    This time we travel to Morocco. With Engel and Ricardo, we climbed Mount Toubkal. With its 4,167mt, is the highest peak in North Africa. From the top, we experienced amazing views of the Atlas mountains. The documentary tells how the 2-day trek was organized and how difficult is to get to the top. Everyone can do it, but need to be prepared for a trek that is technically easy, but challenging from a physical standpoint. All started in the village of Imlil, at 1,750mt. The first day was easy, it took 6 hours, including long stop for lunch and filming,to reach the base camp at 3,200mt. We got there just in time before it started raining. The day after we woke up at 4am to start acending. It was a strenuous walk uphill, with a cold wind blowing and the sun coming out as we were approaching the top. After having enjoyed the view from the peak, we started descending. We took a de-tour to nearby mount Tibherine (3,880mt) to see the debris of a plane that crashed here in 1969. Apparently it was a cargo plane that was bringing ammunition to the Government of Biafra during the Nigerian civil war. As we descend to the valley, we got a small injury which forced one of us to finish the last few miles on a mule

    AMAZING! I am not a Trekkie nor Mountaineer a walk around local parks is more like me. Reason I arrived here is because of the terrible earthquake (the epicenter Atlas mountains) yesterday 08 September 2023. I wanted to visit the area via RUclips. Interesting and I salute your fortitude. My condolences to those affected by the quake. From Texas 👋👋

      @@baileydawson3316 Sorry, just noticed your comment now. Next time use the @ so I can see it! :)
      It was me and my girlfriend only. We just asked around in Imlil, many people were offering the Toubkal climb. We agreed in a total of 1700 MAD for a guide, lunch, dinner, one night in the refuge, breakfast, climb to the summit and back, and an other lunch during the way down. The guide provided crampons for the snow. No mules or horses, no porters, we carried our own backpack - we left our main staff in the hotel in Imlil, so we brought up only what was needed on the mountain. We liked our young guide Mustafa, he helped us a lot on the summit climb, taking care of our steps in the tricky parts. We gave him 200 MAD as a tip when we arrived back.
      Did you go? How was it? Could you climb it? My girlfriend skipped the summit, I was lucky enough to see the sunrise at 4000m, it was unbelievable!

I have been interested in the Atlas Mountains because of a recent finding that the mountain range may be the carcass of a very large dragon. Although it sounds crazy, I reccomend looking at the mountain range from satellite view. With the western side being its mouth, and stretching to the east with it's long tail. Is there anything you guys saw in the rocks that was different or interesting?

      The snow melt from the south and east side forms in to a natural river flowing south all the way to Agadir on the west coast. Most likly the fresh water forms part of the drinking water for the people of Agadir. That is all I know. Its plainly visible on terrain maps of reasonable quality.

      The road to the refugee is long but straight forward with water along the way, but you need a guide by regulation. There are checkpoints along the way checking the passports. Imlil is full of guesthouses. Prices around $30 with breakfast. Nowadays you need a guide to climb on Mt Toubkal. They are checkpoints in the valley. The cost is approx. EUR 260 per one person with one guide but it goes down to EUR 150 if you join a group. This usually include the guide, the night in the refugee and all meals. We used a company called Atlas Trek Shop (you can Google them), we were really happy with the service

Your guide will be able to tell you. The reality is that the weather could be quite unpredictable and you will have a view only a week in advance on how it looks like. Anyway, pack winter clothes

    I’m 16 and have never climbed any mountain, but I plan on climbing the Toubkal when I’m older. Any tips or suggestions?

      This is a good way to start as the trek is not too difficult. Just go there with a guide. You will enjoy!

    Can anyone translate the meaning of the name 'Toubkal'. Or parts of the name. There seems as yet no translation on the internet. Thank You.

    How to get an honest guide for the hike?

    • @GuglielmoBiason
      @GuglielmoBiason  2 года назад

      Try www.atlastrekshop.com; they have been very honest and reasonable with us (good price and very flexible with some last minute changes). The guide who they assigned us was very good, a proper mountaineer
