I used to roll with Tony when we were both blue belts in the instructor program at the Gracie Academy in '98-'99. Great flow, super relaxed, a fraction of a move ahead of you all the time and it always added up. Funny to think that he's the same age in this video that I was back then.
Great job Mr. Pacenski. It is an honor to watch your video and get more insight into BJJ. I have been training for about 2 years, 38 years old - White belt with 4 stripes.
I love this idea about the "first" move. It opens the possibility of not needing to stack your technique as deep (which you want to do, don't get me wrong) And at the same time, it makes the depth of your opponent's game less relevant. If you can combine that with an old school flow when necessary, it sounds like the perfect game.
Great job ... the jiujitsu is a way of life, and to understand the essencial have to be a depeer and continuons analisys... open mind, a life of teory and pratice!
Excellent documentary. I really appreciated how humble you are, Tony. And man, what a dream to be able to pass time with the legend Rickson, who is so much more spiritual than other fighters. The only one who comes close is Marcelo Garcia, who also seems spiritually connected with all of his movements. I have to ask, as you look so young to be celebrating a 20th anniversary, how old are you?
25:00 Most experienced people never use that entry when they have that right hand grip over the waist. We almost never see Judo players throw people with that grip. But then again, we almost never see O goshi in high level competitions. 25:11 Could have just done Uke goshi instead of O goshi and still have balance and leverage.
This documentary was amazing. So cool too see you got insight from Rickson Gracie. Im from NJ so it was fun too watch this and see where you were traveling around the east coast. I wish you can post more seminars. The ones in the doc. were great but some were cut off alittle too early It seems if i look up some of your work it was pre Rickson Jiu Jitsu lol Nothing really after you were under Rickson's wing
Hello! Prof. Tony Pacenski from Trevose PA., I say that because I am from Southampton, a neighbor. One question: how does fighting help with everyday humility with the public in general?
The invisible force is pertaining to the motion, or natural proportions to the body. each force remains. This is used productively teaching handedness, as well a general fact to tell about the body.
Hey can i please know the name of the song you have playing from 4min to 7 mins i love reggae as well and its epic dub and i really gotta know the name thanks great vid by the way, i love the whole concept of Chi coming into BJJ and being called invisible force or whatever its called its very nice ive been practicing bjj under Rob Kahn's group for a year myself now almost a blue belt and Rickson is one of my BJJ heroes. Thanks.
Awesome video dude, it was really cool. p.s When you brought up 'cupcaking', I thought you were talking to pedro sauer about rubbing your hand into someones face after farting in it...
Why did you enlist? I'm a 13 year AF vet and jiu jitsu purple belt stationed at Ramstein. Seems like you could have went in as an officer. Just curious. Thanks
This could use some editing, the kitchen interviews have really slow pacing and are full of "ums" and extraneous information. We also don't need to see your driving/fueling scenes, a dash of b-roll goes a long way. Oss.
you made some comments elsewhere that bjj is good for self defence. howtf can getting your pubes waxed out help with self defence(after all,a "brazillian" is nothing more than an intimate waxing) further- howtf is your spirts grappling system good at self defence???? any real self defence teachers always say to avoid tge groundcat all costs but you prefer to go to ground. how can being on the ground with 5-6 guys over you be a good situation?

Make blue?
That sweep from the bottom half guard was sick at the beginning of the video. All technique. Much respect.
Was it the elevator sweep

Some really deep knowledge being shared in this video. Thanks for posting!

Trained with Rickson last summer at Kron's academy. Rickson was such a great dude. So glad to get the opportunity.
