i find the best approach to using Mudbox is to first do a low poly model in another application. Its far faster than trying to start from scratch in mudbox. make sure to build via quads only no triangles, Also do you UVs in that low poly model, then import into mudbox. Here is the tricky part. One of mudbox big shortcomings is its fickle importer. It absolutely hates a number of things within a model that it considers not perfect or clean. so be sure to clean up you model before importing, or correct the issues its concerned about. i know i know it sucks and some of what it asks for doesnt make any sense, BUT.. you will figure it out. After a clean import then your off to the races moreso simply adding the details you want rather than spending a bunch of time building from scratch. lastly when exporting your low poly model, export as both OBJ and FBX. sometimes one will import fine and the other will have issues.
Does the remesh or tessellate tool only work for triangles and not quads? I have a Mudbox model that was imported from Maya, and so it hasquads. I'm concerned about too many polygons, but I want fine details. I plan to take the model to Maya and I don't want to retopologize it, especially since I've already made UV maps.
Finally found this channel with mudbox tutorials 😊 thank you

You must be using a different version because my version on mac, 2022, does not have save as type or I can't find it.
