I totally agree that El Salvador no longer belongs on this list, and Argentina should not be on the list either. Milei isn't perfect, but his plan to bring inflation under control looks good, and he is doing some other sensible things.
And Russia should DEFINITELY NOT be on this list! What the heck is Briggs smoking??? Russia has risen to fourth biggest economy in PPP terms after China, US, and India according to IMF (which is unfriendly to Russia), it's public debt is enviously low, it is self sufficient in energy, unemployment is so low that employers are complaining (and no, this cannot be explained primarily by the increase in the size of the army), sanctions mainly hurt a relatively small slice of rich people who can't buy imported luxury brands anymore, and public morale is extremely high according to an independent western polling firm that the Kremlin regards as a foreign agent; also, Great Britain, which the US regards as a free country, has more people in prison than Russia for the exercise of free speech by an order of magnitude or more!
And who should have been on this list but was not? Definitely Communist China, and probably South Africa which has given up on keeping the lights on amid many other problems.

The Argentinian economy shrunk by 3.5% this year. Plus that government is authoritarian as that government is reducing consumer and environmental protections for the citizens and working to destroy the ability of its citizens to speak out against the government while at the same time seeking to serve international (western) capital in order to draw in this foreign capital. Yes it has improved its economic position but it is impoverishing its citizens. I don’t see structural changes that will grow a middle class.

Heck, almost the entire continent of Africa could make this list. There are a few African countries that are stable and have relative prosperity, but not many.
There is one trait that all countries on the verge of collapse share: corruption. It is a given that poor and unstable countries are permeated with corruption. The sad fact is if a nation's society accepts corruption as a norm, it defeats any real efforts at reform and perpetuates the general poverty.

Also in Africa they own what they have, no one lives in a fantasy of owning cars homes clothes. Those concepts don’t exist. It’s 54 countries with many many doing better than others. Like the US you won’t say Mississippi Alabama Kansas Wyoming Ohio Detroit Michigan etc are great states/cities that are great. They suck big time
So basically saying it’s relative. Here in Seychelles most of the westerners can’t even afford to come vacation here, if it wasn’t for google they wouldn’t even know where it’s at in Africa but then again it’s rates top 5 paradises in the world 😅
