Nothing backs up the dollar. Bitcoin is finite, and so will only ever have a certain number of coins. Ifs backed by those who verify the ledger through "mining", i.e sharing custody of the network. It also allows other products that earn dividends be built on top of it. Crypto currency is information technology, much like the internet. It allows transactions and data to be sent and stored instantly for virtually no cost.
