But I still “get out there and train”. I do my forms without the kicks, and train on the wooden dummy. So yeah, what Ando said about martial arts being a life style is absolutely accurate.
@@blockmasterscott Yeah, I remember seeing comments from you both on my own channel as well as several big martial arts RUclipsr channels like this one :)
There was a sensei I trained with for a while, in his late sixties at the time, over fifty years in the martial arts, who was short and had a slender bone structure, but was still built like a tiny tank. He would throw conditioning exercises into his conditioning exercises so he could condition while he conditioned. For example, while he was doing stretches, he'd hit the wooden dojo floor with his fists to condition his knuckles. While he was doing isometric exercises, he'd hit himself in the abs, legs, etc. to condition himself against strikes. He was already a senior citizen by the time I met him, but his sheer physical resilience was on a level that most people don't achieve at any point in their lives.
I try to use my martial arts training throughout my day as a carpenter. Not in obvious or dangerous ways, but just in the way I use my balance and posture. I find ways to keep myself sharp and it makes it fun. Bonus, I don’t get hurt very much or very badly when things go wrong. Mindfulness is key. Really feeling and being aware of your body and your mind. Great video. Be safe
So true! Being a Veteran with aches/pains I am not supposed to run anymore. So while walking I add kicks/punches, squats, stepping and it really helps my arthritis/mobility. I do yoga before I ride my bike. If people want to stare/smirk, so be it.
I used to practice falling steps, shuffles, etc while walking my dog 😂 I'd switch sides whenever I got too tired, but practicing those movements for 15+ minutes at a time definitely improved my muscle memory and stamina! I certainly received some weird looks however...

Like those guys that stand on their toes every moment that they are up on their feet. They do like 3 hours a day of a isometric calf workout, just by only walking on their toes. Remember that walking on your toes is not as cringe as having small calves.
What a coincidental video. After seeing your last video. Was a good interview. Took a while to get through it, me and some guys got talking about different things, but one thing we all agreed on, was that no matter what age, or physical situation we were in. We were still going to train. We had all been pretty busy this summer with work and holidays, so we started slacking a bit, but once we all got together and got some training in, we all agreed were addicted. It's just a part of us. A lifestyle. Regarding flexibility, you couldn't be more on. So many neglect it and don't do any at home. I won't say any styles or gyms, but changing over to one really made a few of us gasp as to how bad some people have it. They might do a tiny but of stretching at the beggining of class, which is debatable. It was always recommended to us at the old gym that dynamic was what you did to warm up, and than saved the static for after class, since it was known to weaken your muscles and actually increase the chance of injury. Iv definatly been the weird guy somewhere, maybe not doing the crane kick stance in a super market, but if I can adapt something g into combat practice at work, I %100 do it, and iv been caught. Oh have I been caught. The worst was when i was working far up north. No gyms, not even a Karate or tkd school to go bother people to grapple and spar in an open mat session. So I was hungry for a combative workout. This was years ago, don't have to do this extent of travel anymore, but i was a good 8 hours north from the closest major city in the boreal forest here in Central Canada. So I took what supplies I needed and went driving down a secluded one way road that was a hunting trail in the middle of winter at night. So I found a nice clearing after driving for a while. No one was around, had some privacy. So I made a punching bag out of cardboard and duck tape, and hung it from a tree. Flat large sheets of cardboard can create alot of weight quickly, and surprisingly when hung right, doesn't move much. I made some other simple targets to. It started off pretty basic. Just some kick boxing and whatever else on the one hanging target, but than I got creative. I don't know what I was thinking, but I let all that bent up energy out in the strangest of ways, because than came out any tool I had in my suv. And I had many a tool. So like a mad man I was going full blown zombie apocalypse style on these targets. Than, while taking a breather, I thought I heard shuffling in the bushes. So I open up the back seat of my suv and dive head first into it. And quickly close the door and lock it since we all know animals know how to open doors. So I grab a flashlight and do a perimeter check. Don't see anything. I slowly get out after a while. After some yelling and horn honking. I was planning on just taking everything down and going. So i look to see what kind of tacks were around those bushes. I shine the light into them and that's when i see them. Snow hare tracks. These critters are known to freeze still in the winter with their white camo when something unexpected approaches. It probably froze still when I drove up and was frozen the entire time while i destroyed the cardboard target. Than with the break I took, that's when it decided to run. So that was a relief because there was wolves in the area, and I had seen one crossing the road before. These weren't the skinny tall ones people think of. No, I was in Northern Manitoba at the time. These were thick and heavy grey wolves, and they would down a man if able to. So I do not regret diving head first into my suvs back seat. What I do regret is where I parked to do this. It's a hunting trail. The locals love hunting moose. Stopping an entire day's events if they see moose tracks in the snow to go find it. On these trails they have cameras. Turns out the clearing i was in May have been a prime spot to see a curious moose. A few days pass and everything seemed normal in the community. Then, however, it happened. A few people, in one particular familly all couldn't help but start laughing and smiling when they saw me in public. At first I'd just smile back, but when they start laughing uncontrollably, you know somethings up. That's when eventually I was notified. I was embarrassed, but than someone told me that they all understood my situation. If it was just me hitting the targets, it probably wouldn't of been a big deal, but the dive into the suv and than peaking outside the windows is probably what really got them. I have no regrets and would do it again. Not sure if youl catch this comment Ramsey, but I may know of a blonde spiked hair individual that may be wondering if your going to be around the mountain veiw area on your trek northward if you go that way.
