    Hey mate. Going through a tough time right now and just wanted to share this as I love all your videos and this just hit me with that opening riff. I learned it after watching that last video you put out and to have it at the front of this video just floored me. It was so good to hear.
    I just lost 4 great mates, even greater aviators, and it means so much to still have you here doing what you do so well.
    Thanks again LambChopper, wish we could jam some time.

    I agree with low input of the SC20H. It’s really surprising how this amp takes pedals. I’ve tried MT-2W, Guv’Nor, OMG and Shred Master on the low input, front end. It just works for me wonderfully.

  • @AvnerRosenstein-ULTRA-LXV
    @AvnerRosenstein-ULTRA-LXV Год назад +1

    I've done quite a lot of research myself on this particular tone. This tone is definitely close but is way more akin to his studio sound. His Live sound is a completely different beast and actually quite difficult to achieve. His live speakers were Altec Lansing speakers that are no longer made. They were 100 watts each and were very bright but clean speakers....meaning that little to no distortion was produced from the speakers themselves, which is very difficult to achieve today. It's one of the reasons I think Zakk Wylde uses Electro-voice speakers to get closer to Randy's original sound. Personally I think the Celestion G12T-75 is the closest Celestion to the Altecs. You can get these Altecs made today by the successor company to Altec Lansing but they are expensive and custom made.
    Now my biggest complaint...Randy was heavily into MXR Distortion Plus. He used this boost constantly. It does a particular thing to the signal that most other pedals cannot achieve. Secondly, the volume and gain on this pedal were dimed. He had an intense amount of feedback constantly if his guitar was turned all the way up so he figured out ways to control the noise in real time. He would often turn the volume on his guitar down slightly for Rhythm sounds and then turn it up for leads. He also used a Volume pedal in conjunction with the guitar's volume.
    He had an immense amount of Gain when playing Live when compared to his studio sound. The reason for this was because he couldn't double guitars without a second guitar player so he immulated the dual guitar by having heavy amounts of Gain and a Chorus pedal....which was also always on live. The resulting sound was big...something that you cannot really achieve with lower gain.
    Which leads to something most do not know or realize. I strongly suggest looking up Ozzy Osbourne Live in Cleveland 1981...the original version of the Tribute album essentially. The sound you hear on Tribute was edited heavily after the fact and is not really Randy's sound. Along with the Distortion Plus, he had an MXR Chorus always on live. Tribute nearly removed all traces of it. He did make mistakes on the original live in Cleveland that were miraculously cleaned up with edits.
    I think this was a decent attempt but not quite there. Love your videos, including this one. This comment is really meant for a bit of constructive criticism...Randy's live tone is one of my all time favorites. MXR was reported to be making a signature MXR Distortion Plus that supposedly was to be released this year. His original was obviously modified. You can still get very very close with a stock Dist Plus though.

    • @montevetter5267
      @montevetter5267 Год назад

      I agree …I actuallly think his sound sounded closer with the EQ off …still very close but that chorus on all the time helps,because he doubled and tripled his solo…the guy at The Art of Music has it down pretty close …but this is really good

    Hey LambChopper, love how much effort you put in all your videos. I have a desperate request for you, I love Trivium and I really wanted to ask you to make a tone video for Shogun or Ascendancy (the albums). I've been saving some money for a while and I want to know what to buy specifically to sound like those albums, I have no idea where to look so I come here to ask you to help me out lol. I'm 17 and hitting 9 months on guitar in August, seeing your videos really inspire me to keep playing and I thank you for that :)

    • @LambChopper678
      @LambChopper678  Год назад

      I did a tone video for the crusade but I think ascendancy was a 5150 with a Macon 808 in front while shogun I believe was peavey 6505 for both Corey and Matt. Not sure what OD’s they ran to tighten the front but I’d be guessing Macon 808 or Zakk Wylde with NS-2 or isp decimated gates.
      That’s my guess but if anyone has any better ideas feel free to jump in

      @@LambChopper678 Thanks for replying, If you figure it out please make a video. I was watching one of Matt's videos where he showed his rig in his streaming room. He used a 5150, Box of Doom Isolation Cab with a Celestion G12H-150 Redback speaker, Horizon Devices Precision Drive, and an MXR 6 band EQ. I think that's it but I might have missed something. He played some Ascendancy songs after, to me it sounds amazing but I don't have some crazy ears like you do. You could look at the video if you want so you can see for your self because I was kinda clueless and got lost through out the video (I'm still learning about what all of these pedals do and stuff so I guess it makes sense) lol. The video is titled "Matthew Kiichichaos Heafy - Trivium - Overdrive Pedal Gear Rundown". Hope this will give you a little clue or something.

    Yeah SH6 Distortion captured that tone better than SH4 JB, but JB was not bad either but lacks that bass that Distortion has. You really captured Randy's live tone, and this is best that i have heard.

  • @jeremymiller6933
    @jeremymiller6933 Год назад

    That new overdrive pedal of yours is an impressive find for sure. That's about as close as anyone I have heard get to RR's sound with relatively new gear.
    Just a question, not being a smartass. Since you were going for the "vintage" tone of RR, is that why you picked the JCM 800 SC over the DSL 20? I am pretty curious how the DSL would sound with that setup because it is far more affordable to me.

      @@LambChopper678if you like the G12 T75 you should try the 1936Lead cab from two notes. It sounds exactly like my custom made cab with those speakers. Also aren't the vintage speakers lower wattage? Making them quieter? My G12-T75 2X12 is really loud.

    LAMPCHOP, Get a Variac set to 80-90vac this is what Randy Rhoads did and also get a dummy load set it to 20 ohms which converts 8ohms into 20 ohms this is what EVH did so Randy Rhoads did it also. 6CA7 power tubes in a plexi sound great with a 20 ohm load box with a variac.
