Gloria has done a great job of keeping her Impala in original shape. She is the envy of every '59 Chevy lover!
:-)
This was when Chevy and GM made the absolute best cars on the planet and it wasn't even close. Harley Earl styling and the beginning of the Chevy big blocks. That car is just beautiful!!
Happy to read "That car is just beautiful!!" :-)
Gloria has an incredible Impala and in my favorite color ! It’s obvious she loves everything about it if she’s had it that long, great car !!
Happy to read you enjoy this "great car !!" :-)
The front end is Sharp as well what a great car not many left always a attention getter looked like a nice day to ride with the top down
Hi Larry, Happy to read you appreciate this "great car" :-) Lou
When this car came out, I was 14. It was quite an eye catcher at the time. Almost as much as a Cadillac. No one had ever seen the sculpted wings before. It was even more dramatic than the 1958. A beautiful time capsule of that wonderful year for automobiles! My folks had just bought a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville Vista Dome flatop 4 door hardtop. Another beautiful car by GM with it's Wide Track, split grill, and twin fins above each tail light. It was an amazing time to grow up. Especially if you were a teenage male !
great story!.. this is my birth year car, and lou recently featured a 1959 caddy too so... it was a huge year for huge fins!😂
@@martinedwards4522 Without question. I was born in '57, and (doing my homework) found out that was the year this car (and all the '59 GM's) were designed!
Hi bbdc1977, Thanks for viewing and sharing your experience, Lou
Fantastic story! Great that she has such a long association with that car. Those bat wings were the most complex metal stampings ever done at that time.m
I remember these on the road. You couldn't mistake one from behind. Now I want to see one in red. I admire this woman for taking such good care of this car. :o)
Yes. Interestingly, some neat RED 1959 Reviews , special 3,4 speed Manuel’s/348, etc…:: Lou, & HAGERTY, “ **Muscle Car of Week””[?]. My neighbor’s , Brother had a Blue/automatic/283 (?! )We drove a lot , errands a lotzj(* to GOLDFINGER MOVIE, @DRIVE IN. ….. etc.
Hi seattlebeard, Happy to read you remember this one :-) Here is that red one for you, Lou ruclips.net/video/KILKPzHdyB0/видео.html
Here is one more. ruclips.net/video/QVxk8xk-WZs/видео.html
Always 5 star videos ! 😀😀😀
High praise :-)
Moms mom drove white 2 door Imapala’s ! She had the 58, 60, and 63. I prefer this to the 60. Very iconic Chevy for real! Gorgeous
Hi Jeffrey, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Grandmothers car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Now that's a beautiful car Lou! The 1959 Chevrolet is my very favorite car from that era! This lady has taken excellent care of that Impala convertible. That car is in pristine condition with a healthy sounding 348 big block V8 engine. She is spot-on correct whenever it comes to the hood emblem. The V with the crossed racing flags means it is equipped with the big block 348 engine, the V without flags means that it is equipped with the small block 283 engine, and no V means that it is equipped with the 235 inline 6-cylinder engine. I happen to notice that it is still equipped with the original generator/power steering pump combo that was discontinued after the 1959 model year. The interior is perfect, and that original ermine white paint job still looks awesome! I can tell that this is Gloria's prized possession, and it definitely shows!
As for this great car of my childhood, one remark to your well-said points, is to consider for the 283 V8 the optional Rochester Fuel Injection, offered by Chevrolet since 1957, then with 283 HP, and 290 HP for 1959. But due to the amount of issues occurred, it is said that only 26 of all 1959 big Chevies were so equipped, from around 1,500 in 1957 and less than 600 in 1958. Therefore the 348 was more reliable with the traditional carburetor and so was prized with the racing flags. In addition, there was a case of incompatibility of the RFI with automatic transmissions, which were deleted for manual ones (3-speed in 57&58, 4-speed in 1959) in the list of optionals.
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car and it's a favorite of yours too :-) Lou
59 the most underrated 50’s Chevy. The metal work for the wings and taillights section was one of the most complex designs to manufacture, so much done by hand.
Hi Chitownron, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you enjoy. Please subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this RUclips Channel, Lou
Lou great job on the story. How amazing that she has managed to keep this car for so many years. When people run into these 58-60 Impalas one of the first things they ask the owner "Does it have a 348?" This car does and the owner pointed out the hood flags that says it has a 348. I never knew this.
Bill, Happy to read you're learning something new from the info on this Channel :-)
Chevrolet script= 6cyl
Script + V = 283
Script + V + flags = 348
I learned that bit of information about the checkered flags back when the cars were new if it just had a chrome V it was a 283 and a lone Chevy emblem meant six cylinder
Thank you so much Lou, for today's feature on THIS particular '59 Impala convertible! It's stunning, and hasn't been ruined with the hideous continental kit, fender skirts and other junk I see on so many '57 Chevy convertibles, unfortunately. I really wish things like that were never options. Gloria, you look very much like another favorite of mine, Michelle Phillips!
Hi Bob, Happy to read you enjoy this 59 Impala :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Very nice. I like the interior color, offsets the white nicely.
Happy to read "Very nice" :-)
The best $1 spent ever! What a great car and it's nice to hear this car has been in her family for quite some time. Thanks for finding and sharing Gloria and her fabulous '59 Impala with us, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp. "The best $1 spent ever!" I think you're right. You're welcome, Lou
Original, unmolested Impala and one of the best ever. So cool. Thanks for video 👍
HI Bruce H., Happy to read "Original, unmolested Impala and one of the best ever. So cool" :-) You're welcome, Lou
When curves and shapes were "a thing", badging meant something and chrome just added to the sunshine! The car is just another member of the family.... and that sound! ... Love the "futuristic" tropical sea foam aqua blue layered interior. What a solid majestic beast !
Hi CDN Citizen, Happy to read you enjoy this "solid majestic beast !" :-) Lou
My favorite year 1959 Impala . Fortunately I have been blessed with a 1964 Impala convertible since 1987.
HEART BEAT OF AMERICA!! ❤
Happy to read "My favorite year 1959 Impala" :-) Glad to read you have a fun car too!
what a great story. You can tell how proud Gloria is of her classic chevy by just the way she talks about it and what great shape it`s in.

Happy to read this is a favorite your for you :-)
Gloria, That is one perfect 59...not over optioned w/ Continental Kits etc. Just as most people would have owned...it's my grail...Beautiful! Thanks..and thanks Lou.
Hi CJ Design, High praise :-) You're welcome, Lou
Gloria's Impala is just fantastic! The story about Dad repairing it for a trip back from California in '71 is just too cool. Doesn't get any better than that! Thanks Lou!
Hi Brian SD, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car and the story too :-) You're welcome, Lou

Beautiful Car, Gloria! Great Story! Thanks Lou.
Hi Paul, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car and enjoy the story too :-) You're welcome, Lou
¡Saludos cordiales, Lou!
Hi Jaime, You're right, car and Caretaker retain there glory :-) Well said, Lou
My favorite U S car of all time. But I prefer the sedan. The styling of this car is simply awesome. ❤
WINNER!
Lou...........an absolutely wonderful car story. God Bless Gloria for her family stories and being such a fantastic caretaker of this family heirloom. Ha........funny memory. When I was a little boy ( circa mid '60's ) , my Uncle drove a '59 El Camino, and for some reason, I thought those vintage cat-eye tail lights were scary looking and the big cat would come alive. Freaked me out everytime. LOL.
Dave, Happy to read you enjoy this "absolutely wonderful car story" :-) Lou
I love 59 in any make, very stylish and unique. Great story too. Thanks Lou, good video!
Hi Gary, Happy to read "I love 59 in any make, very stylish and unique. Great story too" :-) You're welcome, Lou
I never liked the ‘59 back in the day, but I now think that it’s the coolest Chevy ever.
Cars have an amazing way of getting better looking with age.
The original winged warrior Lou. I love these cars 🤗

Love the shadow play off the wings with the car in full profile. Remember how wild the dash was in that year. Great Car!

Great car, great stories, great lady.
:-)
Very nice Impala - quite the classic is right. Gotta love the rapid evolution of car styling during the 1950s and 60s.
This is a glorious Chevy. Thanks Lou and Gloria!
Hi Jeff, You bring up a good point, the 1950's car in a 10 year period never evolved design wise quicker. You're welcome, Lou
One of the most beautiful cars you've had on your channel Lou 😍😍😍😍😍 Thank you!
High praise :-) You're welcome motorTranz!
A very special car with a very special story and a very special lady.

HI Darrell, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Great Car! I love Impala's! Fantastic family history!
:-)
Local classic car show here in Manchester UK took place last Sunday - and there was just one fins 'n' chrome-era vehicle present - which happened to be a '59 Impala!. So when I saw those tailfins on my RUclips screen, I knew instantly what was coming. Great car, great channel - thank you Lou and Gloria.
Hi CreosoteChris, Happy to share the FUN FIN's with you :-) Stay tuned, more will be coming. Tell all your Car Friends about the Channel too. Thanks, Lou
I think it´s one of the most beautiful cars in the world.
High praise for the looks of this car :-)
Thanks for featuring this gorgeous car, Lou. What a sweet survivor of a ride!
My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome Lt. Frank.
I had a '68 Chrysler Newport convertible, gold with black leather and top. I loved that car but the '59 GM cars were something quite special. My favorite model year of all.
Hi Ted, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
An amazing car with an amazing story to go with it. I love to see people still have something they got a long time ago and still have it and use it many years later, and take great care of it and keep it in beautiful shape like Gloria has down with her Impala. You just don't see that much in this day and age . What awesome graduation gift too, I would've been thrilled to get a car like this for a graduation gift or anytime. Great video Lou!
Hi Zach, You're right, this would be a great car to get anytime. Happy to read you enjoy this video :-) Lou
T-Riffic! Wowser! Love the side profile with a hint of the interior color. Also, the difference between wild fins and tail lights to the simple straight bumper. My FIL had a red one, a coupe with no bands on taillights, one of his first cars. Wild times & groovy tunes I bet.
NICE! Thanks for viewing and sharing.
No bands means it was either Bel Air, or Biscayne.
Love her car and story of life with it.
Happy to read "Love her car and story of life with it." :-)
Thanks! We love you Lou for all the great videos you have created over the years.
SUPER THANK YOU Biblio Bill for your SUPER THANKS! Your support is appreciate, Lou
It would be a dream to drive that car on road trip across the country. Thanks Lou.
Hi Randall, LET'S GO! My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
My 1st car was a black Impala convertible with red plad interior. I paid $30 for it in 1968 in NYC. The floor pans were rusted out and the top was shot. I replaced the tires & top and gave it to my brother who customized the grille, replaced the floor pans and then sold it for $250.

Happy to read you enjoy this "sweet" car :-)
Thank you for this. I felt like I was going for a drive in the 1950s. This car is gorgeous.
Happy to read "I felt like I was going for a drive in the 1950s." :-) You're welcome.
What a SWEET 59 and it's story! I love it. I am a 59 Chevy nut also. I have a 59 Bel Air sedan I purchased in 1978 for $75 with 58,000 original miles. It has over 200,000 miles now and I still drive it often. Mine has the 348 also, but mine has a three on the tree.
One thing I did notice, was her starter solenoid click a few times before it cranked, a very common problem on GM cars in that era. A new solenoid will correct that problem, plus a little lube on all the hinges and latches would elevate the creaking when opening the doors, trunk and hood.
Great video, enjoyed it so much I saved it to my favorites.
HI Old Car Alley, Happy to read this video made your "favorites" :-) Lou
@@loucostabile One of the comments on my latest video, was a link to your video..... I pined it to the top of my comments, seeing my video was fooling with my 59 Bel Air..... being the videos are all about long term owners of 59 Chevys is why I put it at the top of my comments.
Beautiful car, it was my mothers favorite! 59 Rag Top ❤
Happy to read "it was my mothers favorite!" :-)
Sweet Impala, I am surprised that the padded dash looks so good. Thank you, Gloria and Lou.
Hi Chris, Happy to read you enjoy this "Sweet Impala" :-) This car seems to have the right Caretaker taking car of this car. My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
We love you Lou ! Thank you for all the great videos you keep cranking out. My neighbors from many years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Burnett, had a 1959 Chevrolet Impala white two door hardtop. On windy days when they were in their car at a standstill, the car would ROCK side to side because of the aerodynamic fins!
Feeling the love Biblio Bill :-) Appreciated. Happy to read this car brings back memories of your neighbors car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
This is identical to my first car I had in 1966. Sure brings back the memories.

That was awesome. Love the W engine chevys. I just came back from Dragway 42 in Ohio and there was a guy Rock Kuenster racing a 59 El camino 409!
409 El Camino sounds fun!
I was nine years old when this car was brand new I wasn’t wild about the fins of the 1959 impala that followed it I liked a lot better which was the car I had when I was at high school was a convertible that my dad had fixed up for me to drive I wished by 60 convertible had the 348 motor that this would had!

@@loucostabile I’m really enjoying this, you have no idea! Big fan of these classics, and Gloria, she’s adorable, this impala has been in such good hands! Thank you Lou!
Aloha from Down-Under Lou, 🤙🏼
I find it rather amusing how IMPALA is often pronounced differently in different parts of America,
like Im-pella.
And as we all know, that the impala is a type of African antelope, where they pronoun it im-parla.
Which is how people pronounce it throughout Europe, Africa, and Australasia.
I've been subscribed to your channel for a few years now, as-well as a few of my friends, and we all really appreciate how you know your stuff, show ALL THE DETAILS that enthusiasts like to know about.

Lou saluda de mi parte a esta orgullosa señora Esta MUY lindo su Impala El famoso cola de libro
Hi Juan, Happy to read you enjoy this "very cute" Impala :-) Lou
Beautiful example and a great story. I like the contrast of the bright sky blue interior and the white paint. It's so hard to imagine back in the 70's, when I was a kid getting into classic cars, that the '58 and '59 Chevy's were criticized and shunned by car guys! Now those year Chevy's often surpass the Tri-Fives in value!
Hi Joseph, Happy to read "Beautiful example and a great story" :-) Lou
criticism led by idiot media including car magazine journalists
My uncle in Bridgeport, WV, had a 59 Chevy in white, though it might have been a biscayne. He called it his “sports car,” had 3 on the tree manual transmission, and no options, as best I remember. This was a long time ago, in the 60s. I think he kept it 11-12 years. It was his second car.
Hi John, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Uncles car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Love that rear end. ( Funny said the same thing to my wife this morning )
Nice :-)
I nornally like the 1960 better as it is so similiar...but just a bit crisper. This one, however, is a beautiful example of a 1959. In the Fall of 1958, reight before this car was introduced, Chevy did a teaser of what was to come...but only showing the tail lights with words that the new Chevy would be debuting shortly. One tail lamp was vertical, the other horizontal. LOVE this car with the white with blue interior, looks realy, really great! LOVE the interior too and the dashboard is laid out nicely too!! If you like Lou's videos as much as I do, please give him a thumbs up and subscribe so we can continued to recieve these great vids!
Hi Brian, Happy to read you enjoy this 1959 :-) I appreciate the kind words on the videos. Lou
