    Nothing like the sound of a Gretsch. Wish I still had my 1965 Country Gentleman with Chet’s name all over it in gold. Don’t remember the model but it had the dual mutes. cool guitar

    I bought the alligator as wanted a resonator and only play to entertain myself. No virtuoso. A friend who’s played a national says it’s as good. Bought the Jim Dandy as it’s same size but quieter for playing in flat. So impressed by them both, seriously considering a New Yorker. Thanks for uploading and sharing your lovely guitars.

    Nice, Matt! This is one of those behind the scenes videos a guy like me always wanted to see, but was afraid to ask. Gretsch guitars are an on-going curiosity with all the variations in pickups and hardware, even often in same year model runs, as well as tweaks & mods owners seem to make. This is a treat to see the comparison and demo of yours. Best wishes, John

    I've had a few Gretschs in the past. (Brian Setzer 6120 SSLVO, 6120 Keith Scott model, Sliver Jet, Duo Jet, Square Bo Diddley model, 6120 Chet Atkins model and a couple Electromatic 5420 models). I just picked up the 6120 Eddie Cochran model with the P90 pickup in the neck and Dynasonic pickup in the bridge position. Luvin this one the most. The P90 in the neck position is great for jazzy chords and sounds killer with an overdriven amp. Your Gretschs sound sweet finger picked Travis/Chet style.

    Matt, thanks for sharing some of your Gresch collection. My 6120 (1962) is my favorite one. I don't think there are any better guitars for the Chet style. And, Windy and Warm great tune.

    I've been on a bit of a Grestch kick lately. Lol I just picked up a 2004 G5125. Really enjoying it. Mine is all black. I thought it would be kool to find someone to do a red sparkle on the front. I really enjoyed your finger pickin good on you. Wish I could puck like that. Lol

    Hi Matt, would you mind telling me the neck width of your Gretsch guitars? Which is your favorite chet-like guitar, and what is the neck width? I'm thinking of buying one, but am concerned the neck will be too narrow (I have big hands, I need a wide neck). Anyhow, if you reply, thank you very much . . .

    Matt nice demos I enjoyed that. I've been struggling to be comfortable on my 6122-59, my right arm specifically. I haven't really used a strap like you are doing, I might try that. The sound is more refined to my ears as well. I've got a 5420 which I love (put TV Jones pickups in). BUT, the 6122-59 is more inspirational. I did like the Dynasonics in your Electromatic. Anyways, thanks for this. Chuck

      Thanks Chuck, yes, getting the 6122 up a bit with strap really helps - I would do it with the others as well, but didn't have their straps handy. Thanks for watching as always!

    Hi Matt, as a fan of the Compton bridge on a Gretsch, how do you find the intonation? I have a G6118T with a 'rocker' bridge, which has no compensation at all, and the tuning idiosyncrasies can be maddening. I tried a tune-o-matic with roller saddles, but the low E and A kept coming off the rollers. So, I'm looking at getting a Compton bridge with its compensating ridge. He also makes a 'Special' design with enhanced compensation from the 'lightning' shaped saddle ridge; have you tried one of those?

    • @mattvache50
      @mattvache50  6 месяцев назад

      @@Kevin-the-Just hi, thanks for your comment, I’ve been super happy with both my Compton bridges and have not noticed any discernible intonation problems

  • @kempini

    Good to see your guitars Matt. I also recently got a 5129 off EBay, my first experience of a Gretsch! It’s an early 2005 model with the larger f holes and B7 bigsby and has had a Wayne 'pops' Compton aluminium custom intonated fixed bar bridge installed by previous owner. The tuning seems a little hit and miss though, how is yours and can you recommend any tips to improve this. Maybe I could email you about it?

    • @mattvache50
      @mattvache50  3 года назад

      Hi, sounds similar to mine - is it a KS serial number? Mine has a Compton bridge too, I recently used Big Bends Nut Sauce lubricant on the nut and bridge which has helped the tuning.

    • @kempini
      @kempini 3 года назад

      Thanks for the reply, mine is a KP serial number which I think is the Peerless factory. I fitted a biggsfix to the bigsby which lessens the break angle which and that has helped a lot. I will try a lubricant on the nut. Do you like your Electromatc ? I’m considering upgrading it maybe in the future, but it’s fun to play.
