A few notes: There's no way to mod Mario Kart Tour & Live Home Circuit as I also don't view them to be "main-line" Mario Kart Titles. Also, I wasn't going to include Mario Kart Arcade, but Atlas recently made the first custom track in 2023 and I thought that'll be cool to showcase!

believe it, double dash custom tracks didn't exist for a very long time. certain games didn't have big enough communities to get that done, MK64 didn't have any CT's aside from starlight for years as well. super circuit took just about as much time to get custom tracks too.

A. modding/custom tracks weren’t really a thing until the Wii, maybe DS era. (At least not conventional or easily accessible.) There probably were stuff for Super Mario Kart, but since that’s a flat plane the stuff you could do was limited, so it probably didn’t catch as much attention.
B. If you WERE making custom tracks for any Mario Kart game it was almost definitely for Wii for one reason or another.

The first SNES custom track... I remember I was curious as a kid if the track was on the cardridge... so I messed around with it, like not fully plugging it into the console or while running a really tiny amount of water being in the cardridge. Funny enough, the color palette of a Ghost Valley track was like in the custom track but it still represented the original track.
