"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.
Many people ask me where I am from and where I film my projects. I am from Northern Ontario, Canada, and live in an area where off-grinding is easy because I have lots of land to build on and experiment with different buildings and materials. Everything I do is to try to be more self reliant, and to depend less on others. But that doesn't mean I don't like working together with other people on projects. Knowing people who have skills is part of being self reliant, and trading skills is a great way to get more things done!

Yellow is a common carrot color. Orange carrots got their color from selective breeding them in the Netherlands in the 17th century in honor of the Dutch House of Orange. Carrots can be found in red and purple as well. Great video 👏

It's great to see Rachel in videos. She did a fine job! I would like to see more of your gardening plots throughout the year. I feel like that is a big part of self-reliance that really anyone can do. And more of your new cats, because the internet loves cats.
Nurses are good at interviewing. We interview patients every day about their past medical history, etc. etc. Rachel, you need to write him a script or something for next time so he can actually interview you! Good job though, it was really fun to see you both actually enjoying the property :-)
Make "Cider" with the apples🍎 & pears🍐. . . Maybe even consider making a bee🐝 hive project experiment somewhere deep in the bush to assist the pollination process then you can make "Mead"

I loved this one. I was among those thinking Rachel kicked you out to the cabin. lol I'm glad that isn't the case. It's awesome knowing she is such a big part of the channel, even if only behind the scenes. Hope to see more of her though. It's cool to see it as a family thing.
To be honest it's nice to see you both and it's nice to have a chilled out video where you're both mooching about and it's nice to see Rachel too she's obviously the brains behind the whole operation.
The first mushroom clusters on the big log may be honey mushrooms. A spore print will help identify, as well as more local knowledge.

At 70 years old,and don’t even ask where all those years went, I find I watch videos of people I feel that I would love to spend the day with. I enjoy watching you but I think the way your mind works would tire me out quick, fast and in a hurry. My mind is on Louisiana time and moves from place to place much slower! Watching you with your delightful Rachel I think your stock went up a thousand fold. I can totally see myself sitting by that pond with coffee and a book, soaking up the smells, sounds and company all around me. Just waiting for that call to say “ RitaLouise come on over”! 😉
Holy moly! This was a fantastic video! Rachel, as an introvert I understand your resistance against being on camera... But you are still bringing a lot of positive energy every time we see you. And I liked to learn new things about garden veggies. Some of those things don't grow here in Norway but my mission will now be to get myself ever-growing strawberrys. And Rachel, I hope these comments gives you some extra courage as we hope to see you again in more videos.

Great job on the fishing young lady. I've been with you guys since the beginning. I had to retire in May of 2020 due to the big sick and shutdowns because I have a severe lung condition. Thanks for being so awesome and sharing these times with everybody. When I start receiving my disability I would love some merch.

If I am being honest, at one point I did think that Kev had been evicted from the family home and was taking refuge at the off grid.... I didn't comment (i don't think I did...) but it really did cross my mind! Good to see the family is still strong, you have a lovely family Kevin and a really great piece of off grid property, not to mention the talent to make the structures that you have! Rachel, you are great on camera, don't be shy, be yourself.

Rachel seems like she knows allot about plants and gardening. It would be cool to see some segments about how and what to grow for newbies, like me, that are trying to become a bit more self-reliant.
Some people would love the drilling hammering and sawing or even helping you with a p[roject. You could do a viewer contest to come spend a few days helping you do projects and enjoying the outdoors.

Rachel you need to be in more videos, like seeing you and the interaction between you two.
Throw a latch on the lid of the nest box, and then also a shelf to set the egg carton (maybe slightly angled so the egg carton can't fall off). Should be a fairly minor improvement to add
