Architect here, also do ID, consulting and historic preservationist. From an architectural standpoint, this house appears to in pretty good condition for a restoration/heritage project. The most expensive things to repair, restore, or replace(woodworking, staircases, cornicing, flooring, etc.) seem to be in pretty great shape. The parts of the house that I can see from the video that are falling apart are all relatively easy, and inexpensive to repair, in comparison to the cost of redoing the parts that seem to be in decent shape. Of course, the caveat here is that I am making these comments based on only what I can see in the video, meaning there could be a lot of problems that weren't shown. I do know quite a few valuable pieces caught my eye, but for the sake of posterity, and the hope that the house will be restored sooner than later, I wont go into detail here about which pieces they were or their exact value. I would say that the section of the home where the clawfoot tub and marble sink were may have been an addition to add plumbing to the house, which may not have initially had it. Instead of tearing up the existing house, it was quite common for people to just add on to homes with new rooms that were built with plumbing. The other thing that I believe, if there are other bathrooms and kitchens in the house that aren't part of the section that is stepped down, and it was more than just added plumbing, I'd make an educated guess that the portion of the house was likely where the help stayed. whoever owned this home had staff consisting of two different groups of people that worked together when the family visited in summers, or allowed other wealthy families to visit when they weren't there, sorta like an old school vrbo/AirBnB amongst the wealthy. Some of the staff lived in the house full time, and likely were able to live in just a small portion of the house just for them. They were there to maintain the home, and it's grounds, so it would be in perfect condition when the owners came for the summer. The other help I mentioned came with the family during summer, were probably the maid, houseman/butler and cook, as well as an assistant to the owner, there to handle his business dealings, and relay messages between the businesses the families owned, and those they left in charge to run them in their absence. Depending on the home's location, I know a few organizations that might be willing to restore this house, whole or in part with funds from the national trust for historic preservation. I'd gladly send it along to the right people if I knew where this home is located, as well as the name of family/businessman that built the home. I really enjoy your videos, and the fact that you do your best to leave no trace when possible.
That house has all the earmarks of being a rental home later in life. It's too disheveled and disrespected by former renters to think it was simply abandoned or left that way by the family. The wood burning stove in the middle of the floor with plywood underneath is a dead giveaway to me.
Kappy, Man were you right or what, this house is staggeringly beautiful. It is almost impossible to believe this place has been left to rot with such remarkable woodworking elements decorating so many walls and spaces. Thank You Kappy for sharing this wonderous place with all of us.
@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 don't apologize...it's no where near an hour and if you don't show certain things then u get complaints from another whole group of people...
Oh Kappy! Oh my goodness! The fireplaces, the hardwoods, the woodwork! Absolutely stunning! I don’t have the words!! Even the antique furniture! This person/persons must have not had any family members. I can’t imagine leaving all this here to rot away. How beautiful. I don’t know how you find these but bless you and all your hard work. Stay safe Kappy!❤️
My thoughts exactly. I guess this is in upstate New York. I wonder about the original builders. What is their name and what company did they own? This house must have some history behind it.
I can not believe all the stuff, it's too bad they let this go, it's a beautiful place left with the back door wide open, how sad that the rats took it over
The craftsmanship is phenomenal in this house. It's rare to see such beauty, and a shame to see it all going to decay and abandonment. Thank you for sharing and preserving such a treasure.
Wow!! This jewel of a house should be restored, not left to rot. I wish I had the money to buy it and restore it. The woodworking craftsmanship is stunning. I even loved the furniture. What a beautiful place.
I can’t believe so many beautiful pieces were left to rot! I am screaming for someone to salvage the beautiful pieces and architecture! Thank you for sharing this beauty!!
There were so many beautiful things in this house: the floors, walls, fireplaces, and trim. But, the best thing about this home is the location. Can you imagine sleeping in one of those bedrooms on the top floor and wKing up with the treetops as your view?
It’s sad, most younger people will never get to see such homes if it weren’t for videos like this. I was fortunate to have owned a home of similar era (although not quite as large. So many details. Real craftsmanship and beautiful materials.
Strange that some of the beds look freshly made and didn’t appear to have dust or debris on them! Even had decorative pillows set up just right. Those stars are some kind of recurring theme. They are inlaid in the walls, floors and even the back deck. Gorgeous woodwork!
Wow. The woodwork in this entire house was a masterclass! I wonder what the significance of the stars was? There was one on the hall wall, the exquisite inlaid one on the main floor, the inlaid one on the deck…. And that first bedroom you saw on the third floor gave me a total 1970s flashback! What a beautiful house. There must be so much value still in all that woodwork! ❤
It may have had something to do with their oil company or it’s logo, or perhaps the family name? Stars have been symbolic of so many different things to people over the centuries. Many old houses have stars on them. The meanings can be as individual as the person who put them there. The way I understand it is when the star is used in practicing magic, the white magic “Pentacle” will have the middle point up and the two “legs or horns” pointing down. Dark magic will point the two points of the star up, like horns and the star becomes a Pentagram.
If it's not going to be saved, it should be selvedged. The woodwork, mantles and floors are beautiful. The shouldn't be left to rot and to be damaged by kids.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Mr Kappy, my mind is blown! I saw the short you did on this place and was hoping it was next. This house had to have been designed by a man. The whole place, with the exception of a few rooms, are masculine. The woodwork! Amazing! This explore in my book has got to be the best place yet! If the owner of this place would sell the furniture pieces alone, he/she would have a mint! Thanks so much Mr Kappy for taking me along!!!!
I love to share these with my Mom who always loved to explore old houses with me when I was a kid . It actually makes my heart ache for these old places. Somebody save them I always think ! Thank you for finding them .

I have been in MANY houses w/you & for some reason this is my favorite! The paneling..can u imagine what their non summer residence looked like? The price tag even back then..😮
What splendor this was in its time! As a pianist, I was saying, "see what the piano sounds like." I wondered what music was there. The bedroom with the black mold, I wondered about the picture. And the lovely rose wallpaper. Awesome tour!

Please someone help this old home and bring it back to its glory before its too late!!! Thank you Kappy for letting us come with you during this tour, I am so sad to see these abandoned places like this one just go to waste, I truly do not understand why people trash these places with so much junk scattered around, does not make any sense at all, and it shows the mentality of some who have no sympathy or cares about their home or someones property.
I'd love to know more about the stars and their significance to the original family. The start at the top of the stairs is SO COOL. That woodwork is amazing. Thanks for giving us eyes into these great old houses.
What a beautiful home, with such exquisite woodwork! The inlaid designs on two floors, I believe, had me at awestruck. I absolutely loved this home, Kappy! Thank you so much for sharing ❤
What a waste of a beautiful house! That wood fireplace and the baseboards, just WOW, it's beautiful!! I cannot believe how much furniture and clothes were left behind. This wood working on the floor was absolutely beautiful as well!! Thank you for sharing this explore, it was awesome!! And Kappy, where is Ruby?? Stay safe and Peace, Kim ~
Hello, Kappy this makes me sad that this beauty has not been kept up and brought back to its beauty I love this old house the workmanship that they did back then without the state-of-the-art tools that they have today is outstanding! Thanks for sharing!
Who just abandons such an amazing house. The wood work alone must be worth thousands. A house like this could not be built in this day and age. Just the walls alone and the antiques. Makes you wonder what happened to the people?
What fabulous home! It would be wonderful if all the items left behind could be refurbished and not left to waste! And all the wood work repurposed. It hurts my heart at the waste. But what a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing 🤗
Man O Man Kappy. Unbelievable!!! The family who built this obviously had MONEY! Just blown away at the details, the fireplaces, staircases, the furniture left behind. I could go on and on. Who were these people and why did they leave. 💔💔💔 Thank you Kappy.
Amazing home. I always love how you look past all of the debris like its not even there and focus on the actual structure, beautiful fire places & mantels, pieces of furniture etc. What a stunning home with so many pieces that could be saved and the woodwork, so sad it might someday just be torn down.
@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773could you please tell us anything about the history of the house. I know you don’t want to disclose the exact location but any information. Perhaps it could be saved?

Hi Kappy, my post will have to be short and sweet this time, as my husband is restless tonight and needful of almost all of my attention. After watching the video a few times, I have come to the conclusion that the lower areas of the house, as well as the living room, baths and kitchen on the first floor, are a whole other house than the larger, more elegant house built against or even attached to it. I really think that lower house is much older, which would account for its sad condition. The upper house was built beside it and perhaps it was used as a guest house, though the complete openness of its bathroom would have to mean that those guests were REALLY friendly with the occupants of the upper house! There was no expense spared on the upper house. Its interior shows high Victorian design at every turn, with lavish decoration just because they could afford it. The woodwork is splendidly extravagant, most notably the parquet installed in the house's floors and walls. Little wonder the owners attempted to prolong the life of the wood-paneled ceiling in that room off the living room. They didn't try to cover it up, Kappy. They were trying to keep it from falling down! I can easily see myself living in this house, after careful removal of the more decrepit lower house, of course. My favorite place in the house is the master bedroom, that beautiful green haven in the trees. Such a peaceful place could soothe the most weary soul and ease any suffering. I could be happy there. The main floor's spacious living area with its console piano and beautiful fireplace would be a wonderful, light-filled space in which to entertain guests and to spend restful hours before the fire. I can imagine my kitties basking in the fire's glow while I relaxed on a comfy sofa with my crochet or a good book. The next room with its own lovely fireplace would become a splendid library, filled with antique books and deep, comfortable chairs placed not too close to the fire. I laughed when you remarked about the number of books which are strewn about in the house. I, too, own hundreds of books, having read the vast majority of them, some more than once. One, the most wonderful Book of all, I have read nearly twenty times. It is my very favorite book and it had taught me many wonderful truths in my life. As it is obvious that all the bathrooms and the kitchen/dining room are quite firmly attached to and possibly providing support to the lower house, it will become necessary to build a newer, more sound addition to the house, but that problem is not insurmountable in nature, I'm sure. Now, all I have to do is win the next big lottery... Thanks, Kappy, for a great explore and a beautiful house. I guess you could call this one "The Tale of Two Houses!" Much love to all from Tennessee!
Wow! What a gorgeous and unique house! I love it! I surely hope it's saved too! Thank you, as always, for sharing, Kappy! I'm looking forward to the next one!
Absolutely stunning woodwork and floors. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that step down portion of the house with the small staircase was once the servants' quarters. Quite another gem you found today Kappy . I do hope it can be saved . BTW the car is a Ford Thunderbird .
I can't believe yet another beauty left to rot like this !! All that beautiful wood and those fireplaces .....and that little half round porch 😳 what a slice of heavy such a sad shame she was and is still so pretty what a waste . Great video as alway's Kappy
Oh boy! What a gorgeous home! Someone could easily pull down that one side that seems to be rotten and it looks like easily renovate the other side with all of that incredible woodwork! What an amazing home that could be!! That level of workmanship will never be seen again, ever. If that house isn’t saved, I do hope someone saves what they can of the woodwork. To lose all of that would be a tragedy. Thanks for another visit to a forgotten treasure Kappy ♥️
Great showing. The rooms thar stepped up and down were servants' quarters. Why it was just left to rot is sad. If I had money, it would be repaired and dedicated to the county. Thank you.
This gorgeous house looks like it was repurposed as a funeral home at one time? The front rooms with the piano plus the attic filled with chairs gives me that impression. Such a beautiful place!!
What an incredible house with the most beautiful wood panelling and floors - it would be so,so sad if this very special piece of Americana is not saved .Is there not some kind of Preservation Society which could take this over before its too far gone? 😢Gill 🇬🇧
Beautiful staircase and woodwork ! I wish you could start exploring at the front door and staircase from the beginning so it would be easier to understand the layout of the home. Great video ❤️
I feel that way too, I’m guessing the entrance might not have been accessible. Kappy , just a suggestion, perhaps consider maybe a “walk around” of the entirety of the outside of the house first, would help us be more orientated / to follow the interior lay-out. Of course I suppose in some cases, accessibility might make that difficult as well. This place was one of my favorites hes posted. At the end, I wondered if the one story building looking attached to the house was a summer kitchen.
Thank you Kappy, for honoring the magesty of these fine creations! May we all do what we can to care for these beauties, even if just by watching and revering the craftsmen and creators.
I love the staircase and that beautiful paneling and and all the beautiful fireplaces. I can't believe all the furniture and the piano. I like that little design in the bedroom floor and I love the four-poster bed. Love your videos Kappy and i been watching for a while. Keep up the awesome work you do with your videos. Have a blessed day 🙏.

It’s such a gorgeous home. Left to deteriorate. You would think that there would be someone who inherited this house. I have noticed that abandoned homes are always left with lots of antiques that no one has claimed. I just can’t get over the fact that nobody wants these beautiful places. It just blows my mind to think that they have to be taken over by nature and just left to decay!!! 😞 😢 thank you so much for taking your time to show us these amazing places!!
That was an extraordinary find!!! Looked like there was a cedar walk through closet in the 3rs floor. Beautiful inlays. Seems surprisingly structurally sound. Loved this! ❤️
Weren’t there photo albums on the living room table in front of the couch? Would have been great to see old photos of the people who were once a part that old house.
I’m an old house enthusiast, and I lived in a Civil War era house as a kid . This place is an architectural gem and I’ll bet anyone with the right knowledge and experience could fix this place and put it on the historic registrar . Cool find, thank you Kappy for another great adventure.
First home... Tv dish on lower roof....and signs of fairly recent residents at one time..and modern appliances (washer/dryer) Beautiful place, indeed!. So sad that it was abandoned and left to rot!!
Wow! What a great house. The woodwork is amazing, I hope that some effort will be made to repurpose it when the time comes. Enormous structure, must have been an expensive build even in the 1930s. Thanks, Kappy
Lovely home and you do a excellent job filming. Looks to me of course other people have been in there rummaging around as people do, but thankfully left the woodwork intact for the most part. But I think there has also been someone that wants to see it restored and did some clean up and staging. It’s satisfying and respectful.

Kappy, this is the first house Ive seen you do that could ACTUALLY be saved. It would take alot of money but it could be done
What a beautiful home, with such exquisite woodwork! The inlaid designs on two floors, I believe, had me at awestruck. I absolutely loved this home, Kappy! Thank you so much for sharing ❤
Much appreciated for the kind words and watching!! :)
Inlaid wood floors are exceptionally nice and beautiful.
Interesting to see what people leave behind. Books and clothes.
I think I will clean out my closets.
She will not be any upcoming videos for a while! Just me for now thanks for watching!! :)
That place is stunning!!!! The furniture, woodwork, just everything! Thanks Kappy!!
Completely agreed! Thank you for watching! :)
Hello, Kappy this makes me sad that this beauty has not been kept up and brought back to its beauty I love this old house the workmanship that they did back then without the state-of-the-art tools that they have today is outstanding! Thanks for sharing!
The woodwork! All of those antique beds! Absolutely beautiful in its decay. Thank you for sharing it!
What a waste! Makes me wonder WHY the owners didn’t try to save this beautiful home! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
Amazing wood details. Grand old house.
Who just abandons such an amazing house. The wood work alone must be worth thousands. A house like this could not be built in this day and age. Just the walls alone and the antiques. Makes you wonder what happened to the people?
You're right this house was really something special!
What fabulous home!
It would be wonderful if all the items left behind could be refurbished and not left to waste! And all the wood work repurposed.
It hurts my heart at the waste. But what a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing 🤗
My thoughts exactly!! They need to be saved! I saw so many pieces, even little things that were very old that could be saved.
Man O Man Kappy. Unbelievable!!!
The family who built this obviously had MONEY! Just blown away at the details, the fireplaces, staircases, the furniture left behind. I could go on and on.
Who were these people and why did they leave. 💔💔💔 Thank you Kappy.
Thank you very much for the kind words and watching!! :)
Man! That is so depressing to see houses like that in such disrepair. You just want to go through and save them all.
Amazing home. I always love how you look past all of the debris like its not even there and focus on the actual structure, beautiful fire places & mantels, pieces of furniture etc.
What a stunning home with so many pieces that could be saved and the woodwork, so sad it might someday just be torn down.
Much appreciated! Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for the kind words and watching!! :)
@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773could you please tell us anything about the history of the house. I know you don’t want to disclose the exact location but any information. Perhaps it could be saved?
Wow this place is amazing ,beautiful 👏 I would live there, love the paneling on the wall the post with flowers around it wow the floors would love to have seen this back in the day ,love the chair on third floor wow again, amazing place ,love love love it. thank you amazing video👏💖🙂
The view from the porch was stunning
I guess you could call this one "The Tale of Two Houses!"
Much love to all from Tennessee!
Wow! What a gorgeous and unique house! I love it! I surely hope it's saved too! Thank you, as always, for sharing, Kappy! I'm looking forward to the next one!
I love everything about this house it so beautiful and little surprise that it's not damaged thanks for showing this kappy great video
What an absolutely amazing old house!!
I love all the woodwork and the staircase in that home. 👍❤️
Absolutely stunning woodwork and floors. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that step down portion of the house with the small staircase was once the servants' quarters. Quite another gem you found today Kappy . I do hope it can be saved . BTW the car is a Ford Thunderbird .
Thank you for the make of the car.
Great observations! Thanks for the car model! I had no clue! Much appreciated for watching!! :)
Thunderbird was made right here in my hometown of lorain Ohio.
beautiful house
Thank you for the history on this old lady she is still beautiful thanks for letting me hang out with you in this video great explore.
I can't believe yet another beauty left to rot like this !! All that beautiful wood and those fireplaces .....and that little half round porch 😳 what a slice of heavy such a sad shame she was and is still so pretty what a waste . Great video as alway's Kappy
Absolutely beautiful! Can you imagine in its heyday! Love all of the woodwork. I never saw wood paneling like this, gorgeous!
What a lovely, interesting old house! Thank you for taking us along!
Absolutely stunning woodwork throughout!
The car was a Ford Thunderbird, maybe early 80's? Thanks for taking us along! Most enjoyable 😊👍
Both beautiful to watch and heartbreaking. Very sad, so much beauty and workmanship left to just rot away, and in such a wonderful setting.
Absolutely stunning home. Always a shame people leave it to rot away. I would so live there. Make it mine. Thansk
Great showing. The rooms thar stepped up and down were servants' quarters. Why it was just left to rot is sad. If I had money, it would be repaired and dedicated to the county. Thank you.
Awesome woodwork throughout. Looks like the house could still be saved.
Love your new closing shots of the moonlit beach and also the fireworks 😊
Thank you Kappy, for honoring the magesty of these fine creations! May we all do what we can to care for these beauties, even if just by watching and revering the craftsmen and creators.
Much appreciated for watching!! :)
I really appreciate that!! Glad you enjoy, thank you very much for watching! :)
Wow this place is a stunner!! Woodwork is amazing! That clown chair with a skirt on it was a little weird 😮! Can u imagine living in this spectacular place! Great find Kappy! Thanx again 4 all ur videos u share with us. Stay safe out there. BTW its a thunder bird 1995ish
This place is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing it with us. The woodwork throughout the house is beautiful. ❤
Thank you very much for watching!! :)
This is my new favorite! It’s absolutely stunning!! Thank you Kappy!!!
Definitely a top 10 for me! Thank you for watching! :)
The house and the land are stunning. Thanks Kappy!
Unbelievable how beautiful the woodwork is
Just viewing this house from the outside, I couldn’t wait to see what’s inside. Thank you Kappy 👍🫶
So stunning and so sad to see such beauty just rotting away. Even some of the furniture is unique and beautiful.
That was an extraordinary find!!! Looked like there was a cedar walk through closet in the 3rs floor. Beautiful inlays. Seems surprisingly structurally sound. Loved this! ❤️
What an amazing place! Thanks Kappy for bringing us along! 💛
Thank you for watching! :)
Weren’t there photo albums on the living room table in front of the couch? Would have been great to see old photos of the people who were once a part that old house.
So sad to see such beautiful places and such artistry rotting away.
I’m an old house enthusiast, and I lived in a Civil War era house as a kid . This place is an architectural gem and I’ll bet anyone with the right knowledge and experience could fix this place and put it on the historic registrar . Cool find, thank you Kappy for another great adventure.
Wow Kappy, what a house! Everything is so beautiful and so sad. Thank you for sharing 💜
That beautiful home is even better with the beautiful scenery surrounding it.
The exquisite woodworking & paneling blew me away. You never see this anymore? What happened to human’s’ creativity & appreciation for these arts?!
One has to wonder when the house was last lived in? Stunning wood work, and so many antiques left behind
Amazing staircase and woodwork!!
Thanks Kappy for bringing us on this tour. Quite amazing woodwork throughout. Great video and be safe out there 👍✌️🇺🇲
Glad you enjoyed! Thank you for the kind words and watching! :)
First home... Tv dish on lower roof....and signs of fairly recent residents at one time..and modern appliances (washer/dryer)
Beautiful place, indeed!.
So sad that it was abandoned and left to rot!!
Wow! What a great house. The woodwork is amazing, I hope that some effort will be made to repurpose it when the time comes. Enormous structure, must have been an expensive build even in the 1930s. Thanks, Kappy
Much appreciated!! Thank you for watching! :)
Lovely home and you do a excellent job filming. Looks to me of course other people have been in there rummaging around as people do, but thankfully left the woodwork intact for the most part. But I think there has also been someone that wants to see it restored and did some clean up and staging. It’s satisfying and respectful.
Kappy, thank you for another great find! As always appreciate your attention to the small details of the beauty of each place. Look forward to seeing your finds on my Saturday night viewings.
What a absolutely beautiful home. What a shame for it to be left to decay.
That's a beautiful house. The stairway and halls are absolutely gorgeous.
