to lie about all the combat they’ve seen. Like Segal was an action star and thus that bullshit image was crucial to his career though, with Arpaio it just feels… confusing. Like why throw your political opponents softballs like that? I gotta guess it’s what Robert speculated, that it’s maybe less about impressing others as HE needs to feel like his life is more exciting than it is and is pretty proficient in buying his own hype. Like between this and not only really skirting the full truth of “my father came here legally” with us, but how devoid he is of the sympathy for refugees that SHOULD have given him, and the fact he landed himself in jail rather than pump the brakes, I’m now wondering if he’s a pathological liar and loses track of reality when he repeats lies long enough
This helps put my grandpa into perspective: he was always a bitter man who kept talking about how the draft made him strong until one day my grandmother, sick of the same story, pierced his bullshit: "You are the only man I've seen come back from the war 60 pounds heavier, the only thing you saw there was the kitchen, where you cooked while others fought". Insecure little bastards.
thank you for covering arpaio. i dont think people outside of arizona realize just how scared everyone was during his reign of terror
I name-dropped him to a couple I once knew who came from Arizona and their eyes widened a bit (we're in Seattle now) that I knew who he was, and that he was one scary fascist.
I know only of how he inhumanely even or usstndard he runsprison and he is the worst already
I remember in the Phoenix boy scouts tent city was like an urban legend.

"Who brags about not doing dishes?" Matt Walsh and his company, for starters. And oh look, they all think Arpaio is a cool dude.

"What do you know about Joe Arpaio?"
"Too much."
Because knowing anything about Joe Arpaio is too much.
unless you're trying to figure out how to avoid him
Intro should have been “What’s campin’ my concentrates?”
If you learn nothing else from this ep, please everyone take to heart the message of "don't explode pregnant ladies; it's bad for them."
What an opening, Jesus. 10 outta 10.
I've never wanted someone to be confined to a small cage in a desert like Joe Arpaio.
Make sure he gets the weather channel

Keep in mind he had no shortage of sycophant deputies just as sociopathic as he is, and they are still out there.

"Getting into gunfights on Turkish mountains!" Maybe he was the inspiration of the Turkish Rambo movie, Rampage!?/s
So the UK version of UK politicians being weirdly unable to drink beer is politicians awkwardly holding guns.
US version, even. My kingdom for an edit button.
or Australian politicians eating food in bizarre ways
I’m a fascist and our fascist president copied my flavour of American fascism isn’t the cool brag he thinks it is.

Hopefully I hear that Joe caught charges ...
Oh that's a story I'm sure we'll hear all about in Part Two.
If that was reality tv, the show would have been called "Who Wants to be a Citizen" :D

I hate when I do that lol
The ones labeled "Just the Classics" are older episodes, the newest episodes are just labeled "Behind the Bastards", if that helps!

My former sheriff.
It feels like Arizona is a foreign country.
Was Joe the inspiration for "Human Centipede 3?"
Lyin' Joe
Wow! I knew Arpio was terrible and that he had framed a disabled person as a publicity stunt and I assumed that would be the peak of scumbaggery 😂
