    I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I had no idea how complicated tutu design could be, and now understand why that is good for both dancer and tutu. Your classes here on RUclips have been so enjoyable, I enrolled in your online program. I am having the time of my life each day! Thank you. I sew for the stage but have just made my first tutu at four days notice. Used a leotard as no time to make the bodice before the filming, only the plate and basque. Will eventually make a matching bodice so found this very helpful information. thank you very much indeed.

    Hey ma'am, how do you maintain proper posture every time you go down on a plie? And what is the proper ballerina posture?

    • @everydayballet
      @everydayballet  3 года назад +1

      These are EXCELLENT questions! I'm actually working on a video that details how to have Ballerina Posture, so definitely look for that in the coming weeks. In the meantime.... In a nutshell, proper posture has to do with core support and a spine that is lightly lengthening upwards without tension in the neck & shoulders. For plié, don't go down into grand plié until/unless you can maintain your posture. It will take time to get the core strength to keep your spine tall as you bend the knees out over the toes. For now, work on mastering demi-plié (which is the most important!), making sure you are hugging in your core and keeping a tall spine every time you bend the knees. And wait until you are stronger to do deeper (grand) pliés. Hope this helps! :-D

    lovely informative video! i've been doing some research for character design and this has been very helpful. speaking of, im curious: why do ballet tutus seldom feature loose or longer sleeves (something like a balloon sleeve)? is it concern about things catching (the same logic about having nothing embellished around the waist), or is it the risk of the fabric hiding the lines of the arms? thanks in advance, if you're able and willing to answer

    • @everydayballet
      @everydayballet  Год назад +1

      Thank you! Actually, you’ve answered your own question! Anything beyond a short “flutter” sleeve increases the possibility of fabric getting caught on a headpiece or partner’s costume. Also, ballet arms are so lovely so showing them is typical. That said, there are some tutu costumes that have long sleeves. Le Corsaire and La Bayadere tutus often have sleeves. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! 🙏🩰💕

    Where do you buy professional tutus. I really want to buy some. Do you have any links or websites?

    • @everydayballet
      @everydayballet  2 года назад

      Professional tutus are usually made by the wardrobe department of a professional ballet company or a costume designer team that is hired to create them. There are tutu makers who specialize in costuming for dance schools that will work with you to create a personalized tutu. Because I have my performance tutus, I haven’t sought these services, but a bit of research should provide several options. Hope this helps! 😊🌸🩰

    Would you tell me, is there any stays in the bodice? What is worn under the tutu? How are they cleaned?

    • @everydayballet
      @everydayballet  Год назад

      Excellent questions! There are sometimes flexible stays in the seams of the bodice, but not in this tutu. We generally wear pink (that match our tights) dance trunks or other colors as needed. The costumes are usually spot-cleaned, sprayed with deodorizing solution, and gently steam-cleaned as needed. Hope this helps! 🤗💗🩰🌸

    • @jennyhunter9346
      @jennyhunter9346 Год назад +1

      Thank-you for those answers. (: The inside of the bodice looks a bit uneven. Is a camisole or bra worn between it to protect the skin? @@everydayballet

    • @everydayballet
      @everydayballet  Год назад

      Generally no camisole is worn, but some dancers may elect to wear an undergarment for support. Most often, it’s just skin under the bodice and dance trunks over tights.

    Can we get fitted online for pointe shoes?
    Am not qualified yet but definitely wanna try
    Thanks for ur time

    • @everydayballet
      @everydayballet  3 года назад

      You'll have to do a bit of research on that... I would imagine that pointe shoe manufacturers are now offering this service because of COVID, but I am not sure. But definitely get permission from your ballet instructor before attempting pointe! It's VERY important to have the correct alignment and strength so as not to get hurt. :-)

    i have heard that ballet can cause lasting injuries to the foot
    is it true if so how bad it usually is?
    can they be prevented?
    thanks
    i really love your videos btw

    • @everydayballet
      @everydayballet  3 года назад +2

      Ballet does not generally cause lasting injury to the feet. ( For instance, I danced at a professional level for 28 years and never had a serious foot injury.) BUT it is very important to engage proper technique to prevent the possibility of injury! For this reason, it is imperative to practice and master the basics before progressing. Sometimes dancers are so excited to advance and/or wear pointe shoes, that they rush into it without having developed the proper strength and alignment. This can cause injury. Also, pointe shoes can cause superficial injuries (blisters, abrasions, bruising) and contribute to irritation of bunions. But generally speaking, proper technique and strength prevent injury. 😊🩰

      This was a custom made tutu from 25 years ago, but there are some tutu makers that will do custom orders. If you do a search, you’ll find them. My recommendation is to see if you can find someone locally, as going in for a fitting is always best. But any good maker will ask for very specific measurements if you cannot get fitted in-person. 😊🌸🩰
