  • In this video I show you the easiest way to catch live bait for beach and inshore fishing, namely croaker and pinfish. I caught a few croaker in this video but I caught a few dozen before I started filming. You can catch absolutely anything from pinfish to trout and sheepshead! Live croaker are a fantastic bait (arguably the best bait) for big gator trout and huge flounder and bait stores often charge as much as $1 per croaker so this is a huge potential money saver! This technique is also so easy absolutely anyone can do it. If you often fish with your kid feel free to have the man the bait road; it’ll keep them busy and keep bait in your bucket!
These guys can be fished live or cut but I prefer live bait almost always if you’re fishing on the bottom because it can help thwart bait thieves like pinfish and crabs.
If you’d like me to do a video on how I made this high-low/dropper rig, please leave that in the comments below. Thank you for watching and please remember to make time for fishing!

a minnow trap should also work for you. I fish with live croakers for large speckled trout. the asians will float live croakers off a popping cork 6-8 feet down for monsters.

How big of a rod do you use for catching these guys?

I typically use a 6'6 or 7' medium light rod but the main concern is having something sensitive enough to feel the little bites. Thanks for watching!

What fish are you going to target using the baitfish you are catching? Sharks, redfish?

You can use them for pretty much anything from trout, flounder and redfish to smaller sharks. People swear by croaker for big gator trout and big flounder

@@MakeTimeForFishing Live or as cut bait for trout and flounder? I catch the same fish you are catching ( not real sure what you are catching are small croaker) off my dock regularly and I’ve found that redfish prefer cut mullet or pinfish over those particular fish. Tried using as cut bait, because they are so abundant, just don’t seem to be first choice by aforementioned species. Thanks for your great videos. I fish Charleston area regularly, so they are very relevant for me. I enjoy seeing you fish different waters from Folly to Coburg to Wappo to IOC behind Sullivan’s and near Breech Inlet as well as Shem Creek.

Live for trout and I think they work better live in general in my opinion. But I agree I prefer to use mullet when I can get them but not everyone has a cast net. And thanks I appreciate it!
