  • When it was first announced that Michael Keaton would be returning to the role of Batman after over 30 years, fan's were instantly excited. Though most were confused by the fact that Michael Keaton's Batman would be making his DCEU debut in 2023's The Flash. Why exactly was this Keatons first shot at jumping back into Batman? And why would it be the last time we ever see Michael Keaton portray the Dark Knight?

Gunn has stated that there is going to be a secondary non-connected universe for things like Pattinson’s The Batman and Phoenix’s Joker and whatnot to exist in.
There’s still some potential that we could see a Beyond movie with Keaton as the elderly Bruce Wayne. I wouldn’t bet on it, but it also isn’t entirely out of the question, either 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was a kid again when I heard that Michael Keaton was gonna be Batman again. He's MY Batman and I'm sure he's the Batman of many others that grew up with Burton and Keaton's Batman. What pisses me off about studios is the massive amount of interference that they do. Sure, Batman and Batman Returns was dark but it was AWESOME! A Dark Masterpiece! I was excited when I heard there was a New Batman movie coming out. There was no internet back in 1994/1995, so I didn't know about the drama that was going on with the next Batman movie. I was 11 yrs old when Batman Forever came out and was like "WTF is this?!" Don't get me wrong, Kilmer is an amazing actor but when you go from Batman Returns to Batman Forever, at my age, you're like "WTF happened?" and then you get Batman and Robin... *Face palm*
Now, we have the The Flash movie... where the studio interfered like a MFer during the production of that movie. I'm not even gonna get into the Snyder Verse. We all know about that mess. Mushchietti's original plans for the movie would've blown everyone away. Why can't studios just let the director create what they originally wanted to create? They hired the director for a reason... Because they believed that that person was perfect for the job but then they want to interfere with that director's vision. DCEU/DCU was interfered with like a MFer and we all suffered for it. We got a subpar if not average movie. Now we James Gunn and that other foo running DC and seeing the stuff they've put out... DC is done. Marvel is slowing dying but it gave us huge blockbusters and I'm not even a Marvel fan.
I actually kinda like Flash movie. It wasn't amazing but it was good. I probably feel that way because I saw Keaton as Batman again. I wish we could've seen what Mushcietti's original vision. Who knows, we might see it in 5 or 10 years from now.

You made one mistake with your video. Keaton's role in Aquaman 2 did make sense AT ONE TIME. According to the original plan, the films were to be released as The Flash (November, 2022), Batgirl, Blue Beetle (both scheduled for MAX) and then Aquaman 2 (December 2022). His cameo for A2 was filmed at the same time as his filming The Flash because they were at adjoining studios in England. Then because of the apparent switcheroo regarding the release of The Flash to June 2023, it was going to make his appearance not make sense so Ben Affleck was brought in for the cameo at the beginning of Aquaman 2. However, things got switched around again and Aquaman 2 would follow The Flash, and it would have Ben at the beginning and Keaton being at the end of the movie (Barry's hijinks time traveling would explain it). HOWEVER, James Gunn hates Keaton's Batman and so we would up with a garbage, joke ending to The Flash and poor James Wan having to slice, dice and reshoot Aquaman 2 numerous times. As a Keaton fan, I can safely say Gunn and Zaslav did him dirty. But you did a great job with this. Cheers!

I felt that, if the Batman Beyond movie didn’t work out, we should have gotten Keaton as Thomas Wayne. This way we get Keaton in a role that is similar (dark, brooding Batman) and different (being Thomas Wayne). That scene in the car in Spiderman: Homecoming showed to me he would be great in this role.

I was just stoked to see Keaton back period lol. Even though he went out like a badass fighting the Kryptonian, some fans were bummed that he died in this movie / timeline, even though he originally did, even with the first two endings with him, no matter what ending we got, he's not dead. When the Flash went back in time, somewhere between the events of Batman Returns and the Batman 89 comic, which is now an official sequel to Returns, that's when the alternate timeline happened. When the Flash went back at the end and almost reset everything, Keaton became fully restored back in his Tim Burton universe and is alive and well. That's why Keaton's not actually dead. That's why in the alternate Flash timeline, you don't see Keaton's 89 comic batsuit in the bat-vault. 89 never happened in this timeline. In the full Burton universe / timeline, Marlon Wayans modifies the Batman Returns suit. In this Flash timeline, obviously young Barry modifies the Batman Returns suit. In a way I feel like he belongs only in the full Burton universe. I personally would have preferred the second ending with Keaton's Batman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, and Superman. Also at first Keaton was only going to appear in this movie like he ended up doing anyways.

It was a great thing to see Michael Keaton all these years later from when I saw him in 1989 the magic that was in that movie theatre in June of 1989 I remember people giving standing ovations at the end of the movie it was truly an experience I’m glad I was able to witness truly sad how Keaton was portrayed in the flash and he is what made the movie we have one of the best current directors and producers making the DCU films I’m not sure what happened with the flash not a terrible movie by any means but the script was very lack luster

Michael Keaton’s Batman/Bruce Wayne is great, and the idea of him coming back is awesome! However, it wasn’t done in a way that felt as satisfying as it could. He came back for The Flash, but it was clearly not the same as Burton’s Batman because it’s not the same world. It didn’t have the same punch that it would have if it was straight up in the Burtonverse, which Batgirl visually looked like it would’ve been taking more inspiration from. A “Batman Beyond” film would’ve been a perfect opportunity to continue his role in Burton’s world.

Correct. The death was scheduled as a plot point for the film, but at the end Ezra moved the can of tomatoes to the higher shelf in the grocery store (as seen in the movie), which would lead to Keaton arriving at the courthouse because that was THE ORIGINAL ending. Ironically, the courthouse scene was actually the first scene filmed for the movie. Instead, we got Mr. Nespresso.

This is a great injustice to millions - perhaps even billions - of Gen-X'ers and Millennials who think BATMAN RETURNS did not wrap things up tidily enough and wanted to see Michael Keaton's Batman in his own story one more time. And almost all of the pieces were in place. Keaton had expressed interest in doing one more film with Tim Burton. Michelle Pfeiffer is still active, and her tragic figure of Selina Kyle/Catwoman deserves some closure. Even Robert Wuhl brought back his Alexander Knox character in a cameo, and would probably be thrilled to bring him back in a more substantial role. The only possible roadblock would be Kim Basinger's recent retreat from public life, but even she might be persuaded to reprise Vicki Vale.
Bottom line: Keaton's Bruce Wayne deserves to pass the torch and die honorably in his own movie. THE FLASH was the perfect chance to set that up. Instead, he died almost unceremoniously and became the setup for a punchline. I cannot express how enraged I was when George Clooney showed up.

You could still have a "Batman Beyond" movie with Michael Keaton in it. In the animated version enough time has gone by for the relationship between Bruce and Terry, the new Batman, to be the main focus in a futuristic Gothem ( think "Blade Runner"). The other heroes and villians could be part of a "whatever heppened to..." scene in this or a future movie. That's a movie I'd like to see.

I really hate network executives sometimes because a lot of the time when a film doesn't work or just is lack luster it's because of meddling from the higher ups. Honestly I enjoyed seeing Keaton again. A few lines didn't really work for me, but it was cool to see him back in the role one more time and to do things that weren't possible back in the 89 film and Returns. But he definitely deserves better. And to have Batman Beyond, a film that so many fans want to happen, be based on the success of Flash is an incredibly stupid business decision. Keaton wasn't the issue with the Flash. Most people I chat with have praised Keaton for his performance. A Batman Beyond movie can still work and be great depending on numerous factors. Such a shame we will never see that or see a completely different version

Correction: The Flash was originally set to release BEFORE Aquaman 2, which is why and how Keaton would’ve had a cameo in Aquaman 2 and a role in Batgirl. But WBD changed up release dates and set Aquaman 2 before The Flash, so Keaton’s cameo was reshot with Affleck for continuity. After Gunn and Safran took over, Aquaman 2’s release date was pushed back to after The Flash again, but both cameos were cut, so neither will be used.

Seeing Michael Keaton's Batman again was my main interest in the Flash movie. I knew it was kinda nuts since it wasn't the main focus of the story, but I didn't care. Really is a shame they won't make a Batman Beyond movie with him. I'd rather see that than this Brave and the Bold movie they got planned. As if I care to see yet another Batman reboot! They really shouldn't be blaming the Flash's failure on Keaton, especially since, again, he wasn't the main focus of the film (even if he was supposed to be a major draw for it). Yeah the movie itself was a mess, but he was still just as great as ever.

Without these two, I would never rewatch this film. With these two thrown into the mix, I will most certainly give it another go every now and then. At least they did Keaton justice in this movie, because he rocked it and was portrayed in a good light with epic and well deserved scenes (and a beautiful soundtrack). Michael Keaton as Batman was awesome. If DC thinks Michael Keaton as Batman won't bring in the crowds, then they learned the wrong lesson. Fans would have showed up to see Keaton in the batsuit if they would have not used him as a bandaid to fix their terrible destruction of the universe they had been trying create this last decade instead of just giving us the Darkseid vs Justice League movie.
There are two great ways they could have used Keaton that fans would have showed up to the movies for. Both seem so fucking obvious that I'm not sure I understand why neither has been done:
1: Batman Beyond. Let's see Keaton training a young Terry to become Batman in a more futuristic setting allowing for a young up and coming nobody actor to be schooled by the old and wise Keaton (possibly strapping on the Batsuit himself to save the unexperienced Terry). Awesome.
2: Give Burton his final movie in his trilogy. Let's see an old and grizzled Bruce Wayne strapping the suit back on for one last foray into the iconic version of Gotham City we seen in the first two Tim Burton movies. Bring back stage sets. Bring back practical affects. I know Keaton is getting older but no one would mind seeing an awesome stunt double in the suit as long as we get Keaton's stellar acting chops and his screen presence.
DC has dropped the ball so hard it has literally sunk to the Earth's core. No one asked for Batgirl and Supergirl being at the center of the DCU.

In an alternate timeline, we got a collaboration between Ridley Scott and Tim Burton for a sci-fi Batman Beyond movie starring Michael Keaton & Michelle Pfeiffer instead of the The Flash/Batgirl.
I still say, it’s not completely impossible in this timeline though, something resembling crisis on infinite earths, may still happen in a shared connected DC universe. And do not forget, there are still the Elseworlds stories. And some great idea, or great Director out there still has the ability to persuade Keaton into reprising the role for possibly something more stripped down, low budget, and more akin to Joker, that could still be an adaptation of Batman Beyond. Keaton’s 72. There’s still a shot to do it sometime in the 2030’s if he’s lucky like Clint Eastwood, and still in good health, to truly portray on old man.
