Ian Hunter is rock historian. He’s your favorite band’s favorite front man. A living fucking legend. Can’t wait for my autographed copy of Defiance part 1. A living legend. A true original. My idol.
What a great tribute from a great artist in his own right. Ian Hunter obviously hasn't forgotten how much Mott the Hoople owe to David Bowie. Nice one Ian. 👍🏼
I heard Ian play this great song, this weekend at the Stone Pony. I knew within the first 30 seconds I loved it. Didn't realize it was about Bowie until this morning. LONG LIVE IAN HUNTER!!!
Bowie wrote their biggest hit All The Young Dudes. This is the loveliest tribute and thank you to The Main Man Bowie. I wish there were more and WHERE IS THE BOWIE TRIBUTE AT WEMBLEY???? COME ON PEOPLE!!!
Lordy, Mr Hunter, this is some tribute, coming from a talent like you. You were rather the dandy yourself in the 70s and a terrific - and I mean TERRIFIC - songwriter yourself.
First saw Mott the Hoople in 1976 when I read about them in Circus Magazine. I ordered the first album from the import section at Tower Records in Campbell California. I was a big Ziggy Stardust fan so it was only natural that Mott would catch my musical interests.
It's been over 2 years. It's still strange to see all these shots of David that I saw all the time when he was very much alive. It feels strange to look at them from the different perspective, that he has died. Seeing him over and over again on u-tube and on Bowie sites, I feel there is still some denial within me. It's like not much has changed, I can't look to see if any tours are planned, but it's been that way a long time. So there he is, doing interviews, performing in concerts (God I love his 50th birthday concerts!), in movies, my albums and cd's, the pictures on my wall.....I'm not concentrating on the fact that he's died. But every so often it hits me and it hurts.
i heard about it by chance on, i believe, planet rock, heard it once and never again until i searched for it a day or so ago on youtube after listening to an interview with ian hunter.
"Who Let The Genie out of the Lamp? And Little Lord Fauntleroy who let him out of his Amp? Saturday night and Sunday Morning Well Trevors getting Boulder And Woody wants to hit things"
Ian is a master songwriter. It's the Lou Reed school of just saying what you mean to say, simply, beautifully void of subtext. Of course, DB could never do that...the message always had to be wrapped in his brilliant and incandescent prose. Not the first tribute to David that Ian has written; Boy, from Ian's first solo record in 1975, is also about Bowie. Lou Reed and Ian were both pretty vocal at the time about DB's relationship with manager and Mainman head Tony DeFries after their own experiences with Mainman. My favorite image from this collage is later-David flipping off the paparazzi on the down low. There will truly never be another like him.
By just existing, Bowie saved thousands, maybe millions of teenagers from self-harm and death by their own hand. And when that was done, he gave these survivors a voice . . .
Hats off to Ian Hunter!
nobody except mister hunter could do such tribute , great !
Ian, I’ve always been a fan of yours (oh God these wires are tight) Bowie fan since 69 this song is absolutely perfect for Mr Jones
