When I was a child, I've learned a HACK. During the first preparation phase, I used to SWAP the weapon side when I have just one. During the SWAP, the game first connects a new one, then disconnects the old one. But if you press PLAY before the game disconnects the old one, your spaceship go into battle with the 2 Weapons and you can use or sell then in the next preparation phase.
OMG I finally found it!, I always had this memory popping up in my head that it was a space shooter with a boss what i thought was shaped like a star but i was wrong!, It was shaped like an X!, And now it's fully clear: Stargunner was the game i played when i was a kid!
2019, Brasil - This game has an error in the store, you buy a weapon and put it on the top of the ship and then buy another weapon and put it in the bottom, then you press the "SWAP" to change the position and then the "UNDO" to undo the purchase, then you get the weapons and do not spend credits.
I remember playing the demo of a PC Gamer disc. A classic. At least it has Gog representation and is somewhat known, compared to Terrafire (Indeed, the entire Thrust genre is long dead and buried. And Terrfire was the best of class, imo.)
I’m pretty sure there was the shareware version of this included on the duke nukem 3d cd, used to play it to death 😆 and terminal velocity, and rise of the triad as well all included. Man the good old days 😂
Funny the true last boss of the Zillion decided "why don't we make something similar to that pesky Stargunner shooting our buttsides down and see if we win a duplicate battle?!" well NOPE, that was a failure lol! XD
They may should have rendered the sprites without antialiasing, cause without alpha blending the edges of the sprites look like crap in front of a bright background. Otherwise very solid shmup.
How did you get your ship to move as fast as it does? I tried with both mouse cursor and keyboard, and it moves so goddamn slow it's practically impossible to avoid anything; despite the game running at 60fps. From what I remember, the movement speed was NOT supposed to be as slow as it's moving. I tried both the one on steam, the one on gog, and the one in the 3d realms anthology and I get the same issue with all 3 games.
Game runs properly at normal speed so maybe it's not cycle issue. You could try to use set cycles. Go to for example GOG install folder and edit the config file there with notepad. Change the "cycle" value to 20000. You did notice you get engine power from store? Not sure if those two things are not the cause.

Dang, I used to play this with my brothers and we only made it past like 3 bosses. That little melody you hear when you beat them is amazing though.

Uh, something strange happened to voice samples, like "power" or "extra credits"
You can select male / female voice. Default male voice was selected for the last episode.
Oh those games, where they just have to destroy the whole planet after you win =)
