- My thoughts of the Sigma 18-250mm Macro HSM lens. Definitely a great budget walk around lens with very nice image quality at all focal lengths.

Thanks for the recommendation.
It's hard to find a good review that is straight forward. 📸
Thank you. That lens was a everyday lens for me and it continues to be one for my wife. Definitely got our money’s worth out of it. 👍
Hey thanks for reviewing this. I just picked up the lens today. I'm pretty new to all this so I was told that it would be a good all in one lens to go with my camera, I just had a 18-50 before and it was pretty basic quality so it's a big upgrade, I'm excited to see what pictures I can take.
It's a nice lens. It never leaves my wife SL1. The lens creep is the biggest problem with mine. Best of luck.
Great video!! Just picked it up today!
It is a really great all around lens. I let m wife use it not long after I purchased it and it is still mounted to her SL1. The image quality is great for this type of lens. Enjoy.
Great review Joe !
Kevin Delpy thank you!!
Thank you!
Great review. Cheers!
Thank you.
Nice (and honest) review :)
Thank you. I really like the lens. It is a bit contrasty but for the price I cannot complain. Its awesome for walking around.
agreed! just used this 1 lens on recent costa rica trip. worked perfect.
I've been pretty impressed with it. Especially for the price and it's zoom range.
Thanks buddy, Just passing and saw your vid. Been thinking about getting this lens. Need something better than my kit lens's (7D) 18-55 and 55-250. I purchased a Canon 24-105 L lens which I seem to be using more than the kit's. Sometime when I'm waning to use a wide angle, I'm just not getting it with the L lens, but, I think with this Sigma 18-250 I'm going to get the WIDE and TELE that I need, when needed. Cheers again and thanks, Kev
The 24-105 is a great lens. I love mine. However, you're correct. 24 is just not that wide on an APS-C camera. The image quality with the 18-250 is not nearly as good as the L, but for general use it's pretty good.
Thanks for your review Joe, I have a Canon EOS 200D (Rebel) and am looking at getting a zoom lens for it. I was leaning towards a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM but then I heard about this one from Sigma. It sounds like you've got both so would like to know which you recommend. I'm primarily getting it to use the zoom, would you say that the zoom quality on the Canon is better? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul.
The Sigma is a super all around lens. It can just live on your camera. I purchased the 18-300mm Sigma and it is as nice if not nicer than the 18-250mm. So if you go the Sigma way the newer model is a good choice. the Canon 55-250mm has ever so slightly better image quality in my opinion. However, the convenience of the full zoom range in one lens is just fantastic. My wife now uses the 18-250mm on her 100D and it never leaves the camera. I'm always impressed by the quality of her images (I'm trying to get her to upgrade to the 200D). I hope this helps. Thank you!
I use this lens on my Pentax cameras it will autofocus on my Pentax K50& K70 but not on my older *istDL which my Tamron 's have no problem with autofocus. Mine does not do good on shots into the sun as I get halos and flares . It does work fairly well in low light as I get useable pictures hand held , have gotten good protraits with the lens . Sharp pictures on the telephoto end. Is a good travel lens and suits my needs
I've had this lens for a while for my Canon 650D, recently sold the 650D for an 90D.
Gotta say, the Sigma is a great performer, especially for 4K Video 👍
I definitely have a lot of love for Sigma lenses. In my opinion they are the top third party lens maker.
@Sergei Anatolyvich I have the 90D, how do you like the lens for your camera?
@@RichieColemanSr It's a good all round performer, walkabout lens. Stop it down 2 stops for sweet spot performance.
@@SergeGolikov Thanks for the feedback, it's greatly appreciated.
I just bought a 55-250 stm for a stellar price. And today came across this lens at a stellar price as well. Could you see any reason to get this lens if one already owns a 55-250 stm? I'm not ultra concerned about the 18, already having a kit lens, but if the macro abilities are noteworthy and if it has features that work well like the zoom lock and stabilization I might pick it up.
The Canon STM is actually a really good lens. The key to the 18-250 is that it is 18-250. The do it all lens. One lens to rule them all for travel and hiking. If you have the 18-55 and the 55-250 and don't mind changing them out there really is no need to get the 18-250. The convenience is the only reason I chose to go superzoom.
Hi joe, I am wondering if this would be ideal in low light conditions as I do concert photography? I have the Canon 55-300mm but I’ve never brought it with me to a gig, just used it for wildlife shots. Thank you and have a good day!
It’s not a great low light lens. You would be Breyer off with a 70-200mm f2.8 for low light work. The lens will work in low light but it’s not going to be optimal you’ll have to crank your ISO.
Hi it was a good review 👍
Thank you.
Great review, how is the image quality compared to your canon 55-250mm is the sigma as sharp as the canon?
The sharpness is on par with the 55-250mm canon. It’s definitely a great lens.
Great review! Can this lens be mounted on e-mount (say sony a6500)?
It looks like they only make it for the A mount SLR bodies.
So it does work with full frame canon cameras? I thought only with APC. What camera did you shoot it on? I'm planning to take the 6D Mark II and internet tells me that this lens that I have will not work with it.
It’s only for apsc bodies. 👍
Great video.
Would you recommend this lens for a Canon 90D as an all in one, or would you recommend another lens?
If you can find it at a good price it’s definitely a great all around lens. The newer 18-300mm sigma is also a great choice and can be had around the same price 👍
@@NoProJoe Thanks for responding much appreciated.
@@RichieColemanSr anytime 👍 best of luck 🤞
Thank you for the review on this. Do you know if this lens will work with Canon M50 with the M to Ef adapter on?
It will work on the M with the adapter but how well it will I'm not sure. Some lenses work flawlessly others not so much. Thank you for the comment.
@@NoProJoe Hi.. thanks for your review. It really nice Joe.
About Canon mirrorless, I actually use M5 and this Sigma Lens recently by using Adapter. I agree with Joe's review. This all-round lens images result is Cool as cool as you use canon affordable tele lens with cheaper price and wider range of focal length plus Macro features! Can u get those all feaatures on Canon at the same price? NO. But Sigma Can.
Hi Joe, after seeing this video I got myself a Sigma lens for my Canon EOS 200D (Rebel) and am very happy with it. One question though, today I tried to shoot some video with it but couldn't get it to work, have had problems shooting video with yours? I thought maybe there are some settings I need to change on my camera.
It wouldn't start recording when in movie mode? I've not encountered that problem. What specifically did it do or not do? Thats strange.
Thanks for getting back to me Joe, I discovered that it was the camera and not the lens but after trying a couple of things have now got it working so all is well.
I have to choose between Tamron 16-300/F3.5-6.3 Di-II VC PZD and SIGMA 18-250 mm f3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS. I wish sharpness and quality, I put the lens on a Nikon D7200 camera for nature landscapes travelling hiking. which one do you think is best ?
which one did you buy
Hi love your video. Thx for review. I'm going to buy a sigma zoom lens but confused b/w sigma 18-200 ii dc os Hsm MICRO or sigma 18-250 DC OS HSM MICRO LENS
Can you please tell which is best suited for me and Which one is more sharpe. I have concerned about picture quality and color
I haven't used the 18-200mm so I can't speak to that one. I have used the 18-250mm and the 18-300mm. Both are great all around lenses. My biggest problem with the 18-250 is lens creep. It will slide open if not locked which can be a pain. The 18-300mm I did not have that problem. The 18-250mm gives good rendition, contrast and color. The 18-300mm tends to be cooler and more contrasty. The image quality on both are better than I expected on a super zoom lens. You always take a slight IQ hit with super zoom lenses. However, the usefulness of the lens in all situations makes up for it.
Has anyone tried it with the A to E adapter and had issues?
Hello there, i have a question: can i put this lens ( sigma18 250) on the canon m50 mark ii? And what i need for combine that. Thanks
You can using an M too EF adapter.
Excellent review ! So I have about 1k to spend and that’s for lens , camera and accessories. I recently found a rebel t7 kit with a 18-55 , 75-300. Kit runs 599.99
I do a lot of macro photography , and found this lens on sale
For 250.99. Was also thinking of getting the canon 50 mm since everyone says it’s a must. I’m new to using cameras as I’ve been using a 12 pro max with lens attachments and an original canon eos. Would you recommend spending the 1k on those items? Or would you recommend other ?
If I were purchasing a DSLR kit I probably wouldn't purchase the T7 body kit with the two lenses. The 18-55 is a pretty good lens but the 75-300 is not spectacular choice. The T7 is a fine enough body but lacks option for growth in photography/videography. I would look for a used Canon 80D or T8i body and purchase a used Sigma 18-250 or 18-300 for general all around photography. The 50 is a good addition for portraits and more creative projects. Facebook Marketplace is a pretty good place to find reasonably priced used gear. Ebay can also be a good outlet for used equipment. The features you get on an 80D are vast compared to the t7. Even a used T7i is a better choice. That is just my opinion. I would lean toward a more prosumer body that has auto options and deep professional style controls I could learn with. I hope this helps. Thank you.
@@NoProJoe thank you so much for the info! Any reliable websites to get used cameras ? I kinda wanted to buy new but a lot of people have said used is the way to go. I just don’t wanna get a camera that’s used / beat up or a lens that’s scratched up. If that makes sense. What do you think lens wise for a macro lens? Would love some options on that front as well. I have a camera right now it’s a can eos xt , from like 2006, it’s got a 18-55 and 75-300 , I just think they need to be cleaned . They were pretty dirty from the last owner .
@@turtleman4743 buying used alway comes with some risk but in my experience the reward is much greater than the risk. I often buy from private owners on Facebook Marketplace, EBay, and refurbished right from Canon. I’m not the biggest macro photographer but Canon has a 60mm macro which seems to be well reviewed. Buying new is great but often comes at a premium and your money doesn’t go as far.
@@NoProJoe thanks for this I was looking at a t8i to upgrade my t5 rebel camera and was planning on getting this lens & the 50mm ones I wanna get into concert photography
@@nicolebowland the 50 is always a good choice. The Sigma is an excellent all around lens but you may find it challenging in dark situations to get a high enough shutter speed to freeze action. If you use high iso and DXO pure raw you should be fine.
Lol back again. So I went and looked at canons refurbished shop and they were out of the 80D. But I did find the eos 90D with an 18-135 and a 55-250 . It’s 1520 dollars , but since I have a canon already there giving me a loyalty discount which will bring it down to a little under 300. Would that be a good pick up?
The 90D is very nice dslr. The price is reasonable for that body and 2 lenses. You’re basically getting the 55-250 free. You definitely won’t grow out of it any time soon.
I found one at a pawn shop and guy wants 200. Looks a bit used, needs outside cleaning. I originally thought the lens creeping was the zoom ring being broken, so I didn't think much of it. The focus ring is a bit rough, takes a bit to move it, the autofocus is working when using the optical viewfinder, but doesnt work with the digital viewfinder, is that normal? Have a D5200 atm i picked up cheap and have the 2 kit lenses 18-55/70-300mm. Should i get this as a replacement for the 2? or better to use the money on prime lenses.
Just think the shop problaly took a $50 pledge. i would save up and get get a a fresh on, Black Friday coming up
I have this for my Canon EOS 60. Primarily shoot dog action. What is one step up from this lens?
For image quality the Canon 70-200mm is a good option for zoom the Sigma. 150-600 allows you to reach way out.
Does this lens have "full time manual focus" to turn the focus ring at any time in af to manual focus?
No it does not. You have to put it into manual focus.
Thank you
Thanks for this review. Have you tried mounting this with your eos m2 with the adapter?
Yes it works well. It works better on my M100.
NoPro Joe what is the minimum focus distance when doing macro shots and what is the ratio? Thanks
Its abut 14 inches with a 1:2.9 ration. Not great but pretty good considering.
NoPro Joe thank you for you quick response and helpful information, keep your videos coming.
Hi! Nice review! Does the lens mount on the sony a6000? Thanks!
I’m pretty sure they only make it for A Mount Sony 👍
@@NoProJoe oh ok, thanks!
I use in on my sony with the sigma mc11 adapter. Great for photos, not so great for video.
Does this lens work with the Nikon d3500 ?
They make a Nikon version. I’ve only used the canon version. amzn.to/3GpZuY9
What is better
Sigma DC 18-250mm 1:3,5-6,3 Macro HSM or
Canon 18-55mm STM IS and 55-250mm IS II?
Thats a tough one. I really like the 55-250mm Canon. However, the convenience of an all in one with a slight ding to image quality is great. My wife now uses the Sigma on here camera and it never comes off the camera. She has taken some beautiful photos with it. So I'd say I'd go for the Sigma for the overall usefulness of the lens. It's not a razor sharp lens but it gets the job done for general all around shooting.
@@NoProJoe Thanks for the fast answer. There is someone selling the Sigma for 65€. I already have the two Canon lenses and was thinking in selling then so I don't have so many (3 Canon and 3 m42) amd get money. I love too the quality from the 55-250mm Canon, I tried the Tamron 70-300m but did not like it because no IS.
Now:
Is the quality noticeable?
Is the IS as good as the Canon?
Does it make much noise compare to the STM?
Etc.
Does this work with a Canon EOS rebel T2i
Yes it will work fine.
How will the quality be when shooting at night?
It is definitely not a low light lens. The aperture is too slow. It would be fine with a flash.
Is it compatible with Canon 70D?
Definitely. Its an APS-C only lens. I like it more and more every time I use it.
Does this do good with concert photography?
The aperture is limiting light gathering but with high iso it should do fine.
where did you get that lens for that price
Beach Camera was running a special. Right place at the right time on Amazon. Opteka has a deal right now for 349.00 www.amazon.com/Stabilizer-Replacement-Batteries-Protectors-Microfiber/dp/B00NVLDR1O/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1533430075&sr=8-20&keywords=sigma+18-250
joe i want to know which 3 camera lenses should i buy my father have over 30 cameras and like 60 lenses i don't need all those lenses i only want like 3 or 4 lenses and just 2 camera bodies so help me out
Thats a tough question. What do you like to shoot? Do you need low light capabilities? Do you shoot portraits, landscape, wildlife?
@@NoProJoe i don't shoot wildlife but i do shoot landscapes and sometimes sports but i love taking portraits and full body shots of my friends and family that's all I'm a hobbyist and not a photographer but i love taking pictures. I need a lens that's great in low light cause i like taking pictures at any given time of the day. I want your opinions on these lenses i saw on RUclips
1. Tamron 10-24
2. Canon 18-135
3. Canon 50mm
4. Tamron 35mm
5. Sigma 17-50
6. Sigma 18-250
7. Tamron 18-400
That's just to name a few that's doesn't mean I'm going to buy all of them just maybe 3 or 4 but i love a wide angle lens to get everybody into the picture ya see
@@chiefbubba2581 For low light two good and reasonable lenses are the Canon 50mm 1.8 and the Sigma 17-50 2.8. Both are pretty fast lenses and better for low light. The Sigma 150-600 is a very telephoto lens to get up close for sporting and wildlife. Definitely not a low light lens. The Sigma 18-300 is a good all around travel lens.
@@NoProJoe portraits and family and landscapes
@@cnottagejr So the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8, and the canon 50mm f1.8 would probably be good choices for you.
Would this lense be nice for a beginer getting into night photography?
Great for a beginning photographer. Not so great for night photography. A wider aperture is best for low light shooting. Perhaps a 50mm 1.8, 24mm 2.8, or even the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8
@@NoProJoe Thanks a lot for the reply, just to be clear I don't want to shoot stars or anything just like shops and streets etc
Thanks a lot!
@@danb7601 If your shooting Nikon the 35mm 1.8 will let in a good amount of light and you'll have a wider field of view over a 50mm. Sounds good for street photography . Wider id better for buildings and landscapes.

how many lens do you have in total
I have a RF 24-105 f4, RF 35 f1.8, RF 14 f2.8, EF 50 f1.8, and an EF 150-600. I mostly use the 24-105. It covers 80% of my needs. The 150-600 has a 7D mounted on it and its for wildlife and sports, the 14 is for wide landscape and real estate photos, the 35 and 50 are for environmental portraits.
do you recommend this lens for the price of $385?
Depending on where you are located I’ve seen them from $175-$350. If you shop around a bit you can find them responsibly priced.
is it FIT WITH Canon D750
Yes it is designed for APS-C cameras.
Nice video. How was the autofocus noise, okay?
It's noisy for video use. It is also not very smooth like an STM lens. It has frequent micro adjustments. Thank you for commenting.
Thanks, I had happened to already purchased the Canon EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM Lens which I think will do me well for video. Mostly using this with the Canon SL2 with my drone (Mavic Pro) for a good video presentation combo (air & ground).
Good call. The Sigma is a good inexpensive photography lens. It definitely falls short as a video lens. With dual pixel autofocus(DPAF) STM lenses are the best choice. I use the 24mm, 50mm, 10-18mm, 18-55mm, and the 55-250mm for video. I must say the kit lens while a being a dark lens it does well for video. It even held focus well on my old T5i which didn't even have DPAF. How is the SL2? It looks like a great inexpensive camera. It appears to blow away models like the T6 or T5 for a few dollars more.
So far I like it. Wish it had 4K since that is what I use when I shoot with my drone. Some kid wanted to pet the fuzzy gray thing on top of the camera (my mic), so cute. Auto focus was a little slow one time at the ice rink but that was probably a little my fault. I hadn't had much time to play with it hence the time I have to take with the drone side rules and regulation. FAA has been always on the move with the time.
What is its aperture?
bYPexX 3.5 to 6.3
which camera body do you have this lens on

Oh dear, that creep looks so bad. I was looking at this lens for a tabletop lens, good for macro and also able to zoom out for wider, product shots, but my tripod faces straight down.
Hey who you calling a creep! LOL just kidding. On my copy the creep is more of a fall completely out. However, the lens is quite nice. In my opinion way better than the Tamron. The image quality is very good throughout the range.
@@NoProJoe Thanks for replying! I ended up going with the Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 Contemporary DC Macro OS HSM Lens for Nikon for now. I'll test it out and get a feel for it, if it doesn't work for my needs, then maybe I can swap it for this one. They sound so similar though!

My Pentax fit one of these failed after two years and Sigma chose not to honour the three year warranty.
That is not good. Thank you for the information.
Thank you. I was told that dirty water had entered the manual focusing ring. I'm not convinced about this as I really look after my stuff. I use my two WR Pentax lenses in wet conditions, not this one. But, hey ho.
