  • Renting a car online to anywhere outside of the US is full of surprises. The additional fees, the lack of customer service, and language barriers become really frustrating. Even when visiting the Dominican Republic, I speak Spanish, it's a really "fun" experience.
On my last trip, which was during Christmas and New Years' while dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, we Booked through Sixt Car Rental. Usually, we book through Avis or Budget, and it's always a mental preparation when I land. knowing I have to know they're going to charge a DR insurance premium and now pay more.
But this time was different. There was bit of a shock when I was told there's a $6,000 hold but once I saw there were no additional fees, and what I paid online was the final total, I was hooked.
And even better, that car was ready and I was on the road within 15 minutes. #winning.
Please don't forget to subscribe. Peace out!

$6000 dollars 💵. If something happens like a medium scratch they may be able to keep your $6000 dollars to fix and repaint depending on the contract.....

Well compared to the other that when you book online in the USA then when you get there that add another insurance fee that brings your total rental cost up another 30%. Its just a judgement call that depends on where you are going? We are always in Casa De Campo that is private and closed off to general traffic, so it makes more sense.

That’s a ridiculous amount to hold on a credit card. Not worth it in my opinion. Ubers work just fine for me throughout the island.

Yeah. I haven’t tried Uber. I spend most of my time in casa de campo. So no Uber in there. Lol

After reading through these comments you may have just killed business for Sixt in DR 🤣😂

Yeah I know. Lol. But it’s either that option and drive carefully or get taken advantage off from the other places and pay another 40% on top of what you were quoted.

I’m going to Punta Cana in January 2023. Does this also apply to the Sixt in the Punta Cana airport? Any other good car rental places in punta Cana that you recommend?

To be honest. I always use Sixt. So the $5000 deposit in this video was my first time. Since the deposits have been $1500 or less.
Again, what you reserve for online is what you pay at Sixt in punta Cana or Santo Domingo. So they’re my go to. Haven’t used anyone else in a couple of years.

6,000 dollars or 6,000 pesos because I have rented in. The DR before and the most the have ever charge me security 350 dollars

Hey jose. It was $6000 dollars US as a security deposit that was returned. Since I have booked at other airports in DR or got a smaller car and the security deposit was less.
But, there was no additional DR insurance.

I have been booking with Sixt all over America for years and pay for complete 0 financial responsibility. $6,000 hold is crazy and insane so thanks for this info to avoid them in the DR.

What’s up man. Yeah it sounds ridiculous. But the key factor is that you’re not paying any additional fees to the rental itself. I’ve been to Mexico, Costa Rica, and DR and most car rental places don’t honor the price you rented online. That add fees and insurances that are required.
So for me. I’d rather pay a $6000 hold depending on where I’m staying and not pay another $300-$500 in BS fees and still pay some kind of insurance hold anyway. It’s all preference.
But the best part was I was in and out and on the road in 10 minutes.

As much as I have been screwed by rental companies in the DR no way is someone getting $6,000😂

@@yesimjose actually I’ve had enough of getting screwed over in the DR and I will now be going elsewhere.

Sorry to hear man. But it’s like that in a lot of places. I went to Costa Rica and it was the same thing. Increased insurance when you get there and high security deposit no matter what the company. So it is what it is.
      Where to next tho?
