Since Amazon has scrapped this and it will go dark at the end of the year, is there anything that can be done with it to repurpose it?

Many app asking for location: The reason in this case is that new restrictions on WiFi and Bluetooth scanning require a user to consent for the app to know your location before it can be done. Turns out that you can use Bluetooth and WiFi to accurately enough locate a person under the right conditions, so the mitigation devs came up with is now to scan for Bluetooth and WiFi apps need location, hence the prompt almost every time you set up a new device with a new app which translates to location prompts almost every time.

Thanks a lot for this video ! I think the designers have paid a great deal of attention to design detail !

Well, you were right that it's being discontinued. Do you have any thoughts on how to hack it, maybe a potential USB port that could be used that you didn't note in the video?

Would be interested to know if there’s a way to salvage this device. It’s too bad my kids love it.

@@omidtenor I think I’m going to start breaking it down in the next month or so.

I'm also interested in hacking this. Judging from the teardown in the video, I don't see much that can be done without circuitboard modifications. Maybe something through the port on the bottom?

From everything that I have seen there is absolutely nothing I can do with this yet has anyone found anything productive to do with it?

@@ScottDotDot I'm waiting for someone to say that they've modified the system to keep working or allow it to be repurposed.

@@jasonr2590 I'll regret having completely smashed it if they do. But I would like that.. the hardware was interesting, so it's kind of a shame to let it all languish.

I wonder if HP sold them the design from the AIO PC that had this tech years ago. Might explain the low res of the camera. Wouldn't be surprised if it was even the same bits repackaged.

I am very curious what to do with my device now that it is discontinued - has anyone found a bootloader or way to load other firmware?

All of my grandchildren were using tablets before they were one. The instructional wording are for adults, not the kids.
The value of the Glow projector is it creates a very large screen and play area. It is quite accurate knowing when a spot is "pressed" or not.
As you stated, you had no intention of using it for its purpose, so you can't fully appreciate the real world applications. This is going to allow kids and their family to play and bond in spite of being far apart.
I believe Amazon is losing a lot if money on each unit, but that is their modus operandi. Maybe the Glow will go the way of the Dash Button, but for the next couple of years I see real value being part of my grandchildren's life in a much, much more meaningful way.

Four minutes in. Clearly a piece of crap that should have not been made, ever. What kid is going to be interested past 5 minutes?
I can't help but think this actually dumbs-down the kids who are in the age group this is targeted.
