    Two tips for you, 1. I shoot a small can of die in the system 90% of the time, those leak detectors are not as reliable as your eyes, there too sensitive or not sensitive enough. 2. Use a LED Strip (across the forhead) head lamp (cheap as chips on Amazon) they don't stick out so there not in the way in tight quarters, there rechargable but the rechargable batteries don't last long so I (plug) charge them As I'm using the head lamp by plugging the head lamp to a small power bank that fits into a belt cell phone holder via a micro USB 90 degree (end) from the back of the head to the USB on the power bank on my belt. That way the lamp is on high all day. Keep up the good work

    If you have pulled a vacuum on the system. Then there will be no Freon to detect! If you pull a vacuum and it holds that level then there is no leak! Could be a bad compressor or the expansion valve

    • @WillFixThat
      @WillFixThat  Год назад

      Right on! We did the leak detection before we pulled the vacuum. Thanks for sharing 👍

    At the end of last season (2023) my 23 year old air conditioner unit on my SeaRay stopped working. The tech amped it out and said the compressor was drawing too many amps and it was blowing the circuit breaker. I figured after 23 years of use it deserved a rest so this spring (2024) we will be installing a new unit.

      Wow you are lucky 23 yrs is amazing for an air conditioning unit!

    I would suspect an internal leak. Can you put a dye in the low side and see if it shows up on the high side?

      Thanks for the question Roy! Suspecting salt water condensing coil has a small leak we will have to shut down the system and remove the hoses for the condensing coil then take rubber gloves and tape on to the inlet and outlet of the coil. Then check back to see if the gloves have blown up like a balloon.

    Leak from the line set or possibly exchanger

    • @WillFixThat
      @WillFixThat  Год назад

      Could be either … so far since leaving the yacht last week it’s still cold! 😁

    It seems like it would be easy to find a leak on a boat. Submerge the whole thing and follow the bubbles.

      Some days Matt prolly wishes we could do that... we are managing boat chaos here 😁

    I know absolutely nothing about working on hvac equipment. I just have to call the man when it breaks.

      Yeah sometimes it’s best to call the pro’s like we just had plumbers come unplug a sink so Matt didn’t have to deal with it! Easier, faster and less stress! 👍

    Why did you believe it was a leak after multiple inspections?
    Wouldn't no loss of refrigerant suggest otherwise?

    • @WillFixThat

      It was shutting down on low pressure!

    Can the pressure switch be removed with discharging the freon?

    Dielectric grease insulates, it does not conduct…. Yes the grease may help prevent corrosion, but I’m not sure your logic is solid.

    The usual suspects king valve packing nuts and every flare fitting and tees. Ive only used leak sealer on evaporator leaks to buy more time till replacement

      I agree, but have had good success with leak stop.
