Born and raised in Chicago the BIG city! But coming to the small towns of Champaign and visiting surrounding towns like Peoria, Paris, Newman, Tuscola, I give much respect to the farmers and the hard working people of the southern rural areas! Peaceful and beautiful as the corn speaks to your heart and the sun rays on your face and the stars light up the night skies! I will always love Chicago but these rural towns have won my heart! Met my beautiful husband here! ❤️
Illinois has its problems, as does every state, but I am proud to be born, bred, and raised Illinois! Listening to this as I traverse the Double Nickel on my way to Springfield for a bicentennial event to celebrate our great state's 200th birthday. God bless the land of Grant, Lincoln & Logan!
I wasn't there for that event I wish I would have been I really should have been however I'm going home the place I've been lonely for for a very long time
My name is joey clearwater i was born in urbana grew up in paris most of my whole life until in 1997 i moved to marshall illinois moved back to paris illinois in 2002
Lived my entire life until age 18 in Paris, Illinois! Brett's dad was my mom's boss for many years at Citizens Bank. It's always fun to take my family back there every few years as I now live in Buffalo, NY. My kids love Rural King, Twin Lakes, Monical's and Joe's pizza, and just the small town feel! I always talked about never wanting to come back there but every time I go back there, it's like my batteries get re-charged! PHS Class of 1988!
Grew up in Paris till I was 8 then moved to Effingham. Gives me chills on the views of paris. I've driven by all of it many times. Everyone in Paris is proud of Brett, especially all of my family that knew him and his parents. We still remember him performing in the plays at the high school, especially as Danny in Grease.
This song was already great but it takes its meaning/understanding to an entire new level to you personally once you've traveled through Illinois at least once. When he said "where the corn grows In rows and rows of summer greens and winter snows and it goes on." It's just I know what he's talking about now because I've seen it. The last and only other time I've traveled through Illinois was the other holiday season and everything was covered in snow so there was no crops but now since it's Summer there is. So I've seen the snow, I've seen the corn for miles and miles and it just takes this song to another level. Hearing it is one thing but experiencing it and then hearing this song is another.
I've been all over the place due to my dad being in the military but four years after he retired my mom decided to come back here. So we moved here and have been in Illinois for almost 4 years and I fell in love with the town immediately.
Even though I left my small Illinois town for Houston Texas it still has my heart. Town of 1000 people nothing compares. Hated it growing up but missing it as an adult
I can relate. I've lived in Illinois all my life and hated my hometown. I still live in Illinois, but I moved away from my hometown. I'd have no problem moving back to it now that I'm grown.
Brett and Cody, I literally cried watching this as my pride came through for our town and you, Brett! From a glimpse of the new school to our beautiful old building and many things that are a part of your life and family history in this town, it really does capture your roots in Paris. Thank you! Hugs to you all!! :)
Born in Decatur and raised in Argenta-Oreana... seeing this video while based in Louisiana makes me tear up every time. Miss my home state like crazy! Thanks Brett for an amazing tribute to our home!
Raised in Paris and still living here today. I can honestly say that Paris has changed a lot just in my life alone which is only 18 years. Even though our town has somewhat of a bad reputation for drugs and probably most teen pregnancies, I will always love Paris and all of the history that comes with our little town. Brett makes all of us proud and he proved to everyone that if you have a dream then pursue it and never give up.
This show's the true side of Illinois and not what Chicago make's Illinois out to be.Their is more to the state then Chicago and to see a video of Paris is a nice reminder of what the state really is.I use to live about an hour North of Paris in Danville,Illinois.
I drove the entire state down Route 39 or U.S. 51 many times during my 4 years of college in Carbondale. Illinois is the most ignored state for songs, but So. Ill. is part of the south, just like its corn fields define the midwest. Loved to travel through the state.
I may not have been born and raised in Illinois, but coming from a small, rual town in Ohio to moving to Boston. I miss the smell of farming, the livestock, the quiet. I would do anything to go back.
I love that Brett is from Illinois. That is where I was born, and raised (Forsyth Illinois, north of Decatur). We had family in Sullivan, and my Dad would take back road, driving through Paris.
1:56 am I wish I could remember the love shared by my parents for each other. So I can feel the love they lost that I missed. Sunday drive is like a good time I will never have , I can only dream of. Thank you Brett Eldredge.
crazy, how Illinois and Texas, almost a thousand miles apart, and yet we're all so close to the same. great to hear a song that I can relate to. heart of the heartland. yeah. Love from your southern cousins!!
This whole comment section sucks. This song is so full of love for this state, and all I see is country folk hating the big city. Why can't we just celebrate everything thats great about Illinois? Chicago is awesome, so are these wide open fields and rolling plains. The bison and the bobcats, the corn and beans, old barns and tall towers, a day at Wrigley field with chicago style hot dogs and pizza, Shed Aquarium, Giordano's, bonfires, camping, the Mississippi river, I love it all. I don't get why country people hate the city so much. Don't you think the people there love their city just the way you love your small town? We're all just people, no reason to give hate to each other.
There's nothing awesome about Chicago. Chicago is run by nutjob politicians (Democrat and RINO alike) who are the root of all the problems in Chicago, and then they dump it all on us Southern Illinoisians to pay for them. All our statewide politicians come from Chicago and the Collar Counties and they only care about the Chicago area. As a Southern Illinoisian, voting in statewide elections are pointless because the Chicago Democrats win in landslides every time.
Born & raised in Robinson, IL. Spent most of my life in Illinois and for the last 10+ years I have lived in Paris, IL. I can't think of a better place to be. Thank you, Brett for the great music and videos of our town.
I wish I felt this way about the places I've lived but I have yet to find a place that feels like home. I live in Long Island, NY but love the open roads of the country life. One day I hope to find the home where God wants me to be. May God bless all of you who take pride in your town and help your neighbors. In this part of New York, it's rare many people know their neighbors. Very sad.
Born and raised in a farm house over 100 years old, on the outskirts of a small town in IL. Never moved from this beautiful house. My parents have lived here 23 out of the 25 years. ❤️ and my dad always liked this house when he was little.
Paris is my hometown and despite the years away, more than 25 now, it's still home. Thank you for this song and these scenes from a place where our roots run deep. In my mind I can hear the rain coming across a cornfield, see the fireworks over Twin Lakes on the 4th of July, smell snow in the wind, and feel the crackle of autumn leaves under foot in the front yard of my childhood home. Yes. Roots do run deep there.
Crystal Lake/Algonquin, IL. Born and raised in IL. And although this is the worst state to live in, it will ALWAYS be where my roots are!! Thank you Brett, for recording this song, and for reminding yourself of where you came from. We are so proud of you, keep doing what you're doing, love you so much!!
Being from Bloomington and having family in Nokomis and Pana and a number of southern Illinois towns this song makes me miss home. I live in Charleston, SC now and have been home quite a few times since I moved here. Nothing beats a small town life. Will take that over a fast paced city any day

This song has a lot of meaning when you live by being born amd raised here in Illinois and near Paris. I've actually been there many times since I live like an hour away from there, in the Danville/Tilton/Westville/Georgetown area. I've been there before Brett got big and famous. The video doesnt really do justice on how small but big Paris, Illinois actually is. It is a nice little town. “I come from the heart of the heart land” i love this part and I’m from Iowa but this song is as Midwest as it gets. Rows and rows of corn, cold winter snows, and summer greens is the most realistic thing about the Midwest
This gives me the chills when I hear this. Small town Illinois, nothing like it.
Me too. And I've never been there

“I come from the heart of the heart land” i love this part and I’m from Iowa but this song is as Midwest as it gets. Rows and rows of corn, cold winter snows, and summer greens is the most realistic thing about the Midwest
Really awesome seeing the place i spend a lot of time at! Love carlyle in the fall. Best time of year on the lake!
I've never been to Illinois. Thanks for sharing it with your awesome song.❤
From Paris Il. Love this song
Back again, what a song beautiful..
