Seriously though, gojira has totally master the art of soudning heavy without sounding heavy, and sounding chill while being heavy lol, that being said, it definetly sounds like gojira
Yeah, I don't see (or hear) how this is similar to Magma, but I do hear the resemblance to the lighter songs off of From Mars to Sirius. If this becomes a full album it might take top spot out of their discography tbh
I do feel that they will show more aggression in other songs once the album is released, but Joe did say he doesn’t JUST want to make heavy songs anymore, he wants to lean into the direction they did with Magma which I honestly love, but i agree the the vocals felt very washed out and faded if that makes sense, as you said it needs to be louder, more clear
Actually, after Magma, Joe said in some interview that they will be going back to more complex songs like on Mars and Flesh. Though I agree that this sounds like it could fit Magma. I'm not even mad. I love this song lol.
Nik Nocturnal a fun fact! Anyway, thank you for your hard work, Nick, you’re a big inspiration for me (and many other subs too). And it’s very cool, that you answer comments too, very glad to be able to communicate with you even a little bit! 🤘🏻
@@jasonlovesmusicreacting882 people are having a bad year, everyone finds bits of happiness that change their mindset from different things. If you want to be a pessimist because you don't like repetitiveness and people that are not OC and pioneers on every comment just keep it to yourself
I expect this album to be less aggressive. Been following what Joe wants to do, he needs to back off the screaming from 1999-2016, it's difficult now, but he can still yell like a beast. Bangers all around, but with age comes limitations, I think this album will still be their best album yet.
I love how he uploaded this after he uploaded his cover; edit: im aware he recorded this before his cover but uploaded the cover first, just before anyone tried to yell at me about it
I can't describe what's that thing that Gojira does to make me love them at first listen comparing to other bands, but I think it's that they do stuff that's so unique and you've never heard before, and if other try to do that it sucks. For example, I'm not a fan of synthesizers in Metal, but on this song and "A sight to behold" they use it the right way and just the right amount.
For me, it's the cyclic guitar riffs. It is so hypnotic that it really puts you in a different mindspace. Then you put the vocals alongside that and it's just transcending.
I can see where you are going with that. It's not as harsh sounding as some other super heavy Gojira tracks. I'm assuming they'll have a few chunky heavy-as-shit songs on this album and this is rolling out as a single.
It has a similar kind of structure for sure. Beautiful arrangement and production. Massive melodic hooks. Catchy riff movement. It just has that heavy groove but melds into almost a shoegaze type layering.
Joseph Bastidas Gojira’s been taking pages out of the Mastodon manual since Magma, and while it’s awesome, I don’t feel like it’s what I need in my life right now :/
I wish there was a bit more to it, i know they're purposefully trying to strip things back and simplify things, but i do pine for the earlier stuff. This entire song is basically two riffs. I don't hate it by any means, i just think they have lost their ferocity ever since magma.
Gojira have said that this standalone single is basically their own take on the story of the original planet of the apes, not exactly interstellar but close enough lol
I love Gojira but this song does sound a bit recycled with their other stuff. Much particularly, it sounds like a combo of Born in Winter and Gift of Guilt. I still dig it tho =)
Restraint That is the word I would use to describe the song. And it fits so well for the whole theme of this song. First I did miss the aggression too, but now, after multiple times hearing it, I understand the song and the intentions behind it a bit better. I think its great and it leaves me hoping for a great new album.
You should react to the guy that cover the song like even before many people saw the original, I think you know him, is that guy that won the shredders of metal season 2
The past few months I’ve been trying to imagine what their new music would sound like and this song is more than I could conjure. I fucking love how simple yet melodic and catchy it is. So fun to play on guitar too.
I actually love that the vocals are kinda just an ambient instrument in this track. I hear huge post metal and shoegaze influences, but without any compromise in the songwriting and then instrumentation choices. Really love it still.
Regardless of what someone thinks about the song, it's pretty amazing that they make someone recognize their style of riff right from the jump/in a matter of seconds.
It's like they're going into the more proggier side without abandoning the vocals or heaviness. Opeths latest album sounded like a proto-metal 60s/70s rock band. Not bad, but not what attracted me to them. And no, I haven't heard everything ever.
*I misses Gojira so damn much*
i misses gojira too lmao

Same same same, love it so much! Like many has said, it's like a mix between mid-gojira and magma, and it's beautiful. Gief album plz! GG!

Definitely progressively moving but totally just Gojira and the heart of the Band. I dig it. Awesome mixing.

definitely reminds me of the gift of guilt
For me it sounds like Oroborus but with Magma vocals, but it also has a Global Warming vibe too
Drexy bruh, gojira talked about Covid in the lyrics ‘the virus is spreading’ hmmm.
feels like Global warming, Magma, Low lands and Born in Winter mixed together. Cool song.

The end of this video is an obvious reference to the movie Planet of the Apes from 1968.

Okay, maybe 2020 is not a complete disaster now that Gojira is back :p
This sounds like a lost track on Mastodon's Crack the Skye album
That's what I was thinking too, very Mastodon-esque vocal patterns and melodies
Joseph Bastidas Gojira’s been taking pages out of the Mastodon manual since Magma, and while it’s awesome, I don’t feel like it’s what I need in my life right now :/
I read this as, this sounds like a lost track from the greatest album of all time.
