CharlesBerthoud: New video - playing with two thumbs is more fun 😊
Cool profile pic.
@@REALwoombath You too! :)
I felt a great disturbance in The Funk. As if the E-string was tuned to Drop-D, and was funkily slapped. I fear something terribly funky has happened.

@@CharlesBerthoud try drop c!!!
I love that we have ppl like Charles out here, showing bass players (especially young ones) that bass is a complex and beautiful instrument and can be as solistic as any other instrument! Keep it up man!!
that cheeky little tap at 1:40 is my favorite. love your ear for composition, always so much fun
that slapping bass on Drop D is such funky disco-ish 80's vibe got me chills. Loved that tuning of drop tunings.
I don't play bass and I don't like funk...and I don't miss a single thing Charles throws on RUclips. Crazy talent
Every time you amaze me how good you are :D the riffs are just so good
I absolutely love your virtuosity, Charles. Education, practice and perseverance and experience really show and it’s quite inspiring. Thanks for sharing your talent!
I find a weird comfort in the faded paint below the fretboard on your LeFey, it’s like seeing a physical manifestation of your mastery and hours practicing.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I'm loving the little wiggle in his seat @ 1:43!!!! HAHAHA!!! It's like he's so happy with the slammin grooves filling the room his body does a little dance!! Its such a tiny nuanced little thing, I didn't notice it until the 5th go round!! That number will likely end up past 69 at least, and 690 wouldn't surprise me either. CHARLES!!!!!!!! Stop it man!!!!! You're gonna hurt someone!!!!!
But really, don't ever stop, that would cause irreparable harm across the world brother!!
The lows in this piece are disgustingly funky! Like 40 y.o. mouldy cheese in a hot and humid shed FUNKY!!!!!
CHARLES!! I just had a great idea. My friend was listening to that ridin dirty song and I realized how awesome it would be as one of the hardest songs covers. Please do this or at least consider it. Thanks.
Every time I put one of your video on, I have to double check that I'm definitely in 1x speed because your playing is unreal. Really amazing and awe inspiring as always!
one of your best pieces Charles, great music! well done
Man how can you keep coming up with such good compositions day after day? Incredible and inspirational stuff bud
I CANNOT HANDLE THE FUNK!!!!! LOVE THIS, FEEL IT IN MY SOUL🤯
Outstanding Charles! what an absolutely inspiring video!
Please do Men In Black theme song! 😉👍
dude... each week your playing is going up, but you have already an amazing lvl, best youtube bass player and more
1:02 that breakdown killed me
God this is beautiful
Your music is so inspirational I can't "bear to" miss any of it. 🐻🐻
Goddammit, Charles is somehow always surprisingly good on bass. No matter how good you think he is, he's will consistently surprise you with how good he actually is.
It's unsettling, tbh.
I hope you come to Sacramento, CA some time. Would definitely come see you play.
Charles, you’re amazing. A request, how about having a crack at a funk version of Jeff Berlin’s solo on Holdsworth’s Water on The Brain PT 2?
this reminds me of toconoma so much! Your second best song right after the synth pedal.
Beautiful work buddy 👏
Woah man you aware what you’re doing to us?! Kick ass! So much groove and i were dancing sitting down listening to it! Amazing
Hey Charles.!!
Killer as per.
Wondering if you've ever had periods where you've had to battle any kind of strain or injury and if not how do you stay fretboard fit ??
Special stretching etc ..??
This is insane! It sounds so funky I was making weird faces in amusement. You're incredible Charles!
i love the extra bottom end you get with drop D tuning
That’s so crazy ridiculous, you’re amazing!😳
I just got done taking a shower, and I still feel DIRTY after listening to this funk.
BRILLIANT!!
Thank you for not pulling a Marcus Veltri on us! We love you.
Hi, if you are reading this, have a blessed and funky day.
I have been playing guitar for 15 years, I think you have seduced me into purchasing a bass 😀
Give us more!! Amazing 👌👏
That grin at 1:17 then the magic at 1:38
Oh my god! This is soooo good👌🏼✌🏼
Wow, you're truly a virtuoso, so compelling,; watching you play is always an active experience
I like the Get Lucky part :D
1:03-1:33 had me involuntarily cat jamming.
take it to the next level.compose your own melodies.you are the best player.take the level higher.you got it.
so fluid
Wow. This is amazing and groovy. I like to do a Jamsession with you to support with my guitar. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
The world needs more bassists like you.. let's just say, the jokes about bassists in the metal world don't come from nothing lol
I think there needs to be an Epic BassFest in Nashville! Who's with me?
Cool AF! 🤘🏻
Ok...what...in the world is happening at 1:39 omg that is insane!
Trying to think of a bassist more badass than this.... No one comes to mind!
You can actually see the bass body has dent/scratch like victor wooten's bass. It means this guy slaps like a God
Freaking amazing
What if charles was in a band with only a singer, drummer and him as a bassist? No guitar, maybe backround orchestra or organ/piano, but im really thinking just the three piece band
did you get married? congrats! and the bass sounds amazing as always!
Drop D-licious. Would love to hear you do a funky TOOL cover!
Siiiick grooooove speechless
Fantastic job!👋👋👋🤘🤘🤘
instrumental muito bom... do brasil.
An that was screaming. great composition.
Respect 😎
what a shredder !
Wow! You rock, sir!
Me, a djentleman: " What is drop D ? Ukulele tuning ? "
This one felt particularly impressive
I don't even play bass and had to stop and go dayum
That pinky ring doesn't look like it's ever coming off.
So excited you decided to stay on our planet a while...
you know there will be textbooks about base that will feature you as a benchmark? for real
That is the siccest bassest alive PERIOD!!!
FUNKATROCIOUS!
The funk of this solo just gave me so much energy out of nowhere, what a great thing you’ve done here!
Agreed. There was something about this one that just made me want to smile. Don’t know how you do it but please keep on doing it.
what it gave you *energy*? maybe this could be a new source instead of solar and wind, someone playing bass to solve the world's current energy crisis
@@endoflevelboss Seems your comment match your profile name actually.

@@killuazoldyck886 🤓 umm..actually said Killua 🤓actually.. the velocity of the square over the velocity of the square actually
I feel like youre gonna run out of adverbs to describe the funkiness!
Gonna have to get a thesaurus soon 😬
@@CharlesBerthoud Your channel has really grown, Charles! Congrats, you absolutely deserve it.
@@CharlesBerthoud excruciatingly
I like that word
I'd say he's beginning to run out of adjectives when he starts whipping out Halo announcer quotes.
@@CharlesBerthoud stupendously
Love how you keep your playing as the centre piece of your channel without getting distracted like many others when they grow. Great playing as always 😊
Ooo, shots fired at the Italian navy. I like the cut of your jib, sirrah.
*cries in davie504*
amazing as always 🥰🥰👏👏
Boring as always.
I didn't expect to find another Brazilian here, very good :D
Do nada, matemático baixista kkkkkk gostei
Charles, I'm craving hearing you jam with a drummer who is on your level of musicianship. Your drum tracks are fine and all, and allow you to stay in the spotlight... but man... it would be amazing to see the chemistry of you and a similarly talented drummer.
penneyworth. I am curious if a particular drummer springs to mind for you. I immediately wished for Dennis Chambers.
@@joelsmith552 just a drummer that Charles enjoys playing with
Dylan Elise. He's i would think in the same age range, plays very funky stuff, uber talented. That'd be a great duo
Brian Martin?
I wanna jam with Charles 😭 I’ll load up my drums and drive wherever I have to.
Equally as amazing as your playing is your ability to crank out these incredible original licks week after week.
You're not fooling anyone, "McLeland"; you're clearly Leland Sklar in disguise, giving Charles his blessings.
NOBODY does it like this dude! Regular wholly original offerings and he just keeps getting better! Wish you the best of fortune!
I thought a heard a bit of daft punk though
Except Mohini Dey
I love your stuff man!
Thanks!
@@CharlesBerthoud Brilliant compositions.
After 10 years of playing guitar, I just got my first bass yesterday. You inspired me to give it ago. Love the vids
😁 now that’s what you called truly inspired!
Now its going to take time
But, once you start, you must keep going
After 10 years of playing the bass, Charles inspired me to give up.
I’m proud of you 😎👏🏻
@@CharlesBerthoud Thanks mate
The playing is amazing. I'm also really blown away by the composition and melodies. I think that is what continues to separate Charles from many other great technical players. I mean, these aren't just grooves. These are legitimate instrumental songs.
Ikr! Just slap (no pun intended) synth and maybe some guitar in there and I would listen to these jams on my free time.
@@m4ssee Sick burn, but honestly, I do listen to do in my free time. No need for guitar or synth, just bass.
Bravissimo sei l' ispirazione per i miei video ti voglio bene ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Funkaliciously groovy Charles, love listening/watching your content, and im ALWAYS waiting for the next one 🤘🏼😈🤘🏼
Amazing…love it…blown away… you’re like the Michael Hedges of Bass😲
That’s a great comparison, I can hear it too
That’s not funky…
THAT IS STRAIGHT UP PHONKY
I watch all of your videos, but this has to be the most amazing one I've seen yet. I study your play style and try to learn from everything you do, bit this one here I just want to sit back and relax to. It's perfect! You're so talented mate! Thank you for letting us enjoy your talent!
PS: you should challenge Les and see if he'll respond.. would be epic to see you two duo
That was probably the most musically intense thing that I have ever heard. You are like a monster, destroying the fretboard.
I'm not sure if funky is enough to describe this.
Am I the only one that thinks the amount of natural wear on Charle’s bass is beautiful?
Oh boy, here come all the "first" comments
And you were the "first" one
Haha I haven’t seen a “first” comment yet😂 true tho, definitely see a lot of those comments sometimes
its subtle, but u can actually see him getting better/improving his technique as he keeps writing more complex songs. this one gotta b one of the best personally
Great way to start out a beautiful Saturday morning. Thanks Sir Charles!
I mean, honestly you’re the best bassist out there today.
Yes, he is.
Cliff burton second
Thanks so much you have influenced me to get a basss and I love it thank you so much 👍
Glad I could inspire you!
@@CharlesBerthoud love you man , you got any bass recommendations for under 500 pounds ? Got a squire PJ jaguar
I always love it when Charles accompanies himself on the bass. At the same time. Insane playing both melody and harmonies like that at the same time!!!
woah! This is definitely one of my favorites so far. Keep up the good work!
I'm starting to think that the whole pourpose of this videos, is to prove that it doesn't matter the tunning, or the gear that you use, it's all about practice and feeling it
Wow drop D just sounds insane and I like how you play a 4 string bass💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿 loyalty
How the hell do you create so much incredible original content? You’re a creative machine with all the tools in your belt brother!!
You make it look so easy. Your ability to focus and nail it without tensing up in the faster parts and fluidity by which you execute is something to behold. In addition, you don't seem to really repeat licks and melody lines (you may) but if you do, it's masterfully inserted in such a way that it's not obvious.
I started out on bass guitar myself and feel my bass playing can be full of energy when I want to, much like yourself, but you've mastered some techniques that I still struggle with to this day. If I had the free time like I did in my 20's I probably would work on it more. As I stated I started on bass (at 20 y.o.) and played in a rockabilly band in St Louis Missouri when I was 22y.o. (back in 1992 - I'm 51 now). During that time I started playing bass and writing songs on the side.
After 2-3 years with them, I left the band and started my own band, playing guitar and fronting my 3 piece band.
I've tried the hammering techniques on bass and it is nothing akin to your execution of them which is so clean.
Plus, your presentation and video camera POV are well done also.
Kudos to you, your innate natural talent and obvious hard work and dedication which is what compels me to watch your videos. Well done sir.
Чудесная музыка! Чувак, я твои композиции слушаю в машине и на пробежках! Спасибо!)
One song I love the drop D slap bass in is Strange by Joe Satriani with Stu Hamm on bass (probably was a 5 string and not drop D, but whatever...)
Is it only me or is there more clarity, speed, sharpness, dynamics in Charles’s play and sound in every video?
