Love hearing that Seymour prime mover burbling away like it's playing with it's turbocharger. Nothing else sounds like either the S-2 or the S-4 ALCo's six cylinder. So many converted to EMD prime movers. When I was a little lad I witnessed the big ALCo century locomotives in mainline service Conrail ex.PRR locos - man that was something to behold! Thick black smoke and shotgun exhaust, so I rarely got to hear and see the switching locomotives especially the ALCo's like this one, that are near and dear to me. Thanks for the great video! Hopefully you can get a cab ride in this engine! And hearing the trickity -trock and burbling sounds that these wonderful locomotives make- that's the only way I can explain that unique sound- lol ! Very appreciated!

I love this place! We were originally going to ride the Belfast and Moosehead Lake, but our tour guide suggested we stayed in Bar Harbor instead and take this Railroad as they were more dedicated to preserving their heritage, and boy, the staff said the exact same thing. The ride was very relaxing, the snacks were delicious, the staff was friendly, we even got to go in the engine shed to see 470 in her restoration, not everyday you get to be allowed to go in a shed to see how much hard work they put into these things. If I return down to Maine, I will most certainly ride with them again and I can't wait to see them extend their track mileage further out in the near future, my father and I agreed that it was the best train trip we could ever have in our lives.

The locomotive on the train plus some of the cars used to be on the Conway Scenic Railroad. Any news on how MEC 470 is comming along?

Nice. Any info on why the passenger cars have horns?

The run requires them to operate with the locomotive at the rear for a couple of segments. This allows them to still blow for crossings without having to stop and protect with a flag man.

My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🚊🚋🛤🚞🚝🚉🚈🚇🚅🚄🚃🚂 they're one of his favorite things in the whole world 🌎. He finds the Downeast Scenic Railroad very interesting and hopes the entire line is restored and used again for both freight and passenger trains. But he does not want that to be wishful thinking he wants it to be a reality! He really likes the Alco s4 and is glad they are restoring a steam locomotive 🚂 to operation and sure hopes they will be finished real soon.
