I’m from India. I recently bought this motorcycle and this bike puts a smile on my face every time when I ride it. It’s punchy and most of the torque gets delivered at 2000 rpm making it unbeatable in Indian roads. The road presence is amazing and everyone looks at my motorcycle in the traffic. The dual exhaust system attracts everyone in Indian roads.

Does it feel heavy taking it off the kick stand? I compared Continental GT 650 and Triumph T100 and the latter felt lot lighter, even though it has more mass. I guess the CG is quite low in comparison. Would love to get your thoughts on low speed maneuverability.

    • @prasanna5537

Yes it is heavy to take from stand. But over time you get used to it

I just bought RE Interceptor 650 today. I also have a 22 Africa twin DCT Adventure. But I wanted a retro bike. The RE is a great bike for the $$$$. After 50+ motorcycles I haven't had one that is perfect for me without a few modifications. I'm going to try to leave the RE alone and ride it stock except for maybe a windshield.

@@acnorea123 The first time I took it down from the center stand, my Interceptor went straight to the asphalt. Quite embarrassing, even more so since I needed help to bring it back upright. I quickly learned to respect the weight, and a little less quickly learned how to handle it.

I’ve made a mistake on the service intervals. The regular service interval should be every 6,000 miles, not the 10,000 miles stated in the video. I forgot to convert it from 10,000 km to miles. My apologies everyone.

I've had mine since 2019 (ordered it, weren't in the dealers yet) and love it!
I've made a few subtle changes both mechanical and cosmetic.
Swapped out the mufflers for Indian made AEWs (sound great and quite a bit of weight savings), DNA air filter, booster plug (improves fueling) and YSS suspension upgrades (fork and shocks), really transformed the bike!
For cosmetic changes, swapped out the turn signal with some genuine Lucas units, adjustable levers, fluted glass headlamp, Napleon bar end mirrors and an RE fly screen....the bike looks truly vintage now and I constantly get asked about "the restoration".
I did make one "modern" concession, I replaced the seat with a Corbin, the original and touring versions We're agonizing on longer rides!
I've been riding for close to 50yrs and own a few other bikes as well so, this bike isn't just appealing to beginner riders.
I look at it as a blank canvas to make it "yours"....not done yet!
    Congrats and enjoy!
    Be safe!

    • @hansoor8719
      @hansoor8719 2 года назад +1

@@iamalexsun It took a lot of internal debate (talking to myself) to convince myself to spend that kind of money, but my first 200 mile ride on the stock seat left me feeling like my nuts were in a vise!..... subsequent rides with the newly acquired "touring" seat were no better, so I bit the bullet and forked out the money for the Corbin, best (and most expensive) mod I've made yet, but totally worth it.

Lightweight, good gas milage and the engine is a TU Suzuki 250cc clone)

One thing that really appealed to about the Royal Enfield bikes over Harley-Davidson, which is my first love motorcycle, is the fact that the Royal Enfield bikes, in addition to them being much more user-friendly to new motorcyclists like myself, is that you're not breaking the bank when purchasing one with used Harley-Davidson motorcycles, you can easily be spending about $10,000 more than a brand new Royal Enfield bike

Alex, you mention the indicators. I don't mind round indicators because I'm ancient and when I was riding back in the seventies all bikes had indicators exactly like those, so that's what I expect. One thing that I have noticed specifically regarding the Interceptor 650 is that the indicators are round on the American version whereas elsewhere, certainly here in the UK but also in India, they are smaller and rectangular with rounded corners. Check out reviews by British RUclipsrs (or even Royal Enfield's Interceptor promo which you show in your own video) and see what you think. Maybe you can order some.

Apparently you can change the cam out and get another 10hp. Combo that with an A/M exhaust you might get 13 hp

    - I will recommend getting the 'Touring seats' for comfort during longer rides. Adding a hazard system is quite an easy diy search for 'Flash X'. Once you've completed the run-in and the warranty period, get a performance filter and a free flow exhaust (will reduce the overall weight) also change the engine oil from the company one. Ride safe. 🥂

I bought the exact same bike/ color as yours a month ago. I hope you like yours as much as I like mine. I too am 69 inches tall. I bought the GT single rider seat with the blue cowl off Ebay. I liked the looks but more importantly it seems to be about a 1/2 an inch lower than the stock interceptor seat. The lower height makes it easier for me to have my feet flat on a stop. Have fun and stay safe.

    • @iamalexsun

Thanks for sharing! I agree. Although the stock seat is sufficient, I do find it just a little bit too high. I plan on replacing the seat in the future with one from Corbin.

Great choice and a very good review. I bought mine 2 years ago and it’s a keeper. You can keep it as standard as it’s a great bike anyway and spend any upgrade money on fuel or you can modify it to suit your own personal tastes. I fall into the latter category and have upgraded the existing seat, fitted YSS front spring kit and rear G Series shocks (really does transform the ride and handling), DNA filter + air intake plate, booster plug unrestricted header pipes from Stratos Performance (U.K.) and Zard silencers (they sound epic!) + sump guard, stainless brake and clutch pedals and probably a few other small items. It’s all about enjoying the ride for me and with the lower weight and unrestricted engine it pulls strongly enough and handles sweetly. I really don’t need anymore from a motorcycle but ask me again in 12 months and I might have modified something else🤣

Hey, thanks for watching and the support! I'm about 5ft 8, the Int650 is a little tall for me. My heels are about a half inch off the ground with both foot down. I believe the GT650 is a little shorter. I would advice against getting the Grom, it's a fun little bike, just not the best for street use. Hope this helps!

You made a good choice. The RE interceptor will carry you right through to well after the learning phase. Its a great motorcycle.
You can mod it all you like as you get more experience.
It very detuned ( governed down) so the motor is bomb proof for as long as you keep clean oil in it at the correct level.
Many change the suspension and i dissagree with that mod. The original piggy back suspension is perfect and im a heavy big built man. At 120kg and even with a pillion i can comfortably do the ton on this bike.
The only mods i did was Hooligan cans, A booster plug to enrich the fuel air mix a bit and a K& N high flow air filter. That is all i intended ti do to it. I have a few way bigger bikes but this is great fun and the go to bike i enjoy to ride.
You can buy a brand new tank or head for this machine and so many other parts cheap on ebay.
Its cheaper to by a new tank already painted then get one fixed. Any way i love this bike.
Its a real TON UP bike so enough power to get you out of trouble and also into trouble.
You do not need more power then that on public roads.
This bike should see right through to retirement and beyond. The longer you keep the bike and know it thr better so why change after that?.

    Nice review.
You mention that you considered a Honda Rebel.
Honda Rebel 500 also would have been a good buy.
Honda Rebel has the advantage of a low seat of 680mm for shorter people (hence 30% sold to females in the USA) and easier to balance as a new rider.
For me, the Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor is the best buy for money, retro looks, flat bench seat, simplicity and therefore reliability. A great first bike that will suffice for all your motorbike days.

Just a heads up dude, it’s 10,000 kilometres and not miles. You will have to service it if it covers the aforesaid kilometres or you have completed 1 year, whichever is earlier. So, please make sure you have your Interceptor serviced accordingly! We need those plastic mud guards on top of the wheels more than you can imagine, and also wish that the back of the front mudguard was an inch more, so that it could have saved the engine from getting all dirty during the monsoon or when we tour. Love and respect from India. 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

Hi, I have the GT version, basically the same bike. The biggest con for me is the weight, even the GT (which lacks the heavy centre stand to be found on the INTerceptor) is around 200kg and that weight is fairly high, since the engine is fairly high off the ground. That makes the bike hard to right should you drop it (I dropped mine once, no damage other than an after market bar end mirror). I like the plastic, it's lighter than steel or Aluminum. I'm light and short so I needed to lower the saddle height further than the adjustment of the the shocks would allow and reduce the bikes weight (not too hard) but that's just me. Thanks for the interesting video, I think we chose the right bike.

    • @redtobertshateshandles

The frame is well designed but could be a bit lighter. Then the bike would cost more.
