    Having only heard the usual first ten seconds of your intro music on regular videos, I wasn't quite expecting it to go quite so freestyle jazz when played in full. And yet somehow the trumpet wandering off somewhere random in the middle is extremely apt.

    13:32 I don't think I've ever felt more seen. "Hyper-vigilance" has become my ultimate blocker in life. I ruminate and worry constantly, and seeing this so perfectly worded out is almost a weight off my shoulders.

      This is great, but I have to agree. If this had been structured from the beginning to be maybe, 15-20 min chunks, that would've made digesting the content nice and smooth. Especially if the chunks were segmented into specific topics. Even if some were multple-parters. I, for one, could definitely speak to feeling particularly good, when smaller videos like that kind of have a beginning, and a bit of a wrap-up. You know how it goes. You get that little bit of satisfaction when video comes to a satisfying "end" (even if part of a multi-part subject of videos).
      I mean absolutely NO disrespect. This was fantastic! Great work as always,
      and I really appreciate you both for putting this together!

    I wish I was here live! I was actually in an online session with a new therapist, and today I realized she has little to no experience with ADHD and I feel like that's the underlying cause of all my mental health struggles. I haven't gotten to the hospital to ask about ADHD even though I've been trying to remind myself for over a year! So I did Better Help because I could do it at any time, I didn't have to go during specific hours like the hospital. The new therapist I'm trying out said "you don't look very hyper so I don't know if you have it, I'll have to read about it" and I was just so shocked! She has a ton of experience as a therapist but like none in adhd. It feels like all my anxiety is about how I struggle to complete plans, and all my depression stems from me feeling like I'll never be able to accomplish what I want. I know I'm capable, I just need to find people who can support me and understand that issue. It's just so hard trying to build that support when you're lost in the tornado of undirected thoughts, I hope I get through it and have support one day.

      Ugh, that is absolutely awful. Sorry you had to experience that. Stuff like this gets my blood boiling and they are in no way qualified to treat it. And crazy how frigging judgmental and clueless some professionals are. As if ADHD was just being hyper (or forgetful, which some don't even know can be and usually is a thing). I think that person sadly couldn't even begin to understand any stuff Dr. Barkley, for example, talks about in his presentations and seems to have an extremely narrow and outdated view of ADHD :( Hope you find someone else and keep at it! :D x-x

    Within the first ten minutes, I felt validated on so many levels! I’m 40 & was diagnosed with ADHD TWICE in childhood but that was it- no medication or any other form of help. I have been drowning off and on in life and KNOW that what I’m feeling is depression or suicidal, it’s anxiety and a lifetime of untreated ADHD until my mid 20s, when I was in a head above water state, that has contributed greatly to my anxiety. Still, I find myself trying to convince people who know me, including a parent with almost identical adhd behaviors to believe it’s not depression! It takes insane amounts of willpower to trust yourself and believe what you feel even when family, friends, and doctors question things. I have only responded on RUclips 2-3 times, if that, but I have gained a lot from both of you and I just want you both to know I felt seen before the 12 minute mark and I thank your.

    39:40 “Many people with ADHD have the trauma of a thousand paper cuts”…❤️‍🩹 felt that. My daughter (10 years old) comes across as very resistant but she struggles with requiring frequent prompting or correction and feels like she’s “always being yelled at” even if it’s gentle redirection.

      My therapist has been telling me about rejection sensitivity dysphoria. And I was like, oh yeah, I definitely have that. Just thought I was a sensitive kid. It took me a long time for me to develop a" thicker skin" when it came to teasing from friends and family. God forbid I ever made my parents angry with me, I would feel horrible and devastated if I disappointed someone I looked up to.

      @@scottlukacovic4600 oh damn this is a thing?? I’d cry over any sort of authority figure when I was in trouble as a kid, even if I wasn’t being yelled at I’d immediately break down. I always just thought I was a sensitive kid too.

    Living with ADHD often brings along anxiety and stress, and I certainly experienced a lot of both. It was tough-these feelings eventually led to some serious stomach issues. I went through a bunch of tests, but it took a while for doctors to figure things out. In the end, they prescribed me some medication for heartburn and acid indigestion. Thankfully, I found an extraordinarily understanding psychiatrist who helped me get on the proper medications for my anxiety and ADHD. It’s made a world of difference! I'm feeling much better now. I love your RUclips channel. It helps a lot. 🥰💞 Thank you so much 😊

    Dr. Sharon Saline is so good! She and you are the two people I have found who produce the most useful, informative, honest, and hopeful content. She has done some great videos on living as a couple when one or both of you are neurodivergent.

    Thank you and Dr. Saline for this video with such valuable information. Love that you both were writing notes during the video! I like the ideas of a self-care list, walking, and music. Walking is very helpful for me. I also like Grow with Jo exercise videos here on RUclips. Mariane Cresp has a video named self-care/break list that has some nice ideas. I also like Diane in Denmark idea of having a self-care basket. Yes, would love another video!

    Thank you for this information. I wish I had all of this information when I was an elementary "disability" teacher 20+ yrs ago. So much information is available now that wasn't then. Odd occurrence is that at 66 years, I have recently been diagnosed with ADD. I've used a lot of the information I learned from a fellow teacher who had worked with "disabled" children for 35 yrs. But your program has helped me and some of my nephews and nieces to learn better coping mechanisms. I'm using the term "disabled" to refer to all disabilities. I do not mean it as a derogatory term. From a fellow divergent, thank you.

    ADHD life really not easy especially underdeveloped country like Pakistan where people don't approach to psychiatrist and don't share psychological issues with anyone and fight alone.

    This was super helpful...I caught most of the live stream and loved it! Thank you for this! I was wondering if you'd be open to inviting anexpert to talk about ADHD and addictions such as drinking and binge-eating...because we're likely to seek dopamine in all the wrong places. I actually just quit drinking and have been exploring new ways to keep myself happy and engaged in productive things. Also, threw away my cannabis edibles and quit facebook! Still struggling with food though and thinking it's ADHD related!

      Vyvanse for ADHD also has a secondary benefit of helping with binge eating.

      @@cjwardillFound out today that my insurance will cover it for binge eating - but not for my ADHD until I fail (stop due to side effects/poor results) Ritalin or Adderall.
      I’m almost 60. I tried those (medically and otherwise) >30 Years ago. If they worked I would have asked for them.

    I learned that anxiety is more or less the survival fight-flight-or-freeze response gone out of control due to preconditioned thoughts and experiences from childhood mostly. For me, mindfulness helps to ease that response a lot. Workbooks like 30 Days to Reduce Anxiety by Harper Daniels have helped me, as well as learning boundaries in therapy and making journaling a habit, even if I write one sentence. It's so important to retrain the brain the let go of thoughts and let oneself know "I'm save and ok."

    Love your channel and the effort you put in to keeping things accurate but engaging! One way to reduce the daunting nature of a 1.5 hr video might be to provide timestamped hyperlinks in the description of the video with short captions describing the focus of that 5-10 segment (I know bit more work for you). Unsurprisingly, I’ll end up watching the whole video after picking a segment lol

    Helpful! I always wondered why I relate to Jess' content so much even though I don't have ADHD. Well, I do have a lot of anxiety 😅 I didn't even realize how much until I was diagnosed with OCPD as an adult.
    OCPD is a condition of excessive self-control. In a sense, it's the opposite of ADHD impulsivity. Yet it puts you in a similar position, out-of-sync with most other people's sense of risk/reward, having to choose between explaining yourself or just going out alone.
    When I was diagnosed with OCPD, the psychiatrist joked that the P stands for Perfectionism. So it was interesting to hear perfectionism brought up in a significant way in an ADHD video. But it makes sense that anyone with anxiety is going to experience some pressure to be perfect, even if it's just to blend in.

    My anxiety seems fixated around media -- movies, TV, video games -- and it's frustrating that if it was spiders, people would get it, but because it's the thing most people take for granted as fun and relaxing I wasted a lot of time trying to justify my anxiety via bulls***t analysis of the media itself, which convinces extractly no one. I'm still dealing with a lifetime of "oh, she just doesn't like things" messages.

      I graduated recently, this past may, but it was so poorly planned on my part that I didn't get a party celebrating it, and only a handful of people were able to come, and took off immediately after because they had "other stuff to do that day" because of how short notice it was. I wanted to plan a graduation party fir myself but everyone is like "why? You graduated several months ago...why bother now"

    I feel like if I talked about my time management where I live (Indiana). Every employer wouldn't give you a chance or try to understand. Maybe cause is type of work we have in Rual parts of country. Laber, factory's, farming. I have gotten fired for being one minute late to work. It hurts a bit.

    The theory that I believe in is that anxiety is genetic: 25% of the population has the "anxiety" gene, 25%don't, and the remaining 50% of people has the mixed gene- which is a combination of both.

    I'm not sure I buy that anxiety doesn't have a genetic component. I'd like to see research on that. There's absolutely a learned element (watching your care givers with anxiety and how they handle their struggles), but it seems odd to me that there wouldn't be a genetic component to the brain structures and chemical production in the brain that lead to anxiousness.

      I used it as body doubling. Jessica was busy interviewing and so I got busy doing the dishes and later in the day doing meal prep and eating lunch.
