- Today, we metal detect an old Civil War camping area that was frequented by both sides. Yankee and Rebel relics can be found here, one after the other. During this detection, we found some great relics and other artifacts.

I doubt that the toob will allow me to post this, but the Wire on the Tool is called a "Prick" for cleaning the Nipple. I don't understand what the problem is with that, seeing those were and still are technical terms for muzzle loaders?

Chig, that odd grooved minie ball may be a US machine stamped one made for the odd 54 cal 1854 Austrian Lorenz Rifle musket. The union troops often had this gun from local armories and converted them to 58 cal at the early days of the war. CS could have had them the same way. Gun sometimes called Austrian Humbug.
Multi-tool is incredible. Appreciated the view of the bullet showing the rifling.

Hi Chig, JMK FROM THE UK here, just watching you talking about the piece of curry comb, and you saying that people didn't believe you when you said that they existed in civil war times, well I dug in the archives and found that it was first mentioned in the writing of Thomas Tusser in 1573, some agricultural thing I think, but you're right, made my day, stay safe 👍👌

Wow, what a great find!!! My dad was a muzzleloader gunsmith and he built muzzleloader rifles from scratch. The only thing he didn't build on Many of them was the barrels. He would have loved your videos, especially this one!!

Valuable relic, too - wow! Never seen a nicer, more complete one, either...
It's a Pattern 1855 Private's Y Tool for the Enfield rifle. Definitely British import during the war. The knob on the top is the head for an oiler, as the body of the tool is hollowed out to hold gun oil. If the oiler 'head' is flat it is a first model, if it is round it is a 2nd model.

I have found a lot of those hand forged iron pieces with the one threaded end at a circa 1820-1890 site in ontario canada. I hope they have a more interesting use than a farm implement
We use a screw type patch retriever on the ramrod to get patches that get hung up in the barrel.

What's interesting is so many people dig up fired bullets that hit an object. (Most likely trees) While the area is devoid of trees. So sad that we are cutting down trees with reckless abandon.

14:54 - *Congrats* Beau!!! What an amazing find!!! Question: My Friend gave me his Father's unused 'Sears' brand metal detector. When I turn it on it has a constant high pitched beep similar to the pin-pointer. Nothing that I do makes this machine stop screaming. There is nothing metal on the loop, etc. Have you ever heard of this with a metal detector before? Maybe it's broken???
