You should consider:
Moving your TV down to sitting-eye-level;
Adding a large rug in the living room;
Replacing your mirror with a taller (more space-appropriate and functional) mirror.
Louvered Blinds (too control light and privacy).

Great space. I move to Jersey City from Houston this August and the apartment search is rough right now. Any tips? Best areas for young women? Maybe I should find a roommate

You definitely want to be in areas where the Path train is accessible so..
- Exchange place
- Groove Street (great bars and clubs)
- Journal square (i wouldn't recommend because there is too much construction going on)
- Liberty State Park is also a good area. (a little bit away from the path but it's like 3 stops away from the light rail)
I'm not sure about roommates but it all depends on your budget. Overall JC is really safe and very accessible to NYC.
