Have absolutely loved Esther and Abi since 1963, playing their songs here and I still remember most of the words, so sad to hear of Abi's passing recently.
Thank you, Esther (and Abi ז״ל ) for bringing the 'perfume de primptemps' to my ears as a little boy in the sixties and seventies in Holland. Thank you for your wonderful role in 'Ghetto' from Sobol which i saw on German television in the eighties and taped on video. But, alas, i lost the tape during the more than 10 times i moved house in Amsterdam. People need to know the lyrics and meaning of the song 'Rakefet' to appreciate the song more, so i looked it up.
Reminiscence: Childhood, Holy Land, long before they gave most of the land to Philistines, Jordan and Egypt, this song is symbolic of Israel's new birth. Sadly now the Rakefet is lost and gone forever. Israel once was magical and this song was part of that magic.
I am German and listened as a small child with my grandmother to this lovely song. When I grew older, I tried to write down the Hebrew words (at least the sounds of them!) and sang the song to my guitar. I was only eleven years old then! I just love the voice of Esther Ofarim and the Hebrew language!

This song was a part of my childhood, but I never heard Esther sing it til I was 13. And Esther's version quickly became my favorite!
She also translated the song into English 4 years later called "The Daylight is Dawning"
@@zurapDOR that's right.

CYCLAMEN
Under the rock grows like a wonder
A very cute Cyclamen
The shining sun kisses it
And crowns her with a pink crown
Cyclamen, the bird whistles
Look at me for a minute
Beautiful Cyclamen hiding under the rock
Hiding from every thing
Bat sheva went out for a walk
The morning was bright
She collected every flower and plant
Her mouth full with a song
Bat sheva gets off the rock
A beautiful Cyclamen on her chest
A bird whistles the wind fondles
A this song comes to an end.

Originally it is a yiddish song: "Im Wäldel beim Taichel..."
