- Ep19: Sardy Flight. The Bourgogne Nivernais canal is narrow, shallow and beautiful. Heading south from The Seine means ascending the amazing ladder of 16 locks in 3km. In Burgundy this is probably the most beautiful canal route to take IF your boat and crew can manage it. Sailing to the Mediterranean via French Canals and Rivers takes you and your boat to so many places off the beaten tracks through a forgotten world of slow transport, epic construction and history of notable people. Please join us on our journey of exploration and share our discovery of the unknown. By the way don't try this if the water draft of your boat is deeper than 1.1m, the air draft is higher than 2.6m or length more than 29m because you WON'T GET THROUGH unless you're very determined. P.s. Sheenagh likes to think it really was Aiden Turner who helped us through!

Just finished watching all your videos over the last few weeks please please make more soon so I can come back to my happy place. I hope 🙏 to be making the journey myself in the next couple of years. Of all the videos on RUclips yours are the most informative and enjoyable. Many thanks Steve 😊🤓
Hi Steve, thank you so much for your positive comment which really helps to keep up the editing demand. When you get into the canals please let us know and if you’ve any questions fire them on to Sheenagh 🤣 she’s a tough girl.
Fair winds and stay safe

Ps Ep20 v soon!
Thanks very much! That route looks fantastic. One of my guide books says: "... that route is not covered by this guide since the navigation can pose severe problems for craft of more than 1.0m draught." 😂
Thanks for watching Igor, I guess the author of that guide was in a boat with a deeper draught then!
Stay safe

Hi Allan, it really is beautiful and well worth the effort.

Fantastic scenery! That’s where your lifting keel comes in handy. Sadly my own boats 1.52 metre draught will severely restrict the routes I can take.
You're right Hillary, and they say never follow a Southerly if your keel is fixed! Thanks for watching and commenting.

It is stunning, I have been on it on a hire boat but think I will have to give it a miss when I do my long way down and go Paris - Seine - C. du Loing - C. de Briare - Loire Lateral - C du Centre
Great video. What boat did your friends have?
Hi! Sorry we've taken so long to respond. The boat is a Curtevenne Sport 980. Our friends sold it, went home to Duncan, Victoria, BC and bought a holiday home in Mexico!!!
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy some of our other episodes. I'll be back on editing again v. soon,
Stay safe
