In 16:40 Ashaya protects Brandon creatures from Cyclone Summoner (they are Forests). Regardless of that play the next 2 spells that gave two extra turn has lead to Evacuation.
16:13 Small error: according to the rulings on deflecting swat, you can't change the number of targets, so Mindbreak still has to target multiple spells.
@@louismunger8360 when you cast a spell the number of targets gets locked in. Swat doesn't change the number of targets, just what those targets are pointed to.
@@louismunger8360 See rule 115.3: The same target can't be chosen multiple times for any one instance of the word "target" on a spell or ability. There was a valid line there. He could have changed the targets from Rapid Hybridization and Miscast to Miscast and Mental Misstep. Yeah one of them is his own spell, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
As someone that's been azami pilot for nearly a decade, I'm happy to see her stand up to the table. My list has moved on from the turns and to more control, but after watching this, I might be swayed back lol. Good game guys!
SPOILERS This game was nuts. Seeing Niv-Mizzet AND Azami hit the table multiple times and the crazy back-and-forth counter wars between the two decks was extremely satisfying. It ultimately came down to who had the most staying power, and remarkably, Azami ended up winning out over it. I'm very interested in making and Azami deck for non-cEDH gameplay, but I may end up just using John's list anyway lol what a fun game to watch!
I have a high powered Azami list. The main difference from competitive lists is that I run a bunch of fun - and sometimes surprisingly good - low MV Wizards. Would recommend :)
Big props to Zack for bringing Niv out so much lately. Love to see my favorite cEDH commander represented so often. I think I'm the only one still playing him in my local meta, so it's cool to see others piloting their lists.
What an amazing game. Watching Azami and Niv battle it out on the stack was fantastic. And - hate to be that guy but - this pod really shows the *personalities* of each commander, instead of just being two partner commanders and all the best cards in those colours. Small rules thing: I think D-Swat can't change the number of targets of the original spell (which in this case wouldn't have mattered much, as the second target could've been the Swat itself). Worth keeping in mind.
Agreed, also weirdly timed interaction. Played more like a control deck than a turbo deck, as turbo that only wants to answer game-ending threats or protect itself.
Niv/Azami is my second pet EDH deck. I swap between configurations of both every couple of months, and I'm happy to see BOTH played here. It's rare to see more wizards than elves at a table.
Was a really fun game to watch. Best part was not hearing "didn't pay the one, didn't pay the two, and didn't pay the four." For the entire game. Rhystic, Mystic, and Smothering are great cards, but watching people feed them in games is so frustrating to see. This game was a refreshing change from the ubiquity.
I'm assuming that John had an even number of cards left in his library. Otherwise with Azami and Teferi's Ageless Insight, he could have decked himself out. Unless he used Library of Ling to make it so that he was drawing a single new card each time.
Holy maccaroni xD sometimes i question if you focus the player specifically in these "Is XYZ still viable" episodes. Baral almost drew no cards due to Johns counters always being countered, Azami seemed to be kill on sight. Congrats that John still won. Hard fought victory and well earned
Kinda crazy how many counterspells and removal was used on Azami. They had 0 respect for Inalla, a deck that could just win at any point… I think Inalla should have kept tainted pact in opening hand, Aether Channeler plus dockside is a win that is difficult to counter
Maybe someone has already mentioned this, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe you have priority to respond to your own death trigger from Pact of Negation. So I don't think you can cast dark ritual on top of it to save your life. But please, if I'm wrong, let me know.
As much as I love cEDH, seeing Azami at all just makes me cringe. It does one thing, whether that is at casual or cEDH tables and is just so... boring. Was the deck very interactive? Yes, but that doesn't make it a cEDH deck I wanted seated across from me. I'm still of the mindset that Thoracle needs a ban because just like Flash, it just lowers the diversity of wincons in the format, but, to each their own.
How to play cEDH: Step 1: Pick a color/color combination Step 2: Find all easy combos for that color/colors Step 3: Put 20 counterspells in your deck Step 4: Counter everything until someone magically combos out.
This is so interesting. So first: do you realise that's completely subjective, or do you think that's some objective truth you're laying down? Second: what are you trying to achieve with your comment? Do you think those of us who love this format are going to change our mind because of your absolutely hollow statement? Then, third: what are you doing here in the first place? Go spend time with things you actually enjoy. Your life will be better for it, mate. All the best ❤
@FNXMagic-gy2oo well let's answer those questions you have. 1st It takes too long already for 1 person to take a turn. So let's multiply that x4 so you get a turn once every 20 min. That's the truth. 2nd no one loves commander, it's too expensive to play. No one wants to watch the guy with the 10,000$ deck combo off on turn 1 for 15 min. 3rd the video was in my recommendations. Can't do the things I enjoy because I'm stuck at work for 12 hours.

Yeah wouldn't of helped Brandon but yeah
Did he just sac his jeweled lotus to keep him from getting one treasure 😂
Always deny the goblin
It's a bold strategy Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for him.
Sick move.
Sometimes that is the right play. One mana can be a big difference in cEDH.
Lol that needed to get called out by the narration
Oh god, no partners in a cEDH table, what year is it? What a fantastic match. Congrats to everyone.
Super cringe comment
The amount of conterspells in this game was insane. Poor Brandom having to face 3 blue players :D
16:13 Small error: according to the rulings on deflecting swat, you can't change the number of targets, so Mindbreak still has to target multiple spells.
But mind break says any number of spell so any could be only one right?
@@louismunger8360 when you cast a spell the number of targets gets locked in. Swat doesn't change the number of targets, just what those targets are pointed to.
But you can point all the target on the same spell

It was hilarious ngl

@@jatterjite absolutely friend, thank *you* for the inspiration! Hope to see more Azami on the channel in the future!
I will absolutely be brining her back someday! 👍

Representation matters bro
The amount of interaction in this game was maddening, and then when the Timetwister reset it all.....I wanted to rip out my hair lmao! Great game.
Always enjoy your consistent high quality production! Your team is the best
Much appreciated!
Jesus fucking christ I was seething over the insane amount of counters John had, well deserved win
I wasn’t sure which of my favorite wizard tribal decks to root for 😂 glad to see one of them win!
Azami was one of my favorites for a long time, but since i tried nymris, there is no need for me to go back to azami^^ awesome video as always.
Love how much interaction Marwyn is drawing. Respect the queen
That game was epic. So much hate thrown at Azami, but for good reason it seems. Love to see an all mono commanders CEDH game.
Inalla and Niv are multicolored though? Unless you’re saying you’d like to see an all mono game, where in that case I agree
@@TAYDEN_BACCAMI think they're referring to the lack of partner commanders
This might be the best game I have ever watched on your channel in terms of gameplay and interaction and that’s saying a lot.

I loved seeing an off meta pod. Great stuff!
That Inalla needs more tutor cards for Spellseeker haha 😅

As an Azami player, my heart was so hurt seeing my girl bounced and killed 🤣
I stopped counting mana spent on Axami, but I think it was 42
Crazy game, that was awesome!
This has to be in the top 10 of games on this channel. Holy shit D:
What a fucking game!!! Azami is always a pet deck of mine, I always love seeing it pop off. I miss Pengine Azami so much
Jeeeeesus Zack was on johns ASS this whole game. I've never seen a izami get absolutely dunked on like Zack did to that poor wizard lol.
Wow, what a game that was. I like Johns deck. Very nice

Yikes, reminds me why Blue gets hate on. That being said, love seeing the Step Through Wizardcycle. Love doing that myself!!
That was an exceptional blue mage piloting.
Good old MOM lab man win, love the flavour

The entire pod was precovid 😄
Is Frodo and Sam a cedh deck, I want to build one but I don’t know where to start
Never thought I would hear A zombie this much
7:14 this is illegal, a counterspell cannot be redirected to itself
"He attacks Zeb with his bird" should be a t-shirt.
LETS FUCKING GO AZAMIIIIII so glad zack didn't win lmao

…why the fetchlands in mono-coloured decks??
Incredible game today
Great job on the video
Thanks!
Holy shit another Zeb!!!!!???? We need to be friends haha
Brandon missed the memo and didn't bring a wizard to the party... 😢
Niv does not trigger on the invasion cast btw
Welcome to magic without white
azami is the best!
That's a lot of counterspells
Huh, first time seeing another Zeb. Crazy. Thought I had a unique name.
Ashaya is on the board at 16:37, so shouldn't Brandon's creatures been counted as lands?
Yes. Unfortunately, no one caught it. Magic is hard!
It's okay the Evacuation makes it irrelevant!
How was the winner of the pillow fight chosen? a group decision?

It was labman over thassa I'm cool with that
Why counter mystic remora?
I mean... it produces a lot of card draw.
