been diagnosed with IBS for about 5 years, completely ruined my life, career choice, life choices and decisions to follow. It disgusts me seeing people say oh ya its quite common and 20% people may have this. The suicide rate would be through the roof i feel like if 20% of the condition was dealing with what I go through. From the digestion issues, pain, diarrhea, constipation, and epic amount of anxiety of being away from a bathroom, and the depression that follows. there's got to be a better answer then diet and meditation, this does nothing.

Oh my god yessss!!!! I have lost multiple jobs because of it. It is so debilitating! It is sickening when people just come out and say oh just eat something or take something. I do not have anxiety the only time i do is when my IBS is flared up really bad and then it becomes a battle with my brain and my gut. I have tried alot of different stuff its wild. i found that gut hypnosis has helped me alot along with CBD oil and weed.

This may not be a "fix" video, but it has been very settling for me and has prompted me to look deeper into what things I can do to try to remedy this very frustrating condition which I have suffered with for over a year. I like Dr Gray's style of delivery of information. He is not uptight about the subject in describing function, anatomy, etc and that is really appreciated. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO!

OMG! Why i just saw this vid (though i subscribed here)? Been seeing docs for the past years but only recently (who was a gen. Med. Doc) told me about IBS. He didnt explain to me further but he said “i think what you have is IBS-constipation”. I didnt see any doc after that. I wanted to see him again for the check up but couldnt get a sched with him (in this country hard to get an appointment with doc in public hospital. Needed to wait like 3-4 months before u get an appointment and not sure if u will have the same doc). And gotcha! I saw this vid and voila! I learned a lot! Everything about IBS! Thank you so much, Dr. James! God bless you and your fam!❤❤❤

Suffering since 2 months.. recovering day by day... Last 3 days completely normal...
    What I followed is..
    1. Elimination gluten and Sugar
    2. Gentle Yoga
    3. Pranayam
    4. 35 mins walk...
Day by day I feel I am improving a little bit..
Dear IBS community, have you ever observed if we are in hurry or if we are supposed to complete any target in time may it be simple cooking or any simple task in time... Due to even simple worry our stomach contracts. And doesn't feel like relax stomach... We have to observe this very carefully,....I think this is the reason.. it starts feeling abnormal,..
For that meditation, stressfree no time bound commitment, slow and peaceful working style.. rhythmic pattern of breathing is very necessary to keep brain gut in sync..
I had this IBS 3 YEARS BACK resolved in 2 months then again 1 year back... Again resolved in 1 month and now since last 2 months... Resolving slowly .. since last 3 days....❤

Thank you for acknowledging that extra fiber doesn't always work. I was told for many years that more fiber and water was the solution to my debilitating IBS-C. I added so much fiber and it didn't make a bit of difference. It wasn't until I used the FODMAP elimination diet that I found my food triggers and improved my situation dramatically. It's not a cure; stress is still a trigger. But I got my life back.

IBS is easily curable through ayurveda(ancient methods for treating various disease in India)
If you want to cure ibs you have to take following medicine for aprox 4-6 month with strict diet and yoga poses but have no idea these medicine is available in your country but you can get these medicine from India if you have any friend or relative
      - Bilvadi churan Or belgiri churan (1tabkespoon after meal morning and after dinner)
      -kutajghanvati(2-2 tablets after meal)
      -chitrakadi vati( " " " ")
-kurtajharista syrup ( 4 tablespoon with equal amount of water two time after meal) it's good to cure loose motion and you can take ishabol instant of this if you have constipation.
I was also suffer from IBS and now iam totally fine

One tip that may help some people is intermittent fasting/one meal a day diet. I have found for me that the longer my bowels have to process the food I eat, and rest afterwards, the less symptomatic I feel. Everyone is different so don’t take my word for it that this will work for you. I’m just sharing my personal experience.

    • @preetigarg3668

Intermittent fasting helps me too. I always eat less than what I am hungry for and distract myself not to think much about food. Not easy to do on daily basis but have to...an IBS sufferer's life is not easy. Your social life gets affected a lot.

I've had ibsd since kindergarten, and I'm turning 65 next week. I was constantly being sent home from school. My mom was chronically constipated and always told me to be glad that I could go, but she didn't understand that the going never stopped. I have found that keeping a food/emotion diary is helpful to spot trends. This is how I learned that chocolate triggered migraines. Still, I haven't found anything helpful for the ibsd. I tend to get dehydrated since I avoid fluids when traveling or knowing I'll be far from a toilet. And, I tend to just not eat. Food hurts, so I avoid it. Then the dr says I'm anorexic, but I'm not and he doesn't get it either. No dr does, so far.

My experience: I've had IBS for at least 20 yrs. Bouts that last from several days to several months.
Having a bad time right now-everything giving me D. Eating soft, low residue foods helping a bit.
I noticed the intensity and symptoms have changed
since I aged...painful gas and nausea. The restroom emergencies are affecting my life.
I believe one mistake I made was when I first noticed mild symptoms I should have addressed it.
No oily food, skins, seeds, chocolate, nuts, onions, peppers, soda, pasta, dairy, heavy food or overeating.
So no fun for me. I believe sugar is a big culprit.
I struggle to cut it out of my diet.
Last bout I ate poached fish and apple sauce until I healed.
Anyway, thank you Doctor and good health to all!

Great presentation! However, it is important to remind patients that IBS is not a single disease. It is a collection of symptoms that may have various root causes and that will guide how it should be treated. I.e., post-infectious IBS vs. overuse of antibiotics vs. secondary to an autoimmune disease or fibromyalgia vs. motility disorders vs. microbiome driven imbalances that produce symptoms (SIBO/IMO or just dysbiosis), etc. Furthermore, it is known that approximately 80% of IBS patients have SIBO due to a faulty ileocecal valve (backwash of colon microbes into the small intestine).

Just because "it doesn't turn in to anything" doesn't mean it isn't just as destructive. Treatments may have become extensive, but they have not become effective. Too many doctors are simply prescribing anti spasmodics and telling people to eat or take fiber supplements and this does not get people back onto a healthy path. I fail to understand how people who lose 30-40 pounds and walk around weighing 85 pounds or less are not immediately admitted to a hospital for supplemental nutrition, but they are not, they are sent home to suffer on their own or along with the families trying to take care of them. Can you imagine feeling that you have no hope, no healthy food options and being so low of energy that you couldn't help yourself if you wanted to? Can you imagine the fear of whether or not you would come out of this situation? This is what happens when doctors don't take this "syndrome" seriously. I'm on year 16 trying to help a loved one figure this thing out. Every city needs an IBS clinic and nutritionists, as well as gastro's who are well versed in the business of IBS that can be on call 24/7 for people.

My theory is that more women have IBS than men is that our bowels, like children are more delicate and sensitive to foods which contain toxins from pesticides, sugar which is in 'everything, glyphosate. There was no bowel problems in my childhood days but many children have problems with their bowels, such as my grandchild. I've had IBS for over 30 years and I've always ate healthily. Nothing I received from doctors have helped me. Codeine helped with pain but constipation.

This was useful. I did got to the doctor earlier and all she said that I should just avoid dairy. I didn't understand why she just wanted me to diagnose myself. She didn't bother to send off for any blood tests. I don't understand why she just assumed that I should self diagnose myself. I have relations who are Jewish and I have an aunt who had bowel cancer. However, I think it is Lactose intolerant mainly but I am getting so much pain if I accidently eat something 'wrong' and I have had extremely painful cramps and sweating/fever. One time it was so bad I was told to go to hospital but I had no car to get there at night. I had it today, but with the sweating and fever it makes me feel afraid I will die of pain, even though IBS isn't supposed to be life threatening. I am going to the doctor in 2 weeks time and I hope that I can get some kind of test or medications if I have sudden cramps.

With first-hand experience, I can tell you the theory of hypersensitivity is wrong.
But the link between IBS and fibromyalgia is interesting, because the same things that may cause fibromyalgia can cause IBS. One example is oxalate-rich food. If you’re sensitive to oxalates and eat much of food rich in them you may experience both IBS and fibromyalgia. Examples: spinach, potatos, rice, kiwis. Ditto for lectin-rich food, like grains and legumes. The problem is not hypersensitivity, but low capability to get rid of the toxins of these foods.

I have no plan or escape route to a bathroom', something I've said to myself 1000's of times and often feel like it can trigger it. I carry toilet roll and spare underwear in my car as a sort of insrance plan. I've never needed to use it, but it sort of ties in with your point. There is help but you have to keep going.there is a hugh part of the population that have motility disorders.
