I bought a 2002 1.4 petrol Corolla new and ran for just over 3 years, and 80 odd thousand miles. Then decided to trade for another new Corolla 1.4 D4D. Should never, my 2002 was bulletproof, and replacement gave all sorts of trouble just after 3 years when warranty had just expired.
If u own and drive a toyota, then alway a toyota. I have a 2017avensis and my scond family car it's a toyota corola verso 2007 Bought are amazing solid cars ,that u can true relay on them
Now have a 2010 1.6 TDI Octavia, just spent over 1100 euro on T-belt, water pump, thermostat, alt belt, coolant new brake fluid wheel speed sensor, and hub, new brakes and disc all round, plus engine service. But still only worth 2000 euro trade, if that, so I think it's a keeper, and see if I can get it from 210000km to near 400000km.
I think it is much better looking than the newer corollas, with their ugly sharp lines! This is a classy car, and its reliability is pretty much unmatched. I owned a 2010 VW Tiguan with all the bells and whistles, and in the short time I owned it I must have spent $4000 dollars on it. All these modern cars just have more crap to fail, and they do!

The petrol engines are much stronger than the diesels on Toyotas.
