    Fabulous! Thank you even though this is an older video. I watched several, and they all sucked. Nothing but complaining about how bad the jig was, and/or not explaining all the reasons for doing things like spacing, how to space, where to place the boards, etc. I wish I had watched your video first. I bought the jig on clearance the other day, and I am a total beginner. I appreciate your clear and thorough explanations.

    Great vid, very informative on the setup. Just a comment about cutting direction. Seems it depends on the hardness of the wood used whether a right to left or left to right pass is used with these jigs. Such cuts are serial inside cuts which are usually done in a clockwise, or left side to right side motion across the jig. The cutting edge of the bit can't dig into or drag. The dress cut can be done right to left where the chance of grabbing and dragging is nil.

    If I have a lot of drawers of a single size to make, I "mass produce" dovetailed pieces out of 1x12 lumber of appropriate length, then rip to whatever height I need. I can produce several shallow drawers out of one set of four boards.

    Because of the adjustability of the top finger plate assembly be sure to maintain the 3mm clearance each time you place the wood into the jig, otherwise each drawer will be a different size than others and not square.

We have since created another video on our channel about this jig and it may help you out a bit more. Check out ruclips.net/video/cOPwidSk7Dg/видео.html
      Hope it helps! Thanks for watching.

    This jig and the Grizzly jig and the Woodstock jig and the Harbor Freight jig all appear to be the same. You can buy different combs from Grizzly if you want something else than 1/2 dovetails. Harbor Freight manual is crap but you can download the Woodstock jig as a PDF from various sources and it is pretty good. There is a good setup video for the Harbor Freight version on RUclips.

      Could be a quality issue. Best bits (and tools ) as you know are made of quality American or Japanese steel. They stay sharp especially when using the hardwoods. Chinese steel is CARRRAAAP.

I'm trying to follow the manual but reading about it just messes my mind up. Do you know anywhere I can find a video on this? Oh, and one more thing, what do I really do with the router guide? How can I get it to fit with my router? Lots of questions here... thanks a lot!

Upon setting everything up, my pins are too wide for my tails and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've tried raising and lowering the bit, but it doesn't seem to be helping. What am I doing wrong? I can provide some pictures or a short video if that helps. I have several different guides with the jig (1/2, 9/16, 7/16). Thank you for your time, I'm hoping you can help.

      You can order the bit with bearing by going to our dovetail bits page and choosing the DT-143-BQ - www.timbecon.com.au/routing/torquata-jointing-bits/dovetail-jointing-router-bit

    Heighten to tighten and lower to loosen! What are we heightening? I bought one of these jigs, can't get a tight fit, what am I doing wrong?

    • @timbeconaus
      @timbeconaus  8 лет назад

      +Tony bones
      Heighten the router bit (when looking at it pointing up towards the roof) or lower to loosen (in other words move it back into the base of the router). Hope this helps.

    • @jonathaningram7529
      @jonathaningram7529 8 лет назад

      Once you've heightened or loosened the router bit and got a good fit, subsequent new pieces run through the jig will be different to the first correct (since the router bit has changed position)?
      So, is the aim to get the test pieces fitting perfectly and then the combination of both the jig setup and the router bit height should be able to be used at a later date to get the same perfect fit?

    • @timbeconaus
      @timbeconaus  8 лет назад

      That's exactly right - get the first test piece setup with the correct cutting height and then run all work pieces through the jig to get it all to fit together.

    • @jonathaningram7529
      @jonathaningram7529 8 лет назад

      Thanks for that - is there a way to specifically set the router bit height/depth? I mean instead of guessing and adjusting the router bit height based on the test piece, straight up just setting the correct depth.

    • @timbeconaus
      @timbeconaus  8 лет назад

      Not really, I know that customers will use previous samples to set the height of the bit to be correct within a certain margin of error and then will adjust to suit a new specific work piece thickness. The issue is that slight variations in thickness will mean slight variations in the bit height that needs to be set so you still have to run a test piece every time you work with a new height to get it spot on.

    Just cut two pieces of wood at 45 degree angle on the table saw, glue and nail, and there, you have it. this dovetail stuff is to much fooling around.

      mrk107 yes sure....and after a few weeks of using your method the drawer will get apart.
      If you don't know anything about woodworking please be quiet, what you have seen in the video is the strongest joint that you can use

      Miter joint with only glue and a nail lol, very weak jointery. Dovetail is very strong and durable and doesn't need a damn nail

    Wow, this is terrible. Is this the same piece of crap that Harbor Freight sells?
    I'll be buying the Porter Cable jig, which requires a fraction of all the fiddling this thing does with better results.

    Totally inaccurate: about 3 mm . . . And you need 4 hands to adjust but even than it's not sure you've done it right. One more thing: Who makes drawers out of 3/4" stock?! Really?!
    There are infinite better systems on the market than this junk. Choose better than DJ-12!
